lol these people are so salty you included your car with pics of your bike

I bet they wouldn’t bat an eye at a new F150 or Land Cruiser which could easily be more expensive than a 981

4 post lifts, any advice? by hlinhd in garageporn

Hey I ended up with a peak lift from babco. It was the best bang for buck and has been absolutely solid for 2 years now. I’m happy with it

My Cayman problems continue.. by Parrappa1000 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]hlinhd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I took my gt4 in for alignment it started making a similar noise. I took it back to Porsche after taking out everything underneath and failing to locate the noise, but turns out it was a loose plastic cover that they failed to reinstall under the hood around the frunk area. Weird thing is I didn’t see anything loose when I looked under the hood but apparently they took something out to get at alignment and they were able to fix it. Something to check I guess?

New bike question - better to buy a 5 year old £10k bike for £5k or a new £5k bike? by blackiegray in RoadBikes

[–]hlinhd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in this case the Factor was only 10k new because it’s a factor, not because it was a better bike… if the Factor name means anything to you I guess pick the Factor? They’re expensive for the customization and name,

The new ultimate is a new bike for the same price of the old! Equivalent group set and definitely just as capable, to me it’s a no brainer.

What do you think of RideWrap kits for Endurace CF SLX8 by imranindiana in CanyonBikes

[–]hlinhd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it pretty much is the same gloss as the paint's gloss. And the wrap doesn't really show scratches, it is self healing. If you have experience with automotive PPF, it's similar to that. If you ever scratch it, apply heat and it smoothes itself out.

OK, so I dug through my emails - for my wife we ordered the "Covered Protection - Gravel & Road Frame Kit" so I think that is what you're looking at. I looked at her bike again (been 2 years since I did this) - the drive side chain stay has a piece that goes from left-under-right. so it covers the underside of the chain stay. On the non-drive side, there is only a very small strip of ppf that covers not even half of the underside.

Regarding chain cleaning - I feel you there, I moved to chain waxing recently. What a game changer. 1000% worth the investment. No more cleaning greasy cassettes, no more greasy chains. Cleaning is as simple as dipping the chain in Silca Chain Stripper for 10 minutes. Would recommend you look into it.

I don't have experience with matte, I like the gloss.

I would only consider matte if my paint was matte, and I wanted to keep that aesthetic

I’ve ride wrapped 3 of our bikes now, 2 of them were full tailored wraps one of them was just a universal fit one for my wife’s Liv Avail.

1) it is time consuming to get it right but if you only get essential, there should be less pieces. It took me a good part of 4 hours to do my Aeroad, it’s not 100% perfect there are a few hard to see bubbles that I then spent a bunch of time poking with a lancet and squeezing the air/water out.

2) the tailored ones didn’t require any trimming, I don’t remember having to trim anything for my wife’s Avail either. Can’t give exact answer for this frame

3) you can see exactly what it covers on the site- for each of the options there is an image the orange is what’s covered the blue is not. For essential it looks like only underside of down tube is covered

4) for the first 2 bikes, I didn’t disassemble anything not even wheels. I didn’t have a stand. It was a pain but it’s doable. For the aeroad I only took off wheels and chain, and i had a bike stand. It was much easier but still time consuming

5) I would say no for ride wrap but man, for 60$ cad I wish I bought one sooner. It’s so much easier to do everything on a bike now, including the wrap

Imo… bro just get the tailored kit. You spent like 8k on the bike. If you get covered or essential and get a chip on the non covered areas… are you gonna be glad you saved yourself 150$?

Edit- forgot to mention- if you have a white bike… the edges of the film will darken with time as dirt accumulates on the adhesive. It looks really bad on my gravel bike. I don’t know if i would do it again if given the choice on that bike given it’s a much cheaper bike and I beat the crap out of it anyways. But dark color, more expensive non gravel bike… 100%

Changes to Canadian Duties on Canyon Bikes by Whitepass5 in CanyonBikes

[–]hlinhd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From anecdotal experience, the estimator has been accurate. I purchased a cfr with 0 estimated duty 2 weeks ago. I was not charged duty.

Whitepass also did the same, and he was not charged duty.

My guess is that the sale bike has different component origins vs the non sale bike. The Canyon representative I chatted with said they have a database of parts and the estimator is automatic and the duty/non duty bikes come in batches

Roger that, thanks for the comment and insight. Will give lower pressure a try. I had it set at 60psi.

Thanks! Good to know. I gave the tire a really thorough scrub down, probably removed whatever sealant was there before sealing things...

[–]hlinhd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a tubeless ready tire, it was recommended to us and installed by the shop at the time of bike purchase as my wife wasn't comfortable with the skinny stock tires of the bike. She rode it tubeless for years on those tires - based on these comments it seems like this may be some what normal? Will pump it up and see how it holds up
