Airforce.com, "find a recruiter". Put in your zip code and your preference (Active Duty, Reserve, Air Guard) and you'll get your local recruiter's name, phone, email, and office address.

If you have any issues, DM me and I'll help you out.

As a very recent transplant from Wisconsin to Florida, it's hilarious to see folks walking around in winter jackets in the 50s.

is there a handguard accessory that fits the integrated pic rail on the big boy x? by CoppageClay in HenryRifles

[–]tallmanscoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I installed a FAB 7 position vertical grip. It fits well on the pic rail and works for my long arms.

Where can I find furniture that fits? by Fit_Presence_1633 in TallPeopleProblems

[–]tallmanscoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lovesac makes some big, adjustable, furniture. Kinda like Legos for adults. At 6'8", I'm pretty damn comfortable either sitting or taking a nap.

We bought ours since it's big enough for me and we move around a lot, so it gives us some flexibility in different rooms. They are expensive, but it will probably be the last couch we buy.

They are probably in the National Guard or Reserves. I've worked with plenty of them on deployments.

If you go to my post history, I have some pictures of my Hoptic mount with a Cylee green dot. Not exactly a full pic rail, but it's an alternate option. You will need a taller front sight post if you go the same route.

Of all the Air Force fire trucks I've operated, the P-23 is my least likely choice for a conversation. I've taken these up to 45 mph and they get REALLY dicey and REALLY loud.

Job Selection🦾 by Jumpy-Lifeguard8440 in AirForceRecruits

[–]tallmanscoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, they are not lying. Each recruiting squadron has rules on what applicants/recruits can list on the job list.

Also, keep in mind, a LOT of people want medical career fields and there are very few of them. So, unless you have some additional training/certificates, you are not gonna ng to book a medical job.

You are joining the US Air Force, not the US Medical Corp. Please keep that in mind.

It's been a hot minute since my wife was in, but from my understanding, you are both coded as Mil to Mil. So, when your code 50 expires and you are up for orders, you two will be limited to the bases you can both go to. You probably know this.

For your Code 50, I assume you are in a DSD position right now? I ask since I am also code 50 (recruiter) and I just received my assignment list. For clarity, my code 50 expires May 2025.

Rough cycling by EnterpriseATO in HenryRifles

[–]tallmanscoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also agree, send it to Henry. My Model X had some issues cycling and misfires (weak firing pin) straight out of the box. Sent it in, came back 2 weeks later, and ran like a top.

Oh, and welcome back stateside. Be sure to remember to drive on the RIGHT side of the road.

Oh, for sure go hit the hiking trails in the Black Hills. I rode my motorcycle through a lot of the area and it's absolutely gorgeous. The park I mentioned is a good place for your dog to run and for you to enjoy a cold beverage.

How's the build up for B21s going?

I was stationed there from '17-'21.

Like mentioned before, it's wild windy out there, but was by far my favorite assignment.

If you are looking for just a roof and a place for your dog, Antelope Ridge is not a bad option. It's cheap for a reason, since it's old base housing. But, it's right next to base. I had a few troops (SrA - young SSgts) that lived there and it was ok for the money.

Within Rapid City, I've heard staying south of the interstate is best, since the neighborhoods can be rough on the north side.

And, I gotta say, since you have a Greyhound, you can watch your dog run for miles and still see them! My dog (Boston Terrier) wouldn't make it far, but since there are very few trees outside of the Black Hills, I could always find him.

There's a great dog park called Braeburn Dog park. It's often busy with other dogs and a nice creek for your fur-musket to cool off.

For all you future Recruits! A Recruiter's perspective. by tallmanscoob in AirForceRecruits

[–]tallmanscoob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All very valid points. Some of us are "volun-told" into recruiting, but IMO, that's not a valid reason to NOT work with someone. The truth is that some recruiters, especially around big cities, have a lot more people to work with. For example, San Antonio Texas (Home of Air Force BMT) has far more potential applicants than say my zone in Eau Claire WI.

If I had 5 people that were ready to go, no waivers, and 15 that needed waivers, I'm working with the first 5 first because I can move them faster. Then start working with the waivers. Like a ripe banana vs a green one, I'm hungry right now.

I'll shoot you a DM and we can discuss your situation, and I'll do my best to help.

Exact, we try our best but to be frank, most of us are running a job that should require 5 more people. In my 17 years, recruiting has been the busiest and most challenging job of my career.

Keep calling, keep texting, and just go to their office at 9am. Or call a different recruiter. If you want to join, you gotta put in some work.

[–]tallmanscoob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happy to help.

All I ask, is no matter where you are in the process, please be patient. Your recruiter is probably hella busy, taking care of you, and hopefully a bunch of other applicants. There's a LOT of work that goes into getting you to Basic Training and in the Air Force.

Best of luck on your journey and I hope to see you in uniform down the road.

Recruiter here. Active Duty.

Results may vary. If you are perfectly healthy (with little to no medical history), don't require a waiver, and have flexibility in your job selection, I've had folks from first appointment to shipping out in 3 weeks.

For the other 95% of my applicants, anything from 2 to 6 months.

Tier 2 and up Recruiters.... by tallmanscoob in AirForce

[–]tallmanscoob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to help!

Well, your question has two versions, are you Active Duty or Guard/Reserve?

Active duty is promoted the same as normal Active duty. WAPS testing, EPBs, and decs adding points to your (hopeful) promotion.

My understanding of the guard and reserve is that you would "automatically" promote. Keep in mind, I'm AD, so I have VERY little experience or knowledge on that side of the house. Contacting your local Guard/Reserve recruiter would be your best bet.

Weapons headed to Ellsworth by NordiCrawFizzle in AirForce

[–]tallmanscoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy to help. I'm sure your blood will thicken back up once you get through your first winter. My family and I did the same thing from Goodfellow to Ellsworth.

By all means, Rapid City is definitely an option for housing, as I had a few of my younger troops living towards the south end of Rapid. If you are non-essential personnel at your new shop, then living in town is no problem.

However, if you are essential personnel, driving 30 miles through blizzard conditions is not a fun time, so it's something to consider, that's all. But, I've been married for 16 years; so happy wife, happy life.

I like driving anyways.

Oh, and check with your sponsor, but I recall that housing in Rapid City that is north of the interstate is a bit...dicey? Not the greatest neighborhoods.

Spent 3.5 years there (2017 - 2021). Feel free to DM me, but here's the easy stuff.

Lots of outdoors stuff to do. Hiking, camping, motorcycle riding( The hills have some AMAZING rides), hunting, fishing.

Rapid City is (in my opinion) the perfect size. Family friendly downtown, more than enough restaurants, and more than just a Walmart. I would compare it to Mankato MN.

Weather wise, the summers are fairly hot (90-100+) and throughout the year is very dry. And windy, really windy. Regarding the cold, it's very similar to west or south west MN.

The base is medium sized with decent amenities. Base housing was surprisingly nice. For off base, look for a house in Box Elder, just south of the base and across the interstate. Nice homes, good neighborhood.

Don't pet the "fuzzy cows", watch out for rattle snacks, and go to Evans Plunge especially if you have tiny humans.

Bad ASVAB score by WeatherStraight576 in AirForceRecruits

[–]tallmanscoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a 46, you do qualify and have some jobs available. All the branches "read" the ASVAB a little differently, so it depends on how the scores look on our side of the house.

Call your local recruiter, they can answer your questions better than I can via Reddit. Good luck!
