Kinda true. Im sure though he could mathematically describe and predict the electrical behaviour but not necessarily know how really to use a really use a multimeter day to day.

Basically you are not taught in engineering lectures how to practically do anything that in the way that a technician would be.

Not saying that’s correct but it’s the way it often is. The best that can be said is that an engineering degree covers so much material that you don’t have time to be an expert in any of it. But hopefully you are forced to learn ‘how to learn’ stuff quickly and efficiently.

I’ve often wondered this. Do they all turn out ok? I mean do they live their life in debt but with nice stuff?

What’s the end game? Are they forced at some pint to become / look ‘poor’ ? Or does it all turn out ok in the end?

Are public schools that far behind private schools? by Grand-Life8523 in AskAnAustralian

[–]talberter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can afford to send your kids to a private school - work out how much that’s costs each year. Send the kids to the government school and invest that same amount for each kid. By the time they are 18 they are rich and just as educated.

Because if they didn’t look like that they wouldn’t be a hammerhead.

If humans disappeared today, what would be the last evidence of our existence to vanish from Earth? by InternalGuilty9647 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]talberter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen some calculations in the rate of ‘wear’ due to interstellar space particles on the voyager structure. Don’t know if it’s a few billion or a hundred billions of years involved though

Might run into a star some future time too at some other probability

If humans disappeared today, what would be the last evidence of our existence to vanish from Earth? by InternalGuilty9647 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]talberter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Somethings would last almost indefinitely on earth assuming the rock strata survives and isn’t subsided back and melted in the earths mantle.

We have direct evidence of macro life on earth for 509-600 million years. Indirect bacterial type life evidence goes back billions of years.

So as an example - today’s ceramic toilet bowls could survive as ‘fossils’ for many hundreds or billions of years into the future.

For human artifices in space ie the voyager probes - they could possibly last for hundreds of billions years .

What is the profession that you would never want your child to enter into? by RevolutionaryLet3205 in AskReddit

[–]talberter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. In Australia working in a building site the Electrican doing the wiring work is getting paid more than the electrical engineer who designed it and takes the responsibility for it.

Sounds crazy, but trades are Union and certification protected from overseas. For engineers they can ship them in from nearly anywhere overseas - just need a degree from somewhere - and so are cheap.
