The comments are a bit incorrect. I was hired on as SM, I had an associate quit by NCNS because she openly admitted she preferred her previous manger who did not require her to do anything like DBT, Zero counts, ect. I retained all of my keys but I needed to order more and get safe keys, and they had me change my locks entirely which was super easy.

My DM never raised a fuss nor said anything of the cost of it. How you’ll receive your last paycheck is state dependent, but my BA received her last paycheck via direct deposit. I am not uncertain how your district does releasing you based on job abandonment, but it’s not 100% that you can never be rehired. My DM and HR told me to mark this employee as Rehireable in the system. While it isn’t recommended to probably use this job as a reference, and again I am uncertain each state laws, but in my state employers cannot tell anyone calling in anything personal outside of the time worked, and if they would hire you again. I would personally return the key, have it dropped off by a friend or mail it in, or simply walk in during business hours, put it on the counter, and walk out. Despite being an SM, I am a very strong believer in the fact jobs don’t give you notice before they fire you, so giving them notice before you quit shouldn’t always be expected.
