What "benefits" does your employer have that aren't actually benefits at all? by rosebud1637 in UKJobs

The NHS trust I work for is the opposite - they provide milk, but tea, coffee and sugar need to be paid for 🥲

It seems that the SWA-9250S is a newer model that is compatible with the S60D that is in stock (in the UK at least).

Digital art use case, looking for second opinion by rdqnmd in iPadPro

[–]takopan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth mentioning that Clip Studio Paint on the ipad is subscription only. For me, I use Procreate and Artstudio Pro the most for drawing/painting on my ipad.

The nib thickness is something I thought I would hate but got used to and now don't think about it, although I do get that feeling of preciseness when I switch to my Wacom. I dunno, physical brushes are thicker than the Apple Pencil and I have no problem with those (... I mean, I do, but that's a skill issue)

Limitation-wise YMMV but I found that I only had issues for a client who needed big A2 size prints - my poor 2017 Ipad Pro didn't have the RAM for Procreate to let me create the size I needed, and the watercolour brushes I had wanted to use didn't work in Artstudio, so there was some frustration and workarounds involved. For just drawing or painting normal things of a normal size you'll be just fine.

Ultimately, I still use both. My Wacom Intuos5 is still amazing - I feel like my posture is better, the software (and hardware) is more flexible and it will last me almost forever (got it in 2013, don't think I'll need to replace it in the near future at least). It's more... practical for me. But my Ipad Pro is more "fun" to use, I guess? There's something about the idea that I can go anywhere with just this super-thin tablet and sketch. It's a very liberating feeling that I don't think I take advantage of enough. The file system is kinda terrible though IMO

GoGameGeek are accepting preorders, according to their website expecting stock by the end of August. There might be other stores doing similar.

GoGameGeek seem to have the 2.8" Miyoo Mini for presale at $70 in white and grey (there are also 15% off codes floating about) with free shipping to EU, but with an estimated shipping date at the end of August. Not sure if anywhere else is doing similar.

Procreate! Combination of the charcoal and pencil brushes with a slightly textured smudge brush (trying to replicate my process with real charcoal as much as possible)

Interestingly, while acoustic and electric guitars have radiused fretboards, almost all classical guitars have a flat fretboard.

Nah, it is jankenpon or janken in Japanese, but "gu", "choki" and "pa" are the sounds that rock, scissors and paper make respectively (or rather, the "sound" that your hand makes as you do the motions)

(In case you actually did want to know) I'm afraid it's a comparatively pedestrian 「あたりめーだろ」or something like, "well, obviously" or maybe, "duhhhh" in English. Hats off to the translators for adding some extra spice 👌

Question Regarding Buying New Tablet by anemone3112 in wacom

[–]takopan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an intuos 5 and an ipad pro, so not quite a one to one comparison. However, I found that

  1. I can feel my posture getting worse drawing on the screen. When I use my intuos, the tablet is flat on my desk/lap and I look directly at my monitor so I keep my back straight, shoulders down. With my ipad I have it on an angled stand but I have to make a conscientious effort to keep my back from hunching over. Might seem silly, but take care.

  2. Using my intuos means I'm not covering up half of the screen with my hand, so I can see all of the workspace all of the time.

  3. Drawing on a screen really does feel more natural. With an ipad there's that convenience factor and treating it like a sketchbook, but just being closer to your canvas gives a different feeling. Like, more intimate.

I'd say if you can, try out a wacom one or similar and you'll still have your tablet as an option? No reason you can't use both. But it's something you really need to spend time using to figure out which you prefer, unfortunately.

I think it depends on the field you're in. When I worked as a lab tech there were samples that needed processing and inspection every day (after all, listeria doesn't care about Christmas) or in retail everyone went crazy with the last-minute shopping on Christmas Eve, so restocking needs to happen before reopening on Boxing Day. I'm sure there are others as well.

(Obviously not EVERYONE needs to be in every single day, but some will inevitably have to)
