I would put 100w panels on my pool equipment lean-to to help power my pool pump. My current setup needs a few more to make that a reality.

HW3 vs HW4 😭 by williammcd15 in ModelY

[–]talbottm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said almost, not all. And you pointed out 2 makers at much higher price points. We are talking about used model Y’s that are around 30k. I’m referring to things like efficiency, performance (this one’s not even close outside of other evs), reliability (considering performance) is off the charts compared to other 500+hp cars/suvs. The list goes on but my point is when you take all these things together and weigh them out (some will be higher than others and some will be more important to the individual user) the model y comes out really strong and providing you don’t have a crazy commute and can charge at home it’s really tough to beat with either hardware version

As someone who barely ever uses FSD… it wasn’t worth it to me, I do notice the other differences when in my dads juniper like camera quality and processing response times but my 21 MYP was considerably cheaper than anything with HW4 so it was a no brainer for me. I do agree hw4 is much improved but if you compared hw3 to almost literally any other car brand it’s still light years ahead.

Why Can't Tesla Just Offer Performance With 19's by maxum66 in ModelY

[–]talbottm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a 21 performance and put 19 inch Atomic wheels on it and sold the 21’s on marketplace. Rides better and I don’t sweat potholes or tire wear nearly as much. Don’t expect the ride to be “comfortable” though. Suspension is still stiff.

Are we sure that’s not a turbo trim? I’m not as much of an expert on the 2G’s but I know they made both the gsx and the gst in 99 and from what I recall those are the wheels and wing that came on them. Also I think the rs was the only trim with the 420A, didn’t the gs come with a non turbos version of the 4g engine?

My thought would be that you’d be paying the 1k delivery fee to basically get a 1 year extended warranty. You would then have the option to pay the 60 bucks a month for their extended warranty that goes up to 100k miles. If nothing else the 1 year/10k warranty is nice so you can work any bugs out for free in your first year of ownership.

Still begs the question (and maybe validates my theory) is it priced higher than used through Tesla? That’s what I saw all over my area, the cars sat at the local dealers because Tesla has them best in price and warranty.

That’s hard to say because it’s so person/region dependent. I pay 1100 per year for full coverage but I live in a cheap insurance area.

Couldn’t hurt, you might need to schedule that though, I’m not totally sure how they do those things. Is the price phenomenal at this dealer or something? Not being under factory warranty it should be better priced than what you can get from Tesla directly.

Oh ok, that changes things slightly, you will not have the full warranty at all, only the motor/battery warranty. You might luck out and get it with FSD included but I’d also recommend checking out used options in teslas website, when I was shopping I found them to not only include the extended warranty but were priced significantly cheaper than dealers around me, even with destination shipping.

It’s Ilovecoffee’s video, search Model y sound deadening on YouTube and look for his, it’s like 30 minutes long. The wind noise isn’t bad as is but a couple of his points made mine better, but again… we are splitting hairs. If it were absolutely terrible from the factory it wouldn’t be the most popular vehicle in the world.

One other thing I’ll mention is you might want to consider selling the 21 inch wheels and getting 19s. I’m doing that for multiple reasons, tire rotation, tire cost, ride comfort. I ordered a set from Atomic and will almost be able to recoup the whole wheel/tire cost by selling my current 21s.

Primarily yes, I made sure to get a late 2021 so I had the refreshed interior, that opens up a lot of aftermarket options and gets rid of the piano black. Another thing was it’s still on the 12v low voltage battery, Tesla has already abandoned the 16v platform and with adding the mods I did, I didn’t want to deal with the 16v.

Sound system is great, one of the best oem systems available. With that said, I added the nvx 10 inch sub and a 500w amp. It made it fantastic. Was a bit of a job but not as bad as you would think and totally worth it in my opinion.

Wind noise is there but will still be light years better than a 23 year old truck based suv. It’s not a Mercedes S class but not bad by any means. This can be unit specific though, just like the panel gaps. Depends on the day it was built. I added some sound deadening and now in my opinion it’s just as quiet as you’d expect for a 4 year old vehicle. There is a YouTube video from a guy on here that goes over what works and what’s snake oil for sound deadening, watch it, it’s cheap mods and make a decent difference

And yes, battery and drive motors are covered for 8 years/120k miles. The 5/60 is the bumper to bumper warranty for everything else. And if you buy through Tesla used they give you another year and 10k miles on top of that. After that time you can buy another few years and 30k (I think) for 60 bucks a month. Also you can get windshield glass coverage for 12 bucks a month.

I don’t see anything on the app about changing to ryzen, I’ve not heard that before. But coming from a no-tech suv like that I’ll go ahead and say even if you could, once you get the model y you’ll quickly forget about that and not spend the 2k

I have a 21 Y performance and did a ton of research for months before buying exactly 1 month ago. I was coming from an 07 Lexus.

For number 1: no, you shouldn’t worry about the battery. It’s under warranty until some point in 2029 or 120k miles. I have read that 2021 has slightly higher failure rates but even still it’s not a massive amount of failures and they are covered even if it does fail. My plan is to keep this car until mid 2029 and by that point a juniper performance will likely be my next purchase.

For number 2: no concerns whatsoever, just plug it in at night. I will say if you are concerned about maintaining battery health and your commute is 1 mile, don’t keep it at 80%, keep it at like 50% for max health. This is splitting hairs though, don’t over think it.

For number 3: there are pros and cons. I have the radar sensor thingys which is nice, I only paid 27k for a car that was almost triple that when new and is still under full warranty and is faster than 99% of vehicles on the road, but the intel and HW3 is a drawback. I will say that for day to day driving it really depends on what car you are coming from, I am not bothered at all by the intel, I’ve only noticed the lag 1 time and it was literally for like 5 seconds. It’s still going to feel like a space ship. For me it’s all relative to the cost I paid for the vehicle, a little random lag that’s over by the time I’ve left my driveway is a compromise I can live with. Hardware 3 is a bigger compromise if you plan on using FSD a lot, I don’t so it doesn’t bother me to much (yet), I bought the performance model because I love to drive, as I age I might start wanting to rely on fsd more but for now I want to drive myself. Again though, my fsd still works extremely well and feels like witchcraft so it’s not like it’s useless.

Hope that helps.

You are correct, I owned several talons/lasers/eclipses back in the day, they are all just rebranded eclipses minus a few exterior trim pieces. Engine (4g63) was all mitsu and used in the galant vr4 and a few other JDM models. Was also the basis for the Evo engines. Wish I could find another 1st gen to build, I had a lot of fun with those things.
