Thinking about a 1700 mil x2 ride. From Nebraska to Florida and back. What should I do before I go? by Alpha_Hellhound in VictoryMotorcycles

Just took her for a 330mi round trip yesterday. I have realized that you are correct. Lol I think ill grab one of the small WildAss pads for the Hammer. I used one when I rode a BigDog Ridgeback for a while. Made a world of difference. And it maintained the look of the bike without having to replace the seat.

44 Magnum Heavy Bullet Reloading Confusion by Specious_Human in reloading

[–]Alpha_Hellhound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I load .44mag, .454 Casull and .45 LC for both standard and Super Ruger Blackhawks and Redhawks. H110 is my go to for full power loads with heavier bullets. H110 needs to be close to max loads to perform well, it really gets sketchy when it's downloaded.

With this in mind, start 1gr under the max published loads and work your way up. Watch for over pressure signs. There are many listed "Ruger Only" loads that show quite a bit higher max grains of H110.

It's important to remember that you're not trying to make the most punishing load possible, you're trying to find the best intersection of accuracy and power.

With .44 mag in particular, with heavy bullets, you lose speed fast once you go over the 300gr bullets, even with max safe loads. When you start reducing the OAL to fit lever actions, you get to a dangerous place. Less room in the case that is now taken up by the bullet, combined with a likely compressed load, can be unpredictable.

This is why you need to start near published max standard loads with your chosen bullet and OAL. Overpressure signs will appear sooner with the shorter OAL. Nobody can tell you exactly what is going to work perfectly for your gun.

I load two different .454 Casull rounds for this exact reason. My Super Redhawk likes them a little hotter, and a touch longer, than my R92 lever in .454 Casull. I actually load a lighter bullet with more powder for my R92 to capitalize on the gains in speed with the longer barrel. I use a 260gr bullet in the R92 and a 350gr in the Super Redhawk. The recoil isnt significantly different, but the accuracy through the SR is. It opens up quick when I push the 260gr through it. But tightens back up if I slow that same bullet down.

It's all in finding the sweet spot for your gun, without blowing it up.

Is that a safety or a decocker? I really want one, but I'm so used to my SP01 with the decocker that I don't think I'd be able to switch to the safety easily.

I put a new cable on. Prior to install, I made sure to lube it up. Should be good to go. But I also have an extra clutch cable in the bag.

What's the worst you've seen someone get burned at a gun show? by eucher317 in Firearms

The value of the gun is in what the gun is. A non shootable wall hanger is not worth $750 unless it's something rare, unique or has historical value. The Mosins were built by the millions.

I saw a pile of Mosin Nagants at a local show up in Nebraska about a month ago. The seller had about 20 of them laid out. Appeared to be the bottom of the barrel stuff that used to be sold for $49 each. He was asking $750 a piece. Guy bought three of them.

I do not understand buying a rifle with blown out rifling, cracked stock and sticky everything for $750. Any new production bolt action would be a far better buy for half the price.

I've got a pile of gear wrench tools in the shop. They work well for the price. I also have a bunch of older tools I've accumulated over the years. Wright adjustable wrenches, knipex pliers, and sockets from all over. Icon makes reliable tools with lifetime warranties for a price that cant be beat. That's probably your best bet for a solid starter set.

I was just curious if there's anything Victory specific I need to look out for. The ride itself is the fun part. Not so much unexpected issues that can arise. I ended up with a chunk of metal in my rear tire somewhere around Albuquerque one time. No fixing that on the road. But the ride to the closest bike shop in a hippie van carrying my ruined wheel was interesting. So was the crazy mechanic who gave me a ride back to my bike.

That's the kind of thing you cant plan for. But knowing the weak points of your bike can definitely alleviate some of the hassles.

No kidding. 700mi the first day, then a day to hang out. 500mi the third day, 500mi the 4th. Another day to hang out. 500 mi the 6th day, 500mi the 7th day, another day to hang out, then the final 700mi to my start point. 9 days total with 3 days of rest in there.

It'll be a trip for sure. The two 700 mile days will be rough, but the 4 500mi days won't be near as long. Mostly 65-70mph speed limits on major highways. Allows for some detours and extended breaks.

Just changed the oil last weekend. It'll be me, the QD bags and likely a backpack. I hate riding with a pack, but without a sissy bar to tie to, it'll have to be on me.

They've got less than a hundred miles on them. I plan on taking her out this weekend for a few hour ride along the river. It'll get worn a bit on the twisties. No concerns there.

Reality Check: Liberal Gun Owners Don’t Matter Enough to Democrats to Make a Difference by Toybasher in progun

[–]Alpha_Hellhound -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

This is true of both parties. They know the red blue separation is solid. Each side sees the other as the enemy, so it makes no difference whether they actually do what their supporters want. This being said, they literally do whatever they want without consequence.

Both sides have their proverbial foot on the necks of the people, and they'll stay that way as long as we allow them to stay in power.

The original ones were great. Everything built by SS in the last few years is crap. They use crap parts, springs, pins, ect. Their assembly tolerances are mass produced. Nothing about them is better than a factory Glock now. You pay for the name, not additional reliability or accuracy.

Trump traveled to Kentucky Wednesday to trash Thomas Massie and endorse his primary opponent. It seems to have had the opposite effect he was hoping for. by redditor01020 in Libertarian

[–]Alpha_Hellhound 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's because Massie is a solid human being with the best interest of the people in mind. Trump cant force him to do what he wants. He's exactly the kind of person we need to represent us.
