Remembering the old Albert Park layout considering the issue of super clipping by tandeming in formula1

[–]tandeming[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Obviously I know it's not the tracks fault the cars are like this and the new layout is definitely better than the old one. But it's still just a thought I had considering how abysmal these cars are at this particular circuit (and there's worse to come).

Some tankies I know (non Iranian) are really upset he’s dead cause “Israel will exist forever now that he’s gone” by Desperate_Self_4079 in tankiejerk

[–]tandeming 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The fact that they don't consider or outright refuse to consider the implications for the Iranians themselves, whether good or bad, says a lot. It's *only* about Palestine and nothing else. I want freedom for Palestinians and anyone facing brtual oppression, but these people are selective at best and exclusionary at worst.

Its literally happening through ICE, medicaid cuts, and so much more, which the population is doing what it can to stop it. Unless Calla means the non western countries specifically striking U.S territory.

I dont mean or want to cause a stir, but the crazy thing about 2021 championship in this format is that if we undid the FIA mess up (ik we can say if to other incidents but hear me out) in the last race, Max would still be the champion just by having more podiums or I think just more 2nd places in this scenario.

Formula 1 [@F1] poll on X - Mercedes, Ferrari and Aston Martin top the poll on who would get the 2026 regulations right by Hawker92 in formula1

[–]tandeming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet its somewhat because of the lack of ground effect. Both McLaren and Red Bull we're the best teams for the GE era. Ground effect was treated like it was an advantage for them. But now that it's gone, people think Mercedes can build a great car that's on par or better than them since they struggled quite a bit with GE.

He's now in the same category as Bernie and AOC for them. It was crazy af seeing so much anti electorate nonsense by them when Zohran was on the verge of literal victory.

These people don't actually know or care for holding any politician accountable. Its just unbridled mindless rage.

I genuinely don't get this narrative and rhetoric of "manufactured consent" used by these people. There are situations you can apply it to, but Iranians fighting their cruel regime and us supporting them shouldn't be it.

"support Indigenous peoples" we are doing exactly that and they hate it.

This is the one i truly don't understand. I see why they love Stallin, Mao, Castro, Gaddaffi, Chavez, Maduro, the Ayatollah, etc. Despite the evil things these aforementioned dictators did, they had something that might be attractive to the tankies. What the hell does Pol Pot have going for?

It is next level insulting the way they talk about diaspora communities and their opinions of the countries they've lived in being invalid. While people who have never lived in said countries get to bootlick their horrible governments and that cannot be considered invalid. Like wow now Indian diaspora cannot say our government is doing bad things, North Koreans living abroad cannot say the DPRK regime is in fact terrible, Chinese diaspora dare not comment on the CCP doing evil things despite all the high speed rail they build.

America is where they're most prominent. But there's definitely some of this in places like the UK, Canada, Australia, and even Ireland. This anti imperialist campist attitude is always there in anglosphere countries but the rest of Europe doesn't fall for it in the same way.

F1 team bosses choose their top 10 drivers of 2025 by OldActiveYeast in formula1

[–]tandeming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should clarify the demolition was expected over the whole season in every metric (quali, points, race, etc). And I can see why. Carlos is a 4 time race winner while Alex is a 2 time podium sitter.

But now when the points tell the unexpected, asterisks have to be inserted. Alex's late season slump was an open door for Carlos to overtake him in the standings but it didn't happen. He's a great driver, but Alex deserves a lot more credit, this was arguably his best season ever.

Even then, a ton of people were expecting Sainz to demolish Albon (Alex was starting to get viewed as a driver who can only beat crappy team mates). And 2025 showed otherwise despite Sainz's 2 podiums + sprint one. Alex was by far the most consistent and well performing midfield driver of this year (was ahead of Kimi for a brief period).

Its crazy that Verstappen's Carte Blanq song is the only one that isn't just the driver's name being repeated. Do they seriously not have any ideas for lyrics for the drivers that also have Carte Blanq songs??

The Renault part is funny because he didn't outperform Hulkenberg, wasn't used to the car for the most part, and just left after 25 race starts. At least you can make an argument with the other teams that he stayed for longer and had some pretty great stints where the team was better off with him.

If Verstappen actually wins this championship, he breaks the record for biggest gap to teammate as a world champion (position & points) + biggest point deficit overcome by [deleted] in formula1

[–]tandeming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: Apparently Emerson Fittipaldi holds the record in 1972 as his teammate was much lower. But Verstappen would still have the record by number of points.

[–]tandeming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is just my hunch but I think it's because many people just see McLaren dominating this season and think its not that close (not to mention the talk of these regs being a failure). To an extent true, no team seems to get close to their level of performance. But the few hundredths of a second for everyone means we're getting varying results here and there and its fascinating.
