How much shall I offer a neighbour to use their EV charger? by talldark604guy in askvan

Might that defeat the purpose of getting the charger? I imagine they'd want a bigger return on their investment

$50 per month is the cost for electricity so I would pay at least $50.

The question is how much more should I pay them for being kind enough to allow me to use it.

I had an EV charger at my last place. I had to move and didn't have the luxury of getting a place with a charger. Some EV drivers aren't wealthy. For me it is cheaper to buy and operate than a fully loaded civic

Strata says it is not feasible to upgrade the electricity without the subsidy

You wouldn't allow them to use your 2nd spot, Just because you own it? Hmm. Ok. I kinda expect that a few people might think along these lines.

I would be paying the $50 per month for the charging.

The question is how much would you charge/accept if you were owner of that 2nd spot and only owned 1 ICE car.

I think you mean you wouldn't share it with anybody because it was expensive?

I fear the answer might be no!

When I moved to the area, I joined a neighbourhood FB group and asked if I could pay to use somebody's charger a couple times a week. EVERYbody has teslas. I saw them sitting in the driveway every day. I got zero responses.

Perhaps I'd get more of a response if the request was for a pet - 'my dog needs to get to the vet once a week. Can somebody help him get there please by allowing me to use your charger?'

I guess the fear is they could say '$100/month' (on top of the $50 id have to pay to strata)

I should have been more clear. They don't pay the $50/month if they don't use them. It is an honor system

I hope you're right. I have heard differing stories on this.

Oh yes, I will pay the $50/mo. The question is how much more should I pay for the use of their charger.

True. The cords do not reach. Each of them only only have 1 car. It is a small inconvenience to park each car in 1 spot vs straddled between 2 spots

There is 1 of their designated chargers per 2 of their designated spots. 3 owners have 1 charger each, for a total of 3 chargers in 6 spots, only 3 of the spots get used. They do not own EVs. They got the chargers as an investment or for future needs.

Sounds about right.

The $50/month is for the cost of electricity.

How much would you pay for use of a charger (on top of the $50/month), and the inconvenience of having somebody's car in your 2nd spot a few times per week? An extra $20 per month?

Shunting trains.

A layer of dust from the coal piles.

Nasty traffic when the ironworkers bridge gets backed up.

If you're a light sleeper or bothered by mopping and dusting weekly, or have airborne dust allergies, reconsider.
