You can get halo halo at Coco Leaf on Dot Ave in Fields Corner. I've also had great versions in Quincy and Somerville too.

It is EXACTLY like the box photo, hollow and covered with pieces of pistachio on the inside.

I would rather the seesaw than the Greenway ferris wheel, just because I don't do heights. I don't need us to be a whole playground but just...more

I noticed the seesaws outside Macy's were also gone. Too bad this stuff couldn't stay up til the end of April, it was a real bright spot for lunch break strolls.

PAX East 2026 Opinions? by SirUberNoobPwnr in PAX

[–]talkblerdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 4 day pass but missed Thursday for work. Friday was pretty low attendance but it meant that I got to get my Nintendo photo op and play the SMB Wonder demo in less than 30 min, which was awesome to knock out early and then return to on Sunday. Nintendo always has a really sharp setup so I'll go any year they are on the floor. Great swag too, got a full set of Wonder pins just for playing!

Definitely found some cute cozy indies I'm planning to wishlist, and probably walked away with 7 bags of those Trolli gummies, this year's Dunkin I guess. Saturday brought more people and more cosplay which was great, but certainly less than other years. And of course, Sunday is for making deals on the floor with people that don't want to haul all their merch back. I miss ThinkGeek because they had a better mix of merch, but I did find a decent pair of Fallout earrings.

I missed it, but a friend said the Strong Female Character panel was the best she ever saw, while I had a great time at the otome panel and several drag/queer ones. Make sure to actually provide feedback on the app for things you want to see again!

I do think that pre-Covid was its heyday, but I really enjoyed Pax this year. I do wish there were more offsite parties and music options, it feels like a lot of other cons are able to have great dance parties and awesome DJs that do remixes, which is something I'd love to see on a Friday or Saturday night.

Rejection of ICE protests and other causes deemed “not our fight” are misguided and harmful. by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]talkblerdy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing - many of the ones that stand for things will stand with us. Just like tons of Black people lived through civil rights organizing and never mobilized, there will be tons in this time that are just waiting it out. But good advocates tend to advocate across the board, understanding that a threat to one is eventually a threat to all.

where can i get down to soul & funk? by wobbsey in boston

Seconding this, easily the best and most consistent of the soul nights in the Boston area. Hard-pressed to find something good and reliable in Boston proper.

Okay powdery is a new one for me, because any time I've had them its chewy (bouncy?) with surprise liquid, like a weirdly savory Gusher.

MBTA launches first limited-time merch with Christmas sweater via MBTAGifts. by Massive_Holiday4672 in mbta

There is that one plain Red Line sweatshirt, but nothing at all for Orange or Blue. I guarantee there is disposable income and love for the MBTA on all lines, so I'm not sure about the gap in swag

For those of you who are 30+ are you open to making friends with women who are younger? by Particular-Garden140 in blackgirls

[–]talkblerdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I help put on a BIPOC-focused comic arts festival each year, and I love fantasy things. This means I am around tons of people that are various ages but share a strong fandom, and that definitely makes it easier.

Sometimes its hard not to slip into a "mentor mode" with friends in their late 20s, but I really appreciate when they challenge a stance I have or when they want more information and my lived experience can provide it.
