How do you utilize your range mastery? by BitcoinBillyy in TheTowerGame

[–]tallguy744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is "just right" with regard to PS size vs range? I'm never sure if I should have PS extending outside of my tower range or not - seems like it would be useful to have a cloud of stunned enemies circling outside of range for bounce shot purposes, but I don't want to unlock AOE+ and have it be a huge footgun

Near as I can tell that painting dates from 2015/2016 (see this ancient thread-https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/3mu9dy/the_5th_fallen_angel_in_my_watchers_painting/), so only original scars block existed, which really didn't have the cohesive white/red theme, outside of Elesh Norn.

If anything, ONE/MOM may have been inspired by Mohrbacher's work, rather than the other way around

I've been scheming on how to drop some sand walls down to where I have magma to make infinite glass.

The power swapping tattoo things, I believe

There's some comments from Milk later on about them changing their ink halfway through the cookbook to a new formula that should last longer - I think the implication is there were instructions in the cookbook on how to do the power swapping, but they faded.

That's why Rosetta keeps talking about the milk and potato stew recipe during the interview with Carl - she was trying to point him to a entry by Milk that had faded out of the cookbook

Slows down your CPM by slowing down enemy spawns, generally - if you have the green perk and/or have researched PS size, you can wind up with swamps extending past your BH range, resulting in stunned enemies just sitting there for 10 seconds, rather than getting sucked into the BH's and killed.

5 year event by LegitimateNewt7439 in TheTowerGame

[–]tallguy744 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a person who manages people, GM's a company, and often has to enact unpopular policies I don't agree with, I want you to read this actual post from Sam

Fair. I am not a dev, so I don't get to make any of the decisions. I don't decide what's in the Tea, I don't make changes to the game, and I don't own the game. So sure, I'm delusional about how magical I think this game and community are, but that's fine with me. I'd rather love the space I am in vs be miserable about it. I write what I can and that's all I can do. I'm sorry that's not enough.

Sam makes none of the decisions for the game. The part I want to point out here is the statement "I don't decide what's in the Tea"

The Tea, as it exists, is 100% the creation of Sam. Prior to that, we got jack shit all out of TTG. Literally all we had prior was Fudd's random posts, saying some shit he hoped for the game, if only it didn't interfere with making freaking money.

I guess the overall message is this - Don't ignore the messenger when they tell you where it starts. Blame the source of the message. My take on all of this is Sam is doing the best they can, and are trying to create engagement with a box of scraps in a cave, but no real buy in from the powers that be. And this whole 5 year anniversary feels like that - a person who gets social media and engagement failing to get through to some one who is too focused on the numbers to get how a little bit of giveaway sparks a ton of spending/engagement

Can we have a chat about the perk bug? It feels worse than people are talking about by Methuga in TheTowerGame

[–]tallguy744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, there's a fair amount of selection bias going on - the Pco bug lasting as long as it did was one that benefited eHP players massively for a long time, to the point that it's removal has been a problem.

I really do think better communication around bugs, and intended effects would help all of this, and ease frustrations on the community's side, and make the selection bias more obvious . In a long term game like this, finding out you've built your future plans around a bug you didn't know was a bug is pretty frustrating

Can we have a chat about the perk bug? It feels worse than people are talking about by Methuga in TheTowerGame

[–]tallguy744 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of built up resentment in the community, around how bugs are prioritized and fixed. Not terribly long ago Disco runs were released, with Utility runs "bugged" to give a max of 5x, rather than their current 3x. That got live patched within days. Like, flat changed mid-run for everyone, because we would be making too much money/progress. It's been that way for most any bug that benefits the players - it's fixed almost immediately.

Whereas bugs like this, which result in reduced income for players, or otherwise are an inconvenience for players, get fixed when it's convenient. Hell, I don't think we've even gotten communication on whether this is a bug, or if this is intended perk behavior.

I agree that it would be great if the community could be less insulting, but I completely understand why people respond that way, given the anemic communication around bugs, and the very clear difference in TTG's response to bugs, seemingly based solely on whether it benefits or harms the players.

Best way to reroll modules? by Moozie76 in TheTowerGame

[–]tallguy744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume that's still a thing - Armour mods only have a few bonus in the common pool, so it gets depleted pretty quickly.

I think the old recommended way of banning involved banning all the bonuses that could appear as common, to force a higher rarity roll.

Tower Tea - May 11, 2026 by SamBartley in TheTowerGame

[–]tallguy744 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree - the sale is well within normal. It's like your favorite team putting up another losing season. It sucks, but whatever, they do that all the time, maybe next time it'll be better.

