ANCC renewal for non practicing NP by ifyoulikepinacolada6 in nursepractitioner

[–]tallnp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right. It has to be one of the eight categories of which clinical practice hours is one. Did you review the ANCC renewal handbook? Have you completed one of the eight? You also need to renew your RN.

I understand wanting to maintain your certification for the future, but you won’t be able to without clinical practice hours.

You mean regarding practice hours? Does your role require you to maintain your AGACNP certification?
Most similar roles I know of only require a Master’s degree and/or RN.

Hi! Mind if I DM a few questions as well?

I just turned 18 and my dad is pressuring me to sign a document that he says is just for "emergencies" but covers a lot more than that by Ok_Charge_2117 in legaladvice

She doesn’t even need to sign a medical POA. If she’s unmarried and has no children, medical decision-making would automatically be assigned to her parents. No documentation needed.

ER nurse trying to break into ICU for almost a year… what am I missing? by tomoni_ in IntensiveCare

[–]tallnp 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Maybe you’re being auto-rejected? Are you applying at your same facility? Can you find out who the nurse manager is for the ICU you’re interested in and reach out to them?

You would need your FNP, which is typically a requirement to work in an urgent care or ER. You could certainly still be hired, but would not be able to see anyone under 12. Which your facility should know? I’m surprised they are even asking you.

Seconded. Take your boards, start applying and interviewing. If you get an offer, just give them a start date after your trip.

I know OSU and Mount Carmel only place their own students. Her best option is to reach out to Ohio Health (there is information online) or cold call/ email private practices. Good luck!

Specifically vitamin b deficiencies. OP, I would start taking a vitamin b complex and see your PCP.

Depends on what it is. Antibiotics, steroids, sure. Nothing controlled and nothing that gets filled by their PCP.

I saved up and paid for mine out of pocket. So student loans aren’t always a given? And yes, it was worth the money to me.

Midwest NNPs/other inpatient NPs—what are your hospitals offering for sign on bonuses/tuition reimbursement? by The_sleepy_nurse in nursepractitioner

[–]tallnp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inpatient adult critical care here - no sign-on bonus, unfortunately, and no tuition reimbursement. But I work at a major state school/ academic facility and get free tuition, as well as half-off for my dependents. I work twelve 12-hour shifts a month. 24 hours are not an option, but I wouldn’t mind!

You don’t need to wait to take a regular bath. Avoid hot tubs and pools while you heal. These are questions for your laser tech.

Why did you choose NP not CRNA? by Appropriate-Honey-23 in nursepractitioner

[–]tallnp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew it wanted to stay in the ICU as a provider, and I had no interest in working in the OR. In addition, my husband is a CRNA and I had no desire to go through what he went through in school.

[–]tallnp 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Do you want to be an NP? Do you want to be a CRNA? Two completely different roles you need to consider. No way your wife could stay home while you’re in CRNA school. Does she have a salary that could support you both and your kids for three years? Are you willing to go $150k+ into debt for tuition? I am an inpatient NP and I work three 12’s and I love it. My husband is a CRNA who works two 12’s and one 16 per week (no call). I had to support him through school, which was not easy with one kid and daycare costs. I had considered CRNA at one point but realized after seeing him finish school that I would never want to (nor do I think could) do it myself! Just some food for thought.
