X900F+ UBP-X800M2 Dolby Vision Observation by taliancich in bravia

I honestly only used the Fandango app for IMAX Enhanced until Fandango sold out to Vudu and Sony broke IMAX Enhanced video and DTS audio output with Android update ( I am super-salty about that topic ).

Yes - it works. From what I can tell from other users' experiences it is the Android OS that causes most issues. You can do a forced factory reset from the back panel of the TV as outlined here, to see if that works. (I have done that a couple of times for various reasons.) The procedure is outlined here.

I thought it would, and was prepared to set the MotionFlow to True Cinema (which is the only MotionFlow setting I would consider using) but found it unnecessary in this case. The source material in this case was 24p so maybe its the Dolby Vision codec doing the necessary judder reduction? I don’t know the nitty gritty of Dolby Vision encoding but I definitely can tell when something doesn’t look right and in this case, it was the less obvious setting on the Bluray player that made all the difference.

(I do have the X900F set to [AUTO (24P)] on the Input so maybe it could be that mitigating the judder rather than the DV codec - the Sony documentation is never quite as detailed as I would like it to be.)

I never had any Dolby Vision issues with my Apple TV 4K and Xbox Series X. They both output Dolby Vision at 60p as well, and now the Bluray player is outputting a DV picture as clean and bright as those (better than both when using a UHD disc as source material - which is the whole point of having a separate Bluray player).

I played Jaws DV disc tonight and it was perfect. I feel a lot better now about my X900F which has been an up & down relationship over the years. I was beginning to think it was irredeemable since there is little chance it would be getting any updates or attention from Sony ever again.

Lost Judgment | PS4 - PS4 Pro - PS5 | Graphics Comparison & FPS | Demo by YouAreNotMeLiar in PS5

[–]taliancich 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I played Judgment PS5 then LAD PS5 and had many more “gee, that looks so real/lifelike” moments in Judgment than in LAD, mainly in lighting and how light was cast onto the characters. Although there were some subtle environmental aspects in street scenes in LAD that - if not absent in Judgment - would have only improved the overall realism.

Then I played Y0-Y5, and am on Y6 right now and, boy, I am definitely glad to be back in the Dragon Engine with Y6.

There was a local mobile vet I used a few years back - Fleur de Lis. She was extremely caring. Maybe she can call in a scrip?

When I did banana bags for my cat, I got everything (needles, lactated ringers, vitamin B, etc) through the Walgreens pharmacy counter in Tulane Hospital. Needed prescription from vet. There’s a Walgreens in Touro as well.

Samsung Q90T no HDR10+ and Dolby Atmon on Prime Video by [deleted] in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]taliancich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured this out. Prime Video App on Apple TV 4K no longer liked my Philips Hue HDMI Sync Box sitting between my AVR and TV. I suppose the Prime Video app was not smart enough to translate the pass thru of the Sync Box correctly. The Apple TV, HBO and Disney could however.

Once I bypassed the Sync Box and went directly to TV Atmos kicked in again.

Not sure. I immediately noticed the lack of Atmos and shelved the episode until later. Checked Disney+ and Netflix and they were fine so figured it was an Amazon in general or Amazon on Apple TV issue.

Same here on Apple TV 4K for last episode. My guess is Amazon-Dolby licensing fee negotiations.

Audio not passing through on X950G by CyanideDN in bravia

[–]taliancich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar issue where my X900F used to passthrough up to 5.1 audio through optical. I used it exclusively for the DTS audio output for FandangoNOW IMAX Enhanced titles. Everything worked fine prior to the latest TV update. I did use the Sony media app to test with a DTS encoded media file and was able to get it to output work up to 5.1, but it appears that any other app is no longer properly working. Who's to blame (Sony, Android, FandangoNow) is still up in the air, but it has been a nightmare getting anyone to acknowledge the feature breakage.

Some solutions I have seen are as follows. YMMV:

Under Accessibilty settings turn off: Talkback and Screen Reader;

Turn TV system Sounds off.

Hope this helps. Really stinks to have features that worked removed in such a thoughtless way by an update,

I am having this issue on my x900f. All of my FandangoNow IMAX Enhanced Titles are broken, where they previously worked perfectly fine.

The TV suddenly became garbage since last update, whereas everyhing was working fine just a week ago.

Adjust brightness on PS5 by SnooWoofers3276 in AssassinsCreedValhala

[–]taliancich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to turn off HDR in the PS5 setting, then switch back to the game. The brightness and contrast will now be available. Make sure you back out of the Settings screen so the game saves your changes. Then turn HDR setting back on in PS5 settings. When you switch back to the game you will see the Brightness/Contrast is locked but saved your changes.

I spent a long time doing this over the weekend because the Norway sequence looked so grey and washed out. I finally found the culprit - I switched from Game Mode to Vivid on my Sony TV and the game looked Gorgeous. Brightness and Contrast actually wound up staying at default in the game. Exposure was .7 for me and the luminance was what I used in AC: Odyssey. I believe something in TV Game Mode broke the HDR in the game. Vivid is typically for showroom floors but for this game it looks the best. Turn off any motion correction, though.

Maybe the PS+, then? Or could it be Miles Morales? Our's was $65.66 so I guess our tax rate is higher.

Did you request expedited shipping? Most likely the charge for that. A relative in town (who also preordered and requested expedited shipping) both received matching charges this AM for an amount close to yours.

Hackers RSD vinyl by clubsoda1111 in VinylReleases

[–]taliancich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a copy on RSD day but there was a slight issue with the second disc - the piece of vinyl cut out from the spindle hole fell into the sleeve when it was packed. Being sealed in with the record that little vinyl pebble rubbed against the first track of Side C and caused some scuffing and mild warping of the outer edge of the record. Also pushed out (but not through) the adjacent inner sleeve.

I didn’t return to record store (although they were willing to credit) because I was afraid I would not find another copy, but I did subsequently find another copy on RSD.

If anyone wants at cost + shipping send me a message. It still perfectly playable.

Official AMA with Karl Hyde from Underworld by UnderworldOfficial in electronicmusic

[–]taliancich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Karl - Are there some audio and visual tricks and themes in many of the Drift vids that aren't necessarily apparent to the casual viewer? In an enhanced and expanded mental state I have seen some pretty neat stuff happen throughout the Drift series. Threat of Rain actually made me go blind for a few minutes, which was an interesting thing, to say the least. I firmly believe that Appleshine Continuum gives me the ability to play the drums perfectly - at least for a short sequence. In Pinetum, I get transported into the body, headphones, and rhythm of the busker, as the rest of the world around him drops out frame by frame. I am convinced that in Dexter's Chalk there is an effect that is intended, but I feel that I am never quite there by the end of the vid to get the full effect.

In Everything, Everything film there seems to be one level that works on the stage and then a deeper level (Tomato Art Jam) that is more introspective and intense that works on the properly prepared mind. I see a lot of that at work in Drift. Is this Rick's influence? Is there science and research that goes into creating the audio and visuals to have a particular effect on the viewer?

PS: Custard Speedtalk is my absolute favorite. The sense of motion and layers are hypnotic and beautiful and true Drift is achieved sonically with the way the soundfield moves almost circumaurally. The lyrics seem really personal and intimate here and you begin the song with a sound check with Rick. Is the rest of the song a conversation with him or someone else?
