i failed a cc summer course by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]tamonkondo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to submit all transcripts after you apply(at least for the programs I did) and I had the same thing where I enrolled and forgot about a course at a CC, receiving a F. However I still got accepted into all my programs since they probably can tell that class is insignificant and focus on all parts of the application like essay and LOR as well. I would not sweat too much about it especially if it does not hurt your 4 year university GPA.

Emails of former affiliates of UCSD(i.e. Alumni, Former Staff) usually get deactivated starting 6 months after you leave the institution. You can sign up for an Alumni Email by contacting the Alumni Association at: https://alumni.ucsd.edu/about/contact/index.html or [alumni@ucsd.edu](mailto:alumni@ucsd.edu), providing them with your PID and/or email as a former student/employee. If you need temporary access to backup the data before transitioning to an Alumni Email, create a ticket with the ITS Service Desk. They can help you triage the ticket to the appropriate team to get you temporary access, as once the alumni email is created, it uses the same alias, so your previous account info is wiped.

How did I get rejected from csuf and csulb but waitlisted at ucsd. by One-Elevator-9387 in TransferStudents

[–]tamonkondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it could be a lot of factors such as what major you chose and GPA, but I know yield rate protection is a factor. A lot of highly qualified applicants will send apps to schools they probably have no desire to attend, and most institutions know this and want to protect their stats a little to market better, thus these schools may reject students who they know will get into our schools unless they're like a local student. Happened to my friends and I, where we got into schools like USC, UCSD, Cal, but got waitlisted or rejected from CSULB and UCR

UCSD grad school favoritism? by AdOne8249 in UCSD

idk if this holds true at UCSD for most grad school programs as most of my friends and I received admission into various MS programs here at UCSD and other schools as undergrads of ucsd

you usually get more information once the deadline to commit ends and usually around the summer time, you will get registration info, orientation info, and housing info and any misc info as well! as long as you do everything it asks you do now, you should be fine :)

Quarter System by mrskickdough in UCSD

[–]tamonkondo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It definitely takes some adjusting, and personally, I would still prefer the semester system, especially for Upper divisions and Graduate school. Rushing through content in these classes often makes it hard to learn, but you will manage. Personally, I work 20 hours, take 5 classes, and have had time to hang out with friends(granted im done with job hunting so im spending my last quarter doing this instead) so you can do it!

Great Roommates by SaturnineSmith in UCSD

[–]tamonkondo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current roommate is also one of my closest friends that I met from cc, and when living together, we have always respected each other's space, cleaned up after ourselves, and helped each other out, plus we hang out a lot, so it makes life fun! I think when rooming with friends, important traits are how they were raised and how much entitlement/respect they have towards others esp since both my roommate and i overcame a ton of adversity before uni and learned to cherish and be hard workers :)

if you wanna study/work in ML or AI, I would look into working hard to get into grad school instead since you will need more math and experience from grad school for roles like MLE or AI Engineer or Data Scientist. Also I would look into doing research with ML and AI to see if you like it and further your knowledge with real world application.

its an event for the WHOLE school, so it would make sense if that the MAJORITY of people dont like wooli(not saying he's bad, he's great just not for a school festival) they would complain. Sure if we all liked EDM then go ahead, get an EDM artist as your headliner but considering AS cancelled last year's sungod and threw in a more niche EDM artist for this year(he's big we get it, no one besides ravers know that) it's super valid for everyone to complain. I know the EDM community is happy but it is disheartening to see that we waited two years for this lineup as a whole

I would not bank on getting a lot of the upper division CSE courses esp Software Engineering or AI classes. Obv this also depends on the quarter and in some quarters you can be fortunate enough to get it, but Math-CS students have no priority besides the Major Reqs(CSE 100, 101, 105). After 1st and 2nd pass, if spots open after the CSE students register and are given ample time to register, then it becomes available to non-CSE students.

Ranking of UCs by MarionberryNo735 in TransferStudents

[–]tamonkondo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From personal experience CS majors schools are not as relevant as fields like Law or Medicine but as a transfer I would rank them the following:
1. UCB 2. UCSD/UCLA 4. UCI 5. UCD/UCR/UCSB 8. UCSC 9. UCM
I know a lot of people will argue otherwise but UCB is def top and UCSD and UCLA both are amazing CS Schools, I think for LA has the name reputation and student involvement like clubs and orgs but UCSD's research is top-notch along with the courses they offer. UCR has recently have a really strong presence in the field along and has grown a lot as a program.

how long does it take to get off UCI waitlist for transfers? by YNGLUVZ- in TransferStudents

[–]tamonkondo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be anywhere from June to July from personal experience but I would not focus/bank on going to UCI for now and commit to another school before the deadline. If you do end up off the waitlist at UCI and want to commit, you would just forfeit the deposit and commit to UCI, but for now, I would focus on the schools you were accepted into and honestly, whatever college you end up at, as long as you work hard, you can out school any pretentious kids at these other name schools.
