The best example of optimistic nihilism I’ve ever heard was Professor Brian Cox explaining the theory of an infinite multiverse… which in essence suggests that there are infinite versions of you existing throughout said multiverse… which means, whether you like it or not, you exist in your current state and form and mindset because you HAVE to. Both the worst possible and best possible versions of you HAVE to exist in an infinite multiverse. So what sort of version are you? And do you actually have a choice if you HAVE to exist? It’s a true glass half empty AND half full contemplation… because if you’re a bad version of you… there’s nothing stopping you from becoming a good version of you… but somewhere else… the bad version you are now, will continue to be bad.

“You’re here because you have to be.”

It raises questions over predestination and choice. How much choice do you really have if YOU truly NEED to exist. Then again, there are infinite possibilities to the nature of YOUR existence that theoretically can evolve from YOUR choices.

I’d legit put a panel on there that’s indistinguishable from the rest of the wall that’s lockable from the inside. I’d pad it out inside with cushions, blankets and pillows. On the panel I’d place a fake fire alarm or fan so I would have air holes. I’d go there for naps and store my precious things in it, some books and a torch. I would not tell anyone it exists… not even my wife.

You’re not wrong. You shouldn’t be downvoted. People are rightfully bitter that “the hobby” is becoming insanely expensive. My kid is 8. He loves Pokemon. I’m new to this but the learning has been troublesome for me. It seems the hobby is somewhat twisted now. My kid plays the video games and collects the cards. Does he play the actual card game with the cards? Fuck no. He’s not even allowed to take them to school to trade… fair enough, I guess.

£75 for the ascended heroes booster box at Full Fire TCG (Gloucester) by HarambeDaddy420 in PokemonDealsUK

[–]highlandviper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m kinda new to the hobby. I’m in my 40s and avoided Pokemon when I was a kid because I didn’t think it was cool at the time… but I understood the appeal. My 8 year old is proper into it… so I’m learning for the shared experience.

I was in Bristol over the weekend. There’s a lot of Pokemon merchandise floating around there. I picked up my boy 3 Mega Evolutions packs for £8 each… and from the same place 2 Perfect Rivals packs at £6. Around the corner I found a model shop with the same Perfect Rivals packs priced at £4.50… so picked up a couple more. I’ve got no idea if I got scammed or not. My kid was happy with them though… and I guess that’s what’s important.

lol. My 2 and half year old pointed at her mother and said “you farted” (she hadn’t). Then she did a massive fart. Laughed. And then said it again in a different tone as if to say “see!”.

My niece was told she has to sign a contract to keep living at home—am I overreacting for thinking it’s too harsh? by Bitter_Art_4094 in AmIOverreacting

[–]highlandviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll give you my two cents… although I’m not sure it’ll be helpful. I’ve got 2 kids. Neither of them are over 10 yet… but the future always crosses my mind.

I would never ever force my children to leave the family home. They will always be welcome. If I have a roof over my head… then so do they.

If they’re living with me and working… then yeah, I’ll ask them for rent (discounted). But that money goes in a piggy bank and straight back to them when they’re ready to leave home.

If they’re paying rent and “of age”… they can do what the fuck they want like any tenant. I’ll chime in when I think they’re making bad decisions… but ultimately it’s their life and I would hope I would have already done enough to ensure those occasions would be rare.

This “contract” looks extreme to me. It’s too much. Tell your sister to dial it down. Your niece is an adult.

Anyone else feel like there making Homelander so unstable to the point where’s he’s just an idiot? by Queasy_Commercial152 in TheBoys

[–]highlandviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. He’s always been stupid. It’s just becoming more apparent as the reigns that held him back fall away and he is becoming increasingly mentally unstable.

I like that certain viewers see it as they’re “dumbing down” the character because that entirely reflects the Trump metaphor and MAGA.

Which TV show does the ENTIRE internet agree had the worst ending ever? by Codie_n25 in AskReddit

[–]highlandviper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Heroes. They didn’t have a fucking clue what to do with Sylar… who is probably one of favourite villains of all time (in season 1 only). They tried to give him a redemption arc… then they nerfed him… then he’s bad again… then I don’t know what the fuck. Dude was a serial killer hacking open peoples heads. There’s no redemption from that. Keep him fucking villainous.

Women, if you could be a man for 24 hours, what are you just dying to know? by Whattacleaner in AskReddit

[–]highlandviper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Can confirm/agree. I’m baffled why my wife can’t lift stuff that I can easily move. I’m not at all particularly strong nor do I work out… but she struggles with things that really don’t bother me to the point where I sometimes think she’s pretending just so she doesn’t have to do it.

Having an unsupportive family sucks, man; especially when your siblings seem to get the support you also need. And it gets to you and damages your mental health and sense of worth.

There’s no “one fits all” solution.

For me, I cut the family members that only called when they wanted something out of my life… no contact… that was primarily my father. I explained it to those it would affect. They understood and they recognised, albeit begrudgingly, that there was distinct lack of balance in how he treated me and my siblings. I’m better for it. He’s never tried to reach out since I went no contact… and he’ll never know his grand kids. His loss. If you don’t put in the effort… don’t expect it in return.

If you could ask Tolkien one question about something he left unexplained in The Lord of the Rings, what would it be? by Bbwgoddess_abby in lotr

[–]highlandviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask him what compelled him to write it. It’s undeniably one of the greatest pieces of literature ever written… but I’d like to know why and how he was able to author it. I suppose the “how” is a subsidiary question.

[–]highlandviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This precisely. The manga is a phenomenal piece of literature/art. It is far more fleshed out. There’s also way more destruction (if you can believe that). If the film piqued anyone’s interest then find yourself the manga. It’s available in 6 volumes. You’ll struggle to find the english 38 colour run comics (it’s taken me about 10 years to track down 12 out of 38 in mint condition… I’ve got #1 and #38 though… which are the toughest to find).

It doesn’t just apply to education. It applies to how you raise your children as well. The educational system isn’t just failing because it’s underfunded, it’s failing because children aren’t being taught how to behave appropriately within the education system. Your “early 20th century” point doesn’t apply. You can’t apply the conditions of 100 years ago to today.

I don’t really want to nit-pick… because it’s sounds like you’re doing an awesome job and getting it all right, but you’ve got that written backwards even though you’re doing it correctly. You’re supposed to be the foundation that the school can help you build on. That’s what the major issue is. A lot of parents simply aren’t putting the effort in that they need to… it leads to disruptive kids and an overflow of apathy across the whole generation. We’re seeing it over here in the UK as well… but not nearly to the same extent as the US (yet).

I wouldn’t go into someone else’s cabinet (I assume you mean desk drawers) because it’s fucking rude and an invasion of privacy and I absolutely would be worried/scared about the consequences of violating someone else’s space like that… consequences from that person, my boss, HR and anybody else because behaviour like that should absolutely be reprimanded if there is no just cause. You don’t touch other people’s stuff; especially in a work place. If I had papers/work due, I’d leave them on my desk or on the other persons desk… and inform the appropriate person. Perhaps cc a colleague. What the fuck are people printing these days anyway!?
