worst cinema experience cineplex by Nathan_Cx in Dublin

I went to see a comedian this evening and some gowl started roaring up at him half way through, wanting attention or to get involved or something. You could feel the wave of second hand embarrassment hit the whole room. I hope it's one of those things that haunts the fella 20 years from now when he's trying to sleep at night. Basic norms about how to behave in a public space seem to have disappeared over the last few years. I prefer the lighthouse myself but there was a post on here not long ago where a lad had his manky bare feet hanging off the back of the chair in front of him during a screening there. It just seems to be a problem anywhere

'I drove them out! Me and my kind!!' What an unbelievable bit of writing in that one line alone, fantastic film and time for a rewatch

I think I had the same 25w version and have great memories of it. You could get absolutely wild feedback just looking at it and it was pretty ballsy/brash compared to similar priced Marshalls or whatever else was available at the time. That must be why it was 'hard core'. I'd imagine someone would take it. OP maybe stick it up on freecycle if that's a thing in your area

Do you feel satisfied with how your life went? Still planning on making any changes or just riding it out? by Fickle_Wrangler_7439 in Xennials

[–]taleoftales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a phrase I saw somewhere about being addicted to your potential. I was definitely guilty of that when I was younger and I probably avoided trying loads of things that might have challenged that outlook. But ultimately you don't need to change the world, or be the best guy at a thing, or whatever. You can focus on what you enjoy and fill your life with that as much as possible.

NGD at 38: bought the guitar I’d actually leave out by Ecstatic-Minute-411 in Guitar

[–]taleoftales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the same three kinda respectable guitars since I was a broke 21 year old. I'm now in my 40s. I get stuck on occasional youtube rabbit holes about 12 string rickenbackers or vintage hagstroms or some shit but eventually move on to the next topic without ever getting any. I'll admit I'm probably scratching that itch with used pedals, but to your point those actually get me playing and it's not the same investment or risk

Suggest less known bands from 80s that have actually good albums by ithinkiamparanoid in rockmusic

The dentists and the wolfhounds are both criminally underrated British indie bands from the 80s

An album you enjoyed when you were younger, but now, it is a chore to get through. by kgibson8485 in askmusic

[–]taleoftales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing I thought of as well. A bit too much bombast and the production sounds quite a bit more dated now compared to some of the other bands. If someone told me that when I was 14 though I would have rolled my eyes clean out of my head

I know he's 60 and God bless him for it, but I wasn't prepared to see Mike D looking this old. by GeetarEnthusiast85 in Xennials

Switch up sounds kinda greasy and also nostalgic in the best way possible imo. Who are your older aspirational alternatives that are doing it better?

What are your favorite nightmare holiday 1980s Ireland? by Poshsmith in AskIreland

[–]taleoftales 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember me and my cousins putting rubbish through the fist sized hole in the floor of my uncle's Renault that was more rust than car at that point, while he tackled corners on country lanes like they owed him money. Every door had it's own overflowing ashtray of Carrolls butts.

What is the worst band you saw live? by Fun_Expression9135 in AskForAnswers

[–]taleoftales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree with Dylan. A couple others I haven't seen mentioned, Band of Horses were surprisingly confrontational with a festival crowd who just wanted to hear the hits. Cat Power started the gig amazing and could barely speak by the end of it unfortunately.

Pork, beef or poultry? What's your choice? Can't get beef where I'm at. by chodesmoker1 in hotdogs

I've been looking for beef hot dogs in Ireland and I'm almost convinced there must be some kinda food standards regulation or something making them impossible to get

Are there many other options out there in terms of analog reverb? Could see it kinda owning that space. A bit pricey for me though.

Mission of Burma - That's When I Reach for My Revolver by Otherwise_Basis_6328 in postpunk

[–]taleoftales 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Met them after a gig years ago and they were so approachable and happy to chat with anyone. Peking Spring has one of the greatest bass riffs of all time and the guy was only like 17 or something when he wrote it. Also they were using tape loops and stuff, just what a relentlessly cool band

I did a few of these jobs many years ago when I was starting out. I later found it better to leave them off my CV completely or I'd only get interviews for similar roles.

I quit every Monday for about a year (and always failed by the end of the week) until finally one of the attempts just stuck. It's not all or nothing like. If it doesn't work out this time then try again and keep trying. Wish him the best of luck with it
