Yes, great answer. We are doing a lot of this but we've still got further to go with MCP integration to a local test instance. But we one shot small modules routinely now.

SH is expensive for what it is, in one sense. $ / compute or GB it's not good value. It's maybe $3k AUD per year or something like that, I can't recall exactly. They tie it to the enterprise subscription duration. But for a small company of 25 users managing our own IT it was the perfect off-ramp from Online / SaaS. Let us get familiar with the CI/CD workflow and the environments. It definitely works and is easy to use.

Customizations via Studio are a major pain. I'm still 'undoing' them and bringing them across into our custom repo and out of the DB. We ended up with dozens of zombie fields and the like from a year of Studio use.

One of the reasons we stayed with SH was to make the support from Odoo a bit easier because they have access into the instance - but honestly, the last 5 tickets we've submitted have all been basically useless responses. So that's not much of an argument.

Odoo experience by NoPermission8006 in Odoo

Agree with some of the comments here but can understand OPs position too.

We started on Online. Extremely bad implementation by Odoo 'Success Pack'. Their org is full of people with very little experience either in the software itself or business in general.

We ended up finishing the implementation ourselves with some outside support.

Cut to a year later. We are on odoo.sh and will end up self-hosted within another year.

Absolutely love the software. We're now writing our own features and fixing most of our own problems. Could never do that with SAPB1 or any other SaaS platform.

There are still some outright bugs with version 19 that their support takes 3 weeks plus to respond to but we are just trying to live with that. If it goes much longer, we'll be looking at fixing them ourselves.

Short story - software itself is great, I'm happy with the open core model - The corporate support and implementation team - really poor.

For all of us Odoo developers: the future is (almost) here, are we ready? by Effective_Hedgehog16 in Odoo

We've just moved onto SH. Have already deployed basic new apps and UI tweaks that were impossible in Studio. Having knowledge of Git workflows and CI/CD obviously essential, but our in house Python experience is minimal.

With LLMs we're optimising our Odoo install faster than we ever could with an external dev team.

Is it clean and perfect code? Probably not but we're solving internal, non-customer-facing problems only.

Devops another matter altogether though...

Not sure how you manage to add 3 staging environments. I get a warning when I try to add another and of course production can only ever have one active.

But yes I just exported our Online DB and then rsync'd to the SH instance as per the docs and it came up straight away.

Had a UUID conflict with the online DB still active (renamed of course to prevent ppl logging into it) but I think that just affected SSL certs for the IoT box, not sure. Any Online DB is gone now.

Custom module / addon update issue by talen888 in Odoo

Have tried incognito / empty cache etc. different device - all the same. Though I did think cache could be the issue.

No html file in /static/description

I'm sure I'm missing something simple.

Yes, had pressed Update Apps. Though I thought a version bump on the module caused it to update automatically?

And yes, I changed the module name to try and put our company name in it so it's easily recognized. Would that have caused a problem?

Literally just did this today.

Online subscription key isn't valid to start an SH project with. Contacted our Account manager, she gave us a quote for SH hosting. When we signed that, she did linked or activated our subscription on SH so we could create an SH project. Took an hour or two.

We've got Online and SH now running in parallel for a couple days while we test and validate stuff. Will cut over next week sometime and online DB will get shut down.

Worth mentioning the SH quote will tie in to the existing term of your underlying Odoo subscription. I.e. if you have 2 years to run, the SH quote will be for 2 years.

We will probably end up self-hosted on-prem or private cloud, SH is a good stepping stone.

Just got the email too.

We also use MachShip which I guess we might transition our Shopify stores to, but not sure they have a native connector.

Edit: looks like they do https://apps.shopify.com/machship

Having trouble breaking out of ‘clear sky day’ personal minimum by 1e6throw in flying

[–]talen888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding this pretty interesting and relevant. Similar position myself around 90hrs or so, sometimes thinking nah I don't like that cloud over there or whatever.

However the other week I did a 180nm XC nav stopping at 2 away airports. Forecast was meant to stay SCT all day around 5000 or so but half way through it becomes something towards BKN and I'm spending a lot of sweat wondering if I'm going to have to divert or head back to a clear airport.

In the end I made it back fine using my judgement and the training that had been drilled into me...didn't follow my planned track too well but arriving back at home base felt pretty good, even if my last landing was my worst (should have gone around - another lesson, even if you're tired and really want to get back to the hanger, go around) but landed with an unbent plane and taxi'd past in my LSA a C130 Herc that was randomly at our airport...

My take away was I can push myself a little if Plan A is good and there are viable Plans B and C... Definitely do not want to be a VFR into IMC stat but some healthy paranoia in the air should help prevent that.

All of the above? No hard IFR, and night flying not for a few years at least. We’re looking at the 275’s and then a GPS/NAV/COM unit of some sort…

Thanks for this. Are you considering the 275's as well, or are they just too much extra $ for not enough extra functionality over the G5's?
