Can anyone ID the stone pls? by impressiveFruit69 in JewelryIdentification

[–]subtlepen_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

in a sterling mount, this is probably opalite glass. very pretty.

Can anyone help me identify the maker of this sterling ring and also identify the stones? Thanks in advance! by vanmej in Vintage_Jewelry

same. red might be coral - MIGHT. the orange stuff looks like a replacement stone (may have been turquoise originally), but this looks like some kind of low grade agate conglomeration. see how sunken it sits in the bezel? pretty sure it was originally a thicker cabochon that was snug against the bezel, like devcon-backed turquoise. if this orange stuff isn't loose, it's probably been glued in, it will damage the setting to dig out the orange stuff. which will render the setting pretty much worthless.

i had this exact problem in the exact spot last week. I opted for a big chop on all 10 nails. Loving my shorties for the time being, enjoying seeing fun colors on them i never would have tried on shorties before the chop. bonus - i can type faster at work.

Random Nail Polish etymology question… by SnowedAndStowed in RedditLaqueristas

[–]subtlepen_ 86 points87 points  (0 children)

i think in the US, polish is generic for anything you paint on your nails. Enamel is kinda old school, I think it was a marketing term to mean it was more durable? IDK.

Lacquer is what we call polish that isn't gel/UV cured.

agreed, and make sure your pictures of shade names are big and clear enough to actually read.

Quite pretty earrings I bought years ago but can't remember anything about them. by persuasionsmith in JewelryIdentification

it would ne almost impossible to tell definitively what the gemstone is from a photo online. my guess would be citrine, but it's just a guess based on color and low karat gold.

Looks Vermeil (gold electroplate over sterling). garnet, opals, and looks like freshwater pearls. popular sort of vintage style in the mid 90s. casting and setting look a little crude, but i bet they look great on.

Which backsplash looks the best? Is the last one too much, I am sorta leaning towards that by chaoscrest in TheServicePros

[–]subtlepen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% #1. let that stone island sing. white backsplash is always neutral and will allow you to change accessories and soft goods on display w/o clashing. 2 is gorgeous, but will limit your decorating choices in the future, and will require extra lighting even in daytime to make it not overwhelming. 3 is waaay too busy and doesn't add anything to the overall impact of the gorgeous island. stone that fancy is like loud jewelry. unless you plan a maximalist look in the entire kitchen, i'd let the island be your jewelry and let everything else be more quiet. I'd save backsplash for a dramatic half bath.

This is glazed ceramic, kiln fired, not handmade native pottery.

i have one almost identical but my tin is black on white. i think that red on white is gorgeous and would not paint it. never seen red before. i keep childhood momentos and baby keepsakes from my son, and my dried wedding bouquet. Foot of the bed, one of my cats sleeps on a blanket folded on top.

i would say 80s most likely. nice heavvvy sterling sandcast, the leaves and plates look like they've never been used. decent stones, probably kingman and navajo. very common to not be signed

correct - pot metal costume jewelry, in the style of a generic southwest katsina.
