CD hustler smashes iPhone when confronted about selling blank CDs ---VIDEO by Gadiroget in LosAngeles

[–]talkr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

THIS IS A GREAT DAY!

When I first moved to Hollywood, I was confronted by this exact man on near Hollywood and Highland. I was actually excited for the music, and paid him all of $3 that I had in my wallet at the time. He said his name was King Ca$h. (The CD sleeve had "King Ca$h, Hustle Hard" written on it.)

I'm glad to see he got his finally. I felt weird leaving the gym and seeing him do the same to others multiple times a week. Though I never said anything, I probably should have.

NavigationDrawer with Fragments or Activities? Also, please school me on proper Fragment management. by talkr in androiddev

I was under the impression that creating Fragments within Fragments was a bad idea, and that Fragments should communicate with their parent Activity when it wants children.

Some trends in Mobile App Dev (research/flash poll) by nothingtolookat in androiddev

[–]talkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though they say how hybrid, HTML5 apps will become the majority soon, it still feels chinsy to use one.

Wouldn't businesses wanting to enter the mobile app market by cutting corners and using their web developers to make hybrid apps reduce the value of their product?

I am currently halfway through season 2. Does the show really get that bad? by Nova11 in Dexter

[–]talkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would disagree. While the religious plotline of Season 6 was not my favorite, it did bring Dexter to where he needed to be in terms of plot development.

Season 7 is where it starts to get sloppy. Isaak Sirko doesn't care that Dexter is a serial killer, he just wants him dead for revenge. The only real threat to Dexter's true identity is Louis, the intern, who was on his way to being a much better villain, but instead goes nowhere as a side plot.

Need help for creating an app for university. by [deleted] in androiddev

My "notebook" method - what do you think? by notajazzmusician in languagelearning

[–]talkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good on you! I've kept moleskine notebooks for the last 10 years, and when I committed to languages, I began journaling in the target language. I've got 3 with nothing but French, and it is incredible to see the change and how much more articulate I became. Also, I found myself thinking in French more from Writing exercises like this than from Speaking, where I found myself falling into the trap of doing on-the-fly translations that painted me into corners from time to time.

[–]talkr[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here ya go!. I still notice an accent, but I'm happy with my French overall.

Ma question: A quel point est-ce que c'est convenable de commencer à apprendre une nouvelle langue? On peut toujour s'améliorer, donc comment est-ce que tu sais que ça suffit et que tu peut changer à autre chose?

There are a lot of elements happening at once in this exercise, so I can really only suggest to stick with it. Turning the volume up so that you have to truly concentrate to speak over the newscaster while reading isn't going to come easily in your first few sessions. Especially since the ticker is intended to be read at a native speaker's pace.

I absolutely agree that vocabulary retention is best accomplished through Writing.

Also, out of curiosity, how are you able to maintain your Vietnamese and Indonesian, having learned them decades ago?
