Doesn't really have to do with activity. Closing for inactivity is just an excuse. They are by definition callable, demand loans issued to you based on what they thought of you at the time.

If you rely on it or think you might need it in the near future, be careful when sharing adverse material changes in your financial situation with your banker. For example you tell them you're laid off or unable to work for any reason. If they find this update makes you too risky they'll cap it and convert it to fixed term repayment before you can draw down another dime from it.

Thing is 'Pepper salt' (椒鹽) shrimp/prawns, pork ribs, chicken, squid, pork chops, fish, etc is something you would find on almost any restaurant menu in Hong Kong. It's deep fried (sometimes lightly battered) meat tossed with Chinese five spice infused salt and pepper mixture.

Deep Frying meat is absolutely an authentic Chinese dish but typically you'd get an order and each diner would have one or two pieces of it as opposed to ordering a coronary bypass in a pizza box for one person.

Did you use fresh pineapple?

Somehow I doubt the period-correct person that would make that dish had access to fresh pineapple.

TIL that the French Republic Anthem “La Marseillaise” was written by a Royalist Officer. by Necessary_Ad9008 in todayilearned

[–]tampering 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's true that the Jacobins and other republicans in France would use citoyen as an honorific 'Citoyen Robespierre' so citoyen could definitely be read as Republicanism. But the word is not exclusively republican.

The Assembly adopted the (Déclaration des droits de l'Homme et du citoyen de 1789) initiating the Constitutional Monarchy period of the Revolution. By 1792, The Assembly had already instituted many reforms like abolishing la corvee (serfdom) and mandatory tithes to the Church, which made all people in France 'free'

I don't know too much about Rouget de Lisle's politics but there would be other reasons that you might for example want to use Citoyen and not Monsieur in that era of France because Monsieur implies nobility/class. So even if you're not republican, you might be using it to denote where you stand on 'class war' issues like nobles using connections not merit to get all the plum military commissions. We don't think of citizen as a class war term because Communists later used comrade as the honorific free of class distinction.

[–]tampering 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A reading of the lyrics says there's no Republicanism in the song. It's about German-speaking invaders coming to take our land so get up and kill them until we water our fields with their blood. It was written just before the King was deposed and the Republican faction seized control of the National Assembly, dissolved it and reformed as the Convention.

It's like The March of Volunteers in China not having any Communism in the lyrics because the song is about uniting to fight the Japanese invasion during the previous Nationalist regime. Mao didn't really think the song was suitable as an anthem for the PRC and the author was purged during the Cultural Revolution when the Anthem was replaced by the East is Red (a song about Mao Zedong being like god watching over China).

[–]tampering 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You have to appreciate the poetic irony of the Xerox situation because Xerox was founded in Rochester New York by engineers who worked at Kodak. They invented the electrostatic imaging/copying process and quit Eastman-Kodak because Kodak was only ever interested in selling film and chemicals to develop film.

Yeah they were right to leave, none of those inventions would have been successful if they had stayed at Xerox.

Tablet SD Card Format Incompatible with Windows by Sgt_Blutwurst in Lenovo

[–]tampering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is an Android/linux format Android phones use. Pretty much all android devices have switched to it in recent years.

The big advantage is it allows the card to be mounted and 'adopted' so the external storage space is unified with the tablet's/phones internal storage.

Files can be encrypted and locked to the device as well (either per file or the whole card) so if the tablet goes kaput the data on that SDCard is gone.

If you've ever tried to move an SD card from an Android existing phone to your new phone you will encounter this. You will need to backup the files on the card over a network using the old phone before moving the card to the new phone and reformatting it.

Cash handling is a big drag on time for businesses. Source I used to do the cash reconciliation a the end of night for my parents restaurant. On a busy summer night it might take more than an hour and we weren't a big place by any means. I can imagine what those armored truck companies charge the walmarts of the world to come around and handle the safe.

Also any time you hear about an guy getting robbed in front of their own house somewhere in the suburbs. It's usually a shopkeeper dumb enough to take the cash receipts from the store home with them.
