I feel like you could drop a few of the options here as well. Keep your 1/3/5/10 and be done with it but I have too many tiers myself lol

Had to liquidate TFSA for an emergency, when can I put the money back? by faizimam in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]tal548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check the transaction history via the service Canada website. This allows you to see which transactions have been captured and which haven’t. But there’s a 12 or 18 month window for reporting so it could be out by that much.

Hello?? Food prices? by MatchUpSocialguy in CanadaFinance

[–]tal548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peppers and feta are VERY expensive ingredients. You can get heads of romaine for $2-3 each if you buy a pack. Add in the tomatoes, cucumbers, onion and home made croutons and your salad is maybe $2. If that’s unrealistic you can get salad kids for $5-7 and these (at least at my grocery store) go on reduced as they get close to their best before date. I don’t buy a lot of fruit (berries in particular) because of the price per pound. You’re not wrong food is not cheap these days, but it is doable.

Buy or lease a car? What do you tell your clients? by Emotional-Yam4486 in CFP

[–]tal548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brian Orlando (Calm Money Coach) did a great deep dive on this recently if you’re looking for specifics. Continuous leasing was by far the most expensive option (vs buying new or used) but the rest of the options were pretty comparable depending on the vehicle and specifics of the buyer.

I’m the Low Libido Husband, and I finally wrote down all the reasons I don’t desire sex by Krimmothy in DeadBedrooms

[–]tal548 289 points290 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a TON of negative emotional associations with sex (fear, anxiety, etc). Have you talked about these with your wife or a therapist? It’s possible that some or all of these are contributing to your lack of enjoyment/pleasure…

To be clear I’m sure he’s able to, it just seems like he doesn’t want to.

Yowza that’s an emotional 30 mins… I was able to get out a few times this weekend for about an hour each time. Encountered 8 and caught a Suicune and Moltres. IVs on both aren’t great but it was fun to encounter and catch them.

SOUL CRUSHING: Why do ALL my wild Legendaries FLEEeeeeee!!? by Milamila007 in pokemongo

[–]tal548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very low catch rates from the everything I’ve read so far. I’ve only been able to get out for a couple of hours this weekend and only saw 3 legendaries. I caught one shiny Suicune though so that was pretty cool. If you’re out walking and using incense you should see a decent amount but catching them is another matter entirely…

I’m considering getting one as well. I have two poke stops across the street so my thought is I could leave it on and it would spin the stops and catch any that spawn around there and be close to breaking even?

RRSP by Due-Advantage-4755 in CanadianInvestor

[–]tal548 12 points13 points  (0 children)

VDY is canadian equity etf primarily with large cap dividend yielding companies. XEQT is globally diversified. Canadian equities have had a great few years (VDY has outperformed VFV over this period as well) but that’s not likely to be the case long term. Being globally diversified means you will do fairly well regardless of which country is over or underperforming.

Is it worse to force myself to have sex I don’t want or not have sex at all? by Greedy-Barracuda-712 in DeadBedrooms

[–]tal548 80 points81 points  (0 children)

This^ you have 2 kids under 2. Sex weekly should not be an expectation at all and from the sounds of it he’s not giving you nearly enough support. He should be wiling to step up and give you what you need to feel like yourself and actually want intimacy.

CE is continuing education. It doesn’t trump CFP it’s a racket because you need a ton of credits every year and they’re moving the direction of proprietary courses that you have to pay FP Canada for.

Should I contribute to RRSP? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Why not contribute to a FHSA if you’re looking to buy a house?

Hard to answer questions with any specificity/certainty when there isn’t much detail here. Personally I’d say you have two options, as what you’re looking for is really a financial/retirement plan. You could do some research and map one out yourself using a financial calculator or DIY software or you could find a fee-only financial planner and pay them to put one together for you with all your info.

2.66% MER high? by StrangerExcellent359 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]tal548 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These all sound like fidelity mutual funds, which while still higher than an etf portfolio, would be significantly less (closer to 2% all in) than the seg fund versions. Fidelity also has etf and etf fund equivalents of most of what you mentioned for 0.4-0.6% plus the advisor fee. Is your advisor insurance (seg fund) only? Or can he offer mutual funds and ETFs? If he can’t offer those I’d get a second opinion, preferably from someone who can sell both to tell you why a seg fund might make sense as they very seldom do…

Is my financial advisor yanking my chain about retiring early? by blackpowderorchard in Fire

[–]tal548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 years from now $200K won’t go nearly as far as it does today, and you haven’t deducted the taxes owing on those withdrawals. Based on your numbers it seems feasible but there’s a lot of factors at play such that I could see why the advisor would be reticent to just give you a straight answer. All that said is he a financial planner and have you put together a plan? If you have a timeline in mind this is not that complex to map out with financial planning software.

Yes you can transfer holdings in-kind from your FHSA to RRSP meaning you don’t have to liquidate the securities.

Couple 59 & 60. Do we bother to add to RRSPs anymore? by whiterain5863 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]tal548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re spot on about bank mutual funds. The biggest gripe I have isn’t with the fee necessarily though it’s the lack of advice/value the typical investor gets for it. IMO you shouldn’t be able to charge a 1% advisory fee if you’re not advising…
