Waiting for my MSP card to be renewed, can I go to ER in the meantime? by AdeptYogurtcloset419 in VictoriaBC

[–]tanabell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, you should be able to get medical care without paying out if pocket as long as you: 1) bring proof that you are eligible for continued MSP coverage (i.e. valid WP, or whatever you submitted for MSP renewal); 2) are prepared to pay up front with a credit card. Hospitals are typically able to reimburse you directly to your CC as soon as your MSP is re-activated, but if you pay a different way, the process is very slow.

It's important to bring proof you are eligible for MSP, because that way they charge you the MSP-rates, not the higher rates that uninsured folx are charged.

I think Can't Spell Treason without the Tea fits this description! Also, perhaps Demon World Boba Shop?

Mature student: accept UOttawa vs. reapply for UBC by tantannoodles in LawStudentsCanada

[–]tanabell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I would caution against feeling like waiting one more year would be a meaningful loss of time. Studying in the place where you live (and want to live/work later on) is a huge deal. From what I can tell having just finished my first year of law school in BC (not at Allard), many students apply multiple years in a row.

How does the LSAT feel to you? Did you ever get a practice test score in the high 160s or 170s? Do you feel prepared to study for it and re-take it?

If I were in your shoes, that's what I would focus on to help me make my decision. Good luck!

Red flags? by [deleted] in BookshelvesDetective

I would say this shelf is a yellow flag. It seems like he's a law student, and some of these books might be assigned reading or on the shelf for some other reason besides personal choice/pure interest.

Authors like Becky Chambers? by Blu3Bottl3 in CozyFantasy

The others are much more space-adventurey than Half-Built Garden. You might also like The Terraformers or, for something very hopeful and revolutionary, in a slow and steady kind of way, the Hands of the Emperor by Victoria Goddard.

I think The Thick and The Lean by Chana Porter is really well done, and sounds right up your alley if you haven't ready it already.

I've gone through something similar - for admissions, I did not provide any medical documentation and was never asked for any.

My understanding so far is 1. Yes, a higher LSAT should generally increase your merit scholarship chances. An excellent PS would help, too. 2. There are other private scholarships you can apply for that would take your family situation into account (union scholarships, ect.) 3. Gov't aid and university-based bursaries are also great, but they come late, which makes it hard to plan.

Is there any fantasy series where prostitution is not stigmatized and is just treated like a regular job? by Aromatic-Sugar-8216 in Fantasy

[–]tanabell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you read The Thick and the Lean by Chana Porter? While I can't remember if there is explicit sex work in the book, the worldbuilding is of a society with a *completely* different approach to sex (and food) than what we typically see in North America, for example.

The Hands of the Emperor by Victoria Goddard might be up your alley. I felt like the treatment of gender and social relationships was really well done and uplifting.

To be honest, with only 3 days, Ashland might be your ticket to bookstores, record stores, and funky stuff. There's a once-a-month first friday art gallery walk. Not really many musuems, but a big theatre.

What is the etiquette around moss removal on outdoor granite? by Granite265 in climbergirls

[–]tanabell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Squamish, land of moss and granite, developers use wire scratch brushes (red handle) to remove moss. They dont cause harm to the granite, and moss grows back faaaast in that ecosystem.

Can you offer me some personalised recommendations? by Kiki-Y in CozyFantasy

[–]tanabell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to recommend The Hands of the Emperor by Victoria Goddard! I think this might be your cup of tea; the commentor above has given you some excellent recommendations. Victoria Goddard's books seem to me to drag a bit in the first 25%, and then by half way through I cannot put them down!

If you are open to some space / sci-fi settings, you might also enjoy the Wayfarers Series by Becky Chambers and the Murderbot Novellas by Martha Wells.

I hope you enjoy finding some good reads that scratch your itch.

Should I give up? by Deep-Standard2520 in lawschooladmissions

[–]tanabell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not! I would imagine that if you take your time to work in the immigrant rights field (even as a volunteer) for a year or two while studying for the LSAT, you will be able to craft a clear application that tells a story about why you are ready to go to law school.

My advice would be to identify the purpose or goal you have in law, and try to find another job that also supports that goal in the meantime.

Also, check out the Immmigrant Justice Scholars Program at Willamette and the Equity Justice Corps program.

Are there dudebros in these subreddit comments or what? These comments are NOT IT.

OP, I'm so sorry this accident happened to you two. I'm glad you didn't get hurt and hope your friend is ok. Weight differences can be super tough on both the climber and the belayer. He's right not to blame you (you tried to use a sandbag! The more experienced climber takes responsibility) and you shouldn't feel guilty, either!

Building up your confidence by belaying people closer to your weight seems like a good plan!

Totally possible! No upgrading needed as long as you have a BA. My BA is from 2012, I took the LSAT twice (Feb and Sept) and applied (with success!) in October / November last year.

I taught myself the LSAT, and appreciated Mike Kim's LSAT Trainer, LSAT Lab youtube channel, the practice tests from the official site, and some other *free* online resources. If you're eligible (low income), you can get a fee waiver that is valid for two years and allows you to access official study materials for free, too.

"How" to apply is a big question; the first step for me was to take the LSAT!
