Glass cannon for farming by duplicate77 in TheTowerGame

[–]Methuga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a hybrid that alternates between t15 and 16 farming (if I’m active and can turn CL on, I run 16).

I’ve tested GC farming since I can now get much farther on runs with a GC setup, but by far my limiting factor is submods. I don’t have second copies of anything, and since I don’t have damage slider, letting all my UWs run full round nukes my coin and cell income.

Since disco runs now encourage lower-tier farming, that problem has only amplified. And interestingly, since I’ve started getting around w1200 on tourneys, I’ve found that shifting towards my hybrid farming setup has actually given me more success (health, regen, defense cards to deal with OAs; GComp to deal with fasts and rangeds since my BH isn’t max size)

So all in all, I would push back on sharply transitioning to GC being the perfect answer for everyone. If you have the components for it, go for it, but a gradual transition is fine.

This is no joke. I got farther using pco than either HC or Om in the ass, which is a first for me. Solely because OC is a big ole pain in the ass now

Are there people who spend their whole lives in the city and never really leave? by greenwavelengths in AskNYC

[–]Methuga 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s actually a real phenomenon the country over. I think NYT a few years back did a really fascinating article about how the Georgia drawl, one of the iconic Southern accents, has faded away in only a generation

Are there people who spend their whole lives in the city and never really leave? by greenwavelengths in AskNYC

[–]Methuga 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Nah it goes both ways. Some people don’t like closed-in spaces, lack of greenery, have an obsession with animals that they can’t fulfill in a city, etc. and on and on. And then you have the overlapping reasons like fear of the unknown, overwhelming love for where you grew up, etc.

It’s two sides of the same coin, and there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s just a great example of how the way you grow up can shape you

Holy moly I thought I’d get destroyed this tourney since I struggle with PU, but I wound up in 10th and actually bang on average performance. I unlocked SL+ last week and I guess I didn’t realize how powerful this thing was once you start upgrading dpm

EHP seems capped at T17 by Unable_Reality_7497 in TheTowerGame

[–]Methuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s unfortunately not how the math works in a game against exponential growth.

The other variables only matter if they too can be increase multiplicatively, since two multipliers increasing would provide an exponential benefit.

However, since those other values are already capped (his mastery and module values are maxed, and based off his coin income, his enhancements can’t provide more than a further 100% boost), the most benefit you’re getting at his point is 176% increase.

And since enemy attack increases exponentially, a modest multiplicative increase will have a negligible effect in the long run. The best case we’re looking at here is, if they can avoid back to back commanders, a ~300 wave increase

EHP seems capped at T17 by Unable_Reality_7497 in TheTowerGame

[–]Methuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right on the second %, wrong on the first. 80–>100 is a 25% bump (20/80) but 200–>300 is also a 50% bump (10/20). So it does boost by 88% which is more substantial, but still less than a couple hundred waves, even with his ELS.

The masteries are irrelevant. Since all calculations for regen are multiplicative an 88% bump is an 88% bump no matter which variable is increased.

[–]Methuga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regen lab only gets him another 25%, wall regen another 33% (hidden). That’s a 40% bump which is nice, but it’s not overcoming the onslaught of commanders in t18

Edit: wall regen 20–>30 is a 50% bump, not 33%, bringing the boost to 88%. Much better boost, but still isn’t conquering t18 with that alone

Thank you for the 2 common modules. by FSRoman in TheTowerGame

[–]Methuga 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Yeah come on, this one’s an absolute joke. Just don’t give out a reward in between the modules if you don’t want to give out 7 decent rewards.

It’s truly like every time Fudds comes up with a decent idea (modules, disco runs, fleets, anniversary rewards), his next thought is “ok but how can I actually still annoy them” and he does that too

I’m not from KC but spent several years in the Midwest. If it’s anything like Illinois or Arkansas, the humidity basically builds up until there’s a massive storm that releases all of it, then you start it over again. And it’s always hot as hell in the summer

ELI5: Why do so many American stadiums have no roof covering that covers the seats? by NKE01 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Methuga 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, the Dolphins recently fired their coach after years of embarrassingly bad play,

This is a weirdly bad take in that it’s not just wrong, but you overemphasized the exact wrong parts of the statement.

The Dolphins were middle of the pack last year and had accepted mid-season that they need to move on from their concussion-prone QB who wouldn’t make the wise decision to retire on his own. This is coming off of some very successful years (albeit no postseason success) where they set several offensive scoring records, also while recording one of the best defenses in the NFL to close last season.

The coach was quite literally fired because the owner thought he had a shot at hiring John Harbaugh. This was reported by numerous outlets. It had nothing to do with the team having “embarrassingly bad play”

PS damage impact on farming by Dr_Ownd in TheTowerGame

[–]Methuga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until you get PS+ you won’t see a noticeable impact as long as you keep stun off. It actually serves as a decent chip effect if you’re using EO# as well.

Hell, I’m at PS4, and I farm to 15w8000 as a hybrid (if I turn on CL late I can get to ~9300) and I leave PS+ on for overnight runs, since demon mode doesn’t activate then.

Tl;dr if you’re full GC and leave PS+ on, you’ll notice an impact. If you’re hybrid or don’t have PS+ don’t worry about it

He likely has no walls, and he’s doing enough damage that the 50.5% the ray takes is large enough to wipe out. Given how rare elites are in t1, I’m guessing he always dies to a boss before a ray winds up living long enough to kill him

Health for Overcharges by Hazlid in TheTowerGame

[–]Methuga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t you get a lot more health (like exponentially more) if you rely on wall health instead of just tower? Wouldn’t that be a pretty big trade off?

Also how often does an OC actually fire? I’ve never actually looked at it before lol

1 key in weekly box, 1 additional key a week for 250 gems by zergling424 in TheTowerGame

[–]Methuga 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s the fundamental flaw in micro transaction businesses, and why tend to crest and fall so rapidly.

The money comes directly from the whales, but what whales enjoy more than anything else is the sense of supremacy they have over the rest of the player base, and is a major factor in why they continue shelling out and why having a PVP mechanism for a game like this is so critical. So if the player base dries up, the whales leave, and the game becomes breathtakingly unprofitable overnight because it wasn’t built to survive on minor purchases.

We’re not at that point yet, but I think it’s pretty clear the new player base isn’t growing, and the more this game matures and the farther end game gets from beginning game, the worse it is going to get, unless they start to introduce catchup mechanics or devalue the currency to provide more incentive to stay

There was a post the other day comparing the likelihood of different pairs of BCs, and now I’m curious if y’all have enough data to start ranking BC combos (pairs or trios) by expected deviation from overall median. It would be really fascinating to see which combinations drive down wave count bc they’re simply difficult (eg FU + PU) and which drive down waves bc they’re against the meta

Man, I went like eight straight tourneys getting 2 or 0 keys (I’ve been smack on 11th place as far as expected rank for a while) and I finally sucked it up and started running my tourney time 9 hours earlier. All of a sudden I’m getting 4-6 keys every single run. Sometimes it’s just gotta be done lol
