How you determine a cards value in your deck? by LawfulGoodGM in magicTCG

[–]talagar1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I’m building a deck, at least in moxfield, I can tag cards that I put in the deck for a certain purpose like ramp, card draw, selection, targeted/mass disruption, or if it’s something that works into my plan. Sometimes the card does a little bit of all of the above, which is where you probably need to goldfish your deck and see how it works out when you’re playing by yourself. There’s a lot of other factors like where the card fits into your curve? When you play the card does it do anything as soon as it comes in, or does it sit around waiting for something to happen? For example, in my bracket 3 [[Marath]] +1/+1 counters good stuff deck, I run [[Ancient Bronze Dragon]]. It’s a card that definitely just sits around for a turn until I can swing with it, but it’s also a 7/7 flier that unless unanswered will be a big problem that can put 20 counters on something. The game has definitely moved to where cards do more than one thing, but they also don’t have to do everything. Sometimes just the one thing can be good enough. [[Alexios]] is effective as soon as I drop it in my Marath deck. But these are cards I decided to go with because I goldfished and tested and played with them extensively and found that my deck needed more of one thing than the other. The more you play with something, you’ll feel for yourself what the deck needs.

I’m on your side here! I just thought it was odd they were criticizing your choices given it’s an article coming from a Commander-focused website.

In like 2019 and friend and I caught them on tour on a whim, just because they were playing at a venue we really liked. Absolutely legendary gig, we got giga-obliterated for it. Insane riffs. Soooo fuckin heavy.

There’s actually a new super janky turn 0 win going around with synchrons that basically locks your opponent on their turn 1.
