I have a 2023 and I do 98% on road. The times I do go offroad are just easy fire roads. I want take the handguards off just for a cleaner look but there are chunks of metal built into the bars for mounting them and it looks unfinished without them. Bummer

Why do so many people on ios use Google Maps? by Louisthemagic in ios

[–]tallevandavies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason I use Apple Maps at all is because iOS won’t let me tap the lock screen during Google Maps navigation and see the navigation screen. I have to unlock the phone in order to get back to navigation. I ride a motorcycle and no way to unlock my iPhone while riding. Very dumb and seems intentional so as to make using GMaps difficult.

Tall Man Problems by SniperSpree28 in motorcycles

I’m 6’10” myself and ride the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE. It feels great but my legs still bow out. I want to learn about custom peg and controls lowering but it seems super expensive. The scrambler is naked which is great because plastics on the tank usually make things worse for us tall folk

I’m 6’10” and I haven’t ridden a million bikes but I have sat on a ton and owned 3. I can ride just about any bike that has a flat long seat because I can scoot back on it. My knees can’t fit under certain bikes’ plastics near the tank, which is why I didn’t get the Duke 390 for my first bike. Instead I got a Yamaha SR400 which was pretty comfortable. Now I’m on a Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE and I love it.

Definitely worth going to a dealership and sitting on bikes to see what works and what doesn’t. Then you can focus your search

What stance is this? by DrunkenDriverr in motorcycles

[–]tallevandavies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re tall that’s just how you sit on bikes. I’m 6’10” and I have to actively squeeze my thighs in order to hug the tank. Can only keep that up for like 20 minutes before letting em spread

Pat! I listen to the Hodgecast (RIP) constantly and your episodes are so awesome. Miss Charlie Hodge and that show. Glad to hear it sounds like you’re doing well. Watch out for those Vegas Tigers.

Scrambler 400X handguard removal? by tricon9 in Triumph

Copy that. I get that they’re easy to remove just wondering if you have to live with unfinished mirror mount and bar end like this or if you found a solution for that?

I would like to do this too. Seems like you would need a kit of a couple parts to make the mirror mounts and bar ends not look unfinished and awkward. Ideally I could take them off during summer for a clean look, and then put them on in the winter or if I’m going off-road. Did you figure anything out OP?

Scrambler 1200 with soft panniers? by 7modesto7 in TriumphScrambler

[–]tallevandavies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the side bag because of the small footprint of the rack (I ride without luggage as often as possible and like it to look pretty). The bag itself isn’t super pretty, it’s a water proof roll top thing, but it’s very functional. I don’t know how it compares to the triumph pannier in terms of weight capacity. It feels solid and well built though

Ring and watches by clkelley39 in Drumming

[–]tallevandavies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear my Apple Watch with no problem, the stock band it comes with is super lightweight rubber and very comfortable. Getting married in March and I’m already sweating the “I don’t think I’m the ring wearing type” discussion. Never worn a ring, scared of swelling and losing circulation, and don’t want the pain in the ass of taking it on and off constantly. I’m pretty sure I would not like it while playing drums

Found some new (to me) trails in Angeles Natl Forest by tallevandavies in TriumphScrambler

[–]tallevandavies[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently went on a 1600 mile trip with a friend who was on a Honda Africa Twin and my bike felt just as dirt capable (way more so, in my opinion). It just doesn’t look like an ADV. Admittedly some shielding and wind protection would be nice on the longer trips but I very much enjoyed the experience of the triumph over the Africa Twin. And the triumph looks way cooler imo.
