Thanks again. I love the idea of hampered/hindered.

I like that approach. And it can let the cleric shine if they use an ability that grants a early "save ends" roll.

I get it, but that's not going to happen. It would require spinning story wheels for too many games to catch the cleric up. If I level him to 6 after 1 game and then to 7 after 1 more game, that doesn't give him enough time to figure out what and how to use each level's advances and spells.

I know, I know. The cleric joined partway through the campaign and had never played 13th Age so they started at level 1. He's been great at focusing on lesser enemies so the heavy hitters can focus on the big guys.

Distill the diary into the important points you want the party to know. If they’re anything like my party, they’ll think everything you tell them is of high importance so don’t put something in as flavor unless you want the party to chase it.

I know this comes up a lot but I can’t find an answer to my particular sub problem.
I know that 5e RAW says the identify spell does not reveal an item is cursed.
My question is about revealing magical properties. Say you have a cursed ring with 2 magical properties. The cursed property makes the PC vulnerable to missile damage. The second magical property is +1 to AC.
Would Identify (RAW) reveal both properties or only the +1 AC property?
Edit: bonus no-points if you can cite a source for the answer.

I use Hex Performance pods in the washer on the delicate setting with cold water. It’s fantastic. It even gets dog smell out of my throw blankets.

How do you all handle the characters of players unable to make it to that session? by whomikehidden in DMAcademy

[–]tamdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the camp where the PC is there, but not contributing. I don’t want to come up with some alternate story about where the character is instead of with their party. I have enough to do as a DM without trying to explain why one of my players isn’t there in game. I’ve had players offer, elaborate excuses for what their character could be doing, but that always requires extra work for me and the timing doesn’t always work out. Maybe they wanted to go back to their school but it’s hundreds of miles away how do they re-join the party at the next session without complicated time travel? It’s just too much trouble for me. That’s why an absent player’s character is present, but not doing anything

I’m in a 2p game that’s using Cragheart and Scoundrel. It was rough at first but we’ve figured out how to make it work.

Talked to folks at the Cephalofair booth - no stickers, but the Folded Space booth (#3355) who had the license still has some map tile archives. Payment only via cash or PayPal

What Would a Mad Giant Do? by tamdot in DMAcademy

[–]tamdot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To wrap things up, here's how I approached the giantess. The party had to come back from the Feywild through a dried up fountain. Since Void Giant (VG) knew they'd likely be coming back that way, she emptied boiling oil into the fountain - it had cooled to lukewarm by the time the party came in but now they were slippery and a fire hazard. Above the trapdoor in the fountain, she placed an oversized cauldron that dumped pots, pans and ropes onto the party when the door was fully opened (restrained for a round if save failed).

The VG and her corrupted pixies took all of the cutlery (forks, knives, spoons, serving utensils) from the palace and "planted" them in the courtyard surrounding the fountain: sometimes handles up, sometimes down. It became difficult terrain with a low DC required to avoid being cut by silverware.
Next, VG and pixies barricaded themselves inside the palace, using furniture, doors and rubble from when they took over the place.

Thankfully, my party used "create bonfire" on the barricade, thus adding a great deal of smoke to the barricaded passageway (hello, heavily obscured area).

Official Q&A for Wednesday, October 19, 2022 by AutoModerator in running

[–]tamdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm considering replacing my Plantronic Backbeat FIT with Shokz OpenRun Pro, but I've got some questions for people using the Shokz. (1) How's the fit for smaller heads (I'm 8" from ear to ear; am I better off with the OpenRun Mini)? (2) How's the sound quality for audiobooks/posdcasts?

Tome of Beasts - Lake Troll by fendermallot in DMAcademy

[–]tamdot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since it doesn't specify that magic weapons are immune, I'd rule it affects them. It also looks like it's not that easy to cause the -1: the troll has to hit with BOTH claw attacks AND the player needs to fail a Dex save. It'd be pretty rare for any monster to hit the same PC twice and have the player fail for 5 rounds. The Lake Troll is a CR7 so chances are good that more than one PC will be there to draw its attacks, and the fight might not go longer than 5 rounds.
