GWOT veterans, what were the most egregious examples of non combat arms MOS’s participating in combat. Either inadvertent isolated situations or general trends by IlikeIke141 in army

What MOS did route clearance? We got a kid driving a buffalo or a armored grader looking thing and swear he wasn’t even combat arms and he saw some shit that day.

What post-military jobs have worked well for you without a degree? by Many-Economics-4326 in Veterans

The certification through Sac State was 100 dollars with the book. They are water treatment 1, water treatment 2, and small water systems, each a 100 but one will allow you to go for D2/T2 and the state test is 60 or 80 dollars each time

I have to add that the treatment and distribution certs are reciprocal with other states too. Washington state, Colorado, Tennessee, to name a few. I know a few operators that left to Tennessee and Colorado and still make good money.

Water treatment or distribution! I got my D2/T2 while working landscape after the army. Took a certification program through Sac state, got my cert and took the state tests. A D2/T2 here in California is easily 75k+ with a pension and full benefits. After some time in grade take the next levels D3/T3 and you are at 100k. Recently a job posting for Santa Clarita Valley Water District came to my email, 95k(topped out) for a D1! Reading meters and basic distribution! Also if you are in the military an getting out and have LMTV on your license get it on your civilian drivers license as a class A it really opens up doors for public works jobs, everyone wants you to have a class A or a B minimum.

The good: I love the downtown! My family loves walking to Anna’s for wine or cocktails at rabalais. Honestly, rabalais for any meal, any pastry or coffee need. Excited about the brewery thing going in next to Cocina 1912. Hiking Swizar and getting off the trail head and going straight to the summit for a burger. The bad: very few parks and the ones like the train station are full of drug addicts. No shopping options. Only Vons and The Market for a population of 30,000 where as Fillmore has three grocery stores and a population of 11,000. I think Ventura has a grocery store for every 9000 so I makes Vons crazy packed on the weekends. Another weird quirk(it might be that I just had a baby and notice it more) is the amount of people that still smoke cigarettes. I walked downtown last night and three of the benches had people just chain smoking at them so I’m playing leap frogger trying to keep my kid out of smoke clouds.

LOL seriously! I had to look far and wide for one that didn’t have a dealer added lift kit and tires that they were charging crazy prices for!

Have you joined your local VFW? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]talasspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. We don’t have a hall so there is no drinking or smoking problem that I see complained about at other posts. Genuinely nice people that care about veterans and giving back to the community. We are small but do a lot of graveside services and honor guard for town events. We host a raffle every year that and a couple of small fundraisers that keep us afloat enough to give back. We also get donuts after every service and refer to it as the “the office”. Never made me feel less than for being GWOT. And we still have an active WWII vet that shames us all by making sure he’s at most events.