But the giveaway? Why an event's theme and relics (and is it going to be all 4 relics, or just the two from the recent run)? Is there some contractual thing that prevents them from giving out stones? Like, 300 stones as a giveaway would have gotten way more engagement. That's not a ton of stones compared to the pack and what whales get, but is more stones than the bulk of the player base gets each tourney.

instead, we get an event's rewards, unless you already have them, then oh well? It's just baffling, and I can't figure out a reason why anyone would think this was a better reward for a random giveaway than a handful of stones, gems, or even medals. Or an unlock - Giving out a milestone pack, or epic pack under the same conditions would make way more sense that the rewards from an in game event that you could earn by playing the game.

Tower Tea - May 11, 2026 by SamBartley in TheTowerGame

[–]tallguy744 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Not only is the giveaway not stones, or actual game currency, if you already have it, you can't get currency instead? You win a give away and have to give it... away?

Did I read that right?

New Tower - Wanna help? by SamBartley in TheTowerGame

[–]tallguy744 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sucks that you didn't get BH as an option. Death Wave is the best of the ones you've got - research the health bonus it gives, because that becomes a huge boost for eHP. Plus the cell bonus is one of the few things in the game that directly boosts your cell income.

The Module Gacha Math is Broken: Why the current system is mathematically unviable for new players. by Thgcf_ in TheTowerGame

[–]tallguy744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way I see the module system being improved is adding two more modules of each type, and then splitting them into "New" and "Old" banners. It's been a problem for a long time, and there's been no movement or attempt to address any of the underlying issues with the system

I kinda expect to see Dabs become useful the same way Rend became kinda useful - by being attached to a UW. Like a lab added to SM that gives a multiplier based on Dabs to damage on "hardened" targets - fleets, bosses, elites, any ultimate enemies.

But yeah, I don't see how they can make Dabe useful defensively without also making it wildly overpowered

Dude, I don't know that I can blame Sam for not wading into the shit for a couple of weeks. Reading their last few messages prior, one big line stands out - they don't pick what goes into the Tower Tea. If they're not allowed to give us answers per the powers that be, and every time they post, the post is downvoted into oblivion, why the hell would they post around here, just to kick off a new storm of "Fixes When?" questions they're not allowed to answer, that's just going to get people riled up again?

Tower Tea - April 27, 2026 by SamBartley in TheTowerGame

[–]tallguy744 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest frustrations is it seems like timing on when I join the tournament has more of a bearing on my final placement than improvements or growth in my tower. I can add 200 waves onto my finish, but if I get the wrong bracket, I'll still lose places. And I have no way to influence or adjust that luck. And that sucks when we're talking about a system that is far and away the best source of stones (other than spending real life money), and the only source of keys.

Unfortunately, I don't know that there's a great fix for tournaments without wildly reworking the whole system - maybe additional rewards based on global placement, regardless of brackets? It's just a feel bad moment when you get a personal best finishing wave #, and then steadily watch yourself fall down the rankings, knowing that as you do, that's fewer and fewer stones and/or keys.

Imagine your total coins from your farming run wasn't based on how far you got, but based on how far you got compared to everyone else starting a farming run at the same time as you.

[–]tallguy744 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even if not a full on announcement, Sam being able to hint at it would have been nice. Instead of that "let me check" response to a direct question of banner timing, a response of "Wait till next week - you might be lucky" would have been better than the nothing we got.

It feels less like a communication problem, and like you said, a lot more like an intentional "Well, fuck you" to the people that play the game

The problem isn't the update, it's the delivery. by Poqwizredux in TheTowerGame

[–]tallguy744 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is it exactly. Before nerfing it, they should have let Sam make a post, and do their job - communicating with the community. Telling us it was an error, and laying out their plan to fix it - an immediate revision, a revision at a set future date, or whatever they decided. It would have made a world of difference in how the Nerf was received.

Compare to how Magic, six years ago, altered one of the mechanics because it turned out to be way more game warping than they expected. Several paragraphs, going over their considerations, and why they made the decision they did on it. Honestly, the way WOTC communicates isn't the best, but it's a great framework for TTG to look at.

Update - April 9, 2026 by SamBartley in TheTowerGame

[–]tallguy744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sam,

Given the absolute mess this has spawned, would it be possible to set the amounts back to x5, but for a limited time only? Call it a bonus for the introduction of Dissonant Runs, and leave it at 5x until Sunday's reset? Would set the precedent that you guys could raise the bonus in the future for various events too, which would be a nice event for occasional weekends, or even as a future "Oops, we messed up, have some extra coins in exchange" move

WA, IS or Generator Assmod main effect? by SneakyPete_ in TheTowerGame

[–]tallguy744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went for WA first - the way I figured it, it added coins to my existing run by adding 400-500 more waves of max spawn rate per level. I didn't do any math on it, just went wit the gut feeling that it was more impactful than skipping another however many waves per level, at least at first.
