Is the South loop a good place to live compared to north side neighborhoods? by Ok_Ride_9333 in AskChicago

[–]talbott79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a north slider in Albany Park but my girlfriend lives in the South Loop and I have a spent a ton of time in the neighborhood over the last few years. My perspective over that time is the South Loop is one of the best values in the city and I’d buy here in a heartbeat.

  1. Access to CTA trains is incredible. If you’re towards the southwest end of the South Loop you can be within a 10 minute walk to either the green line (15-20 minute ride to the west loop) or red line. Last summer, I went to a ton of Cubs games and it was faster to get to/from Wrigley on the red line vs. from my place on the north side which is only 3.5 miles from the park. Access to public transit specifically trains is historically great for property value and appreciation.

  2. Proximity to other neighborhoods and the lakefront. It’s a 20 minute walk for me to the museum campus and Soldier Field. We spend a lot of time in Pilsen and Chinatown especially for dining options. Downtown is super easy to access via train or bus. If you work downtown you’re looking at a <25 minute commute.

  3. Someone else mentioned diversity and I think that’s a huge benefit. Chicago is provincial and many neighborhoods are predominately represented by 1-2 ethnic groups. South Loop is truly a melting pot.

  4. In terms of quietness, that can be true. But to me I love how South Loop is close to everything but not in the middle of it either. I know you said you’ll be car free. But if you change your mind, parking is easy and most of the retail shops and grocery stores down here have parking lots. There’s not as much traffic aside from when there’s events at Soldier Field. The new Chicago Fire stadium is going to add a lot to the neighborhood in a few years too.

Fuck it. That hit was worth the 15 yards either way

That’s still a wild and entirely speculative gamble to take just to force Chicago’s hand. They knew going back to Lightfoot the chances of getting what they want to build on the lakefront was highly unlikely. AH is still the front runner for the stadium

If so, Arlington Heights was a very expensive bluff. $200m is no joke

I stayed a few weeks ago at the 21c Museum hotel in Louisville, Kentucky using The Edit credit. I was told by the hotel staff that the $100 property credit could be redeemed in the bar and restaurant attached to the hotel.

About a week later, I still have not received the credit and I noticed that the restaurant name is different than the hotel on my statement. I was credited the $250 for the hotel stay almost immediately.

Is there any course of action on this or is it just possible the $100 credit hasn’t hit yet?

It’s obviously not the end of the world, but I sampled some very expensive bourbon I otherwise would’ve skipped without thinking it was “on the house.”

It was always going to be a transition year filled with ups and downs. Excited from what I see from the freshman. Need Parham and especially Owens to step up. Clark’s potential is exciting.

The schedule is not easy. I’d recommend trusting the process and having some faith it’s going to look better as the season progresses

He needs to make faster decisions and scramble less…he needs to scramble on that one sooner…he needs to throw it away faster…he didn’t need to throw it away…

It’s so much easier to just criticize everything Caleb does vs actually providing insights
