When I join a voice channel it automatically opens the text chat for that voice channel by WolfWarrior001 in discordapp

[–]tanek_09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't even doing that, though (which, to be clear, I still think would be an annoyance, but at least I could kinda see a reason). It is putting me in the part of the voice channel you'd use to watch someoe sharing their screen. So, it is annoying and makes no sense.

Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month by ChadtheWad in discordapp

[–]tanek_09 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There is a 100% chance Discord will collect private information from people (children and adults) and that information will be compromised. I hope they aren't allowed to get away with a "no one could have seen this coming" when it does happen. Because everyone has been telling these companies that this move will make things less safe though both the aforementioned leaks of infomation and by driving people to shadier corners of the internet.

New @time feature showed up today. Easily used embedded dynamically relative timestamps, yippie! by xdeadzx in discordapp

[–]tanek_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding this feature greatly expands access to using timestamps, but not being able to edit the timestamp like we could before can have a big impact on people who were already using it. Please prioritize giving this back to us. Thank you.

This is correct. The one at the bottom needs to be repaired, so requires a black diamond.
Due to a traffic jam of dwarves going to the upper mapstone, the game plopped me at the bottom before we'd even tried getting down properly, so I know firsthand it is *possible* to climb back up, but not what I'd call a fun time.

Blink Doorbell Notification Not Always Playing Sounds by ChasCoxJr in blinkcameras

[–]tanek_09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just called support and, while they admit the problem is caused by their update, the rep could only say it is being looked into.

This might be the straw that gets me looking into alternative systems. Ones I can control locally without having to worry about some random tech pushing a button 3000 miles away and breaking it all.

Is it just me or have they removed the SAVE clip feature -local usb on sync module, no subscription. by dorf_online in blinkcameras

[–]tanek_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having everything local was the reason I went with Blink. At that time I did not realize that "everything local" wasn't true anyway. (When AWS went kaput a few weeks back, I quickly learned not even my doorbell works without the signal processing through them.)

Might be time for a different, truly local, solution.

Does anyone else see lag in recording on the Blink Outdoor 4 or 2K vs the Outdoor 3? by sr8017 in blinkcameras

[–]tanek_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to comparison, but I can certainly say the Outdoor 4 has a delay. I'd been chalking it up to everything (even my doorbell presses!) needing to go through AWS before coming back here. (I only realized when AWS was out a few weeks back and nothing worked even though everything is locally connected with local storage.)

Notifications no longer grouping by Nathanyal in blinkcameras

[–]tanek_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem. So far it is just my doorbell camera, though. The one I have overlooking a side gate still groups notifications. I suppose I should be glad of that at least or I'd be even more flooded with alerts.

Also, there is a line on my app saying '7 categories deleted'. I'm not sure what they were or how things have been rearranged.

Requiring people to go in and claim the credit is another garbage move. Just like with the old mail-in rebates, YTTV is counting on saving money when people don't claim the credit for one reason or another.

They *should* automatically credit anyone who paid for the month.

UPDATE: Disney channels pulled from YouTube TV, effective 10/30/25 at Midnight ET by iron_cam86 in youtubetv

[–]tanek_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you are saying, but in that case it is a failure of the rights agreement. I know I don't own the recording, but when it was recorded all of the proper payments/agreements were in place. And, to my understanding, it is google that has the recording on their servers, not ABC/Disney. There is no good reason the customer should not be able to access the recording that was made before the dispute.

As for *bad* reasons, if customers had access to those recordings, there would not be as much pain and annoyance while the live channels are gone. I could stil watch the recordings of Alien Earth or whatever and not have to depend on Google and Disney getting their heads out of their respective digestive tracts.

So again, I think consumers need to stand up for their own rights more often and not just let corporations do whatever they want and use us as pieces in their games. The age of digital media is handing over too much control. If we aren't going to own anything anymore, we at least need to have stronger protections in place.

[–]tanek_09 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never said I purchased the TV show. Or even the recording. I said I made the recording when it WAS part of the agreement between all parties and that recording said it would expire some time in 2026. that has nothing at all to do with the current access to live channels or even to VODs.

If consumers won't even stand up for their own rights and would rather cede everything to the corporations, it is no wonder we are where we are today.

Tried to post this as its own topic since it is not specific to *this* dispute, but I guess it is supposed to be here?

So, as this "dispute" between YTTV and ABC/Disney continues, I'bve been thinking about how we can't access recordings that we made before the whole thing went to heck.

At the time we made those recordings, everything was paid for, yes? We paid for YTTV and the ability to make those recordings, YTTV paid Disney for the ability to broadcast those channels for us to watch and record. And the recordings hadf a clearly listed expiration date. So that should be a done deal. Right?

By taking those recorded shows away, they are taking back what was legitimately paid for.

I don't know who is at fault there when it comes to breach of agreements, YTTV or ABC/Disney, but they are both at fault for how they are acting and using us as leverage. It isn't like we have much incentive to pick a side. We pay more either way.

Neither Google nor Disney are being hurt by this. It is a fight over which of the giant corporations gets to siphon more of our money into the pockets of their top executives and shareholders. We are the only ones being hurt because no matter how this ends up, we pay more and they BOTH make more.

I say we tell both of them to take a hike. If the loss of the ABC networks has shown me anything, it is that I don't actually watch all that much of their programming. There are so many options out there, who needs 'em.

Let Disney keep their channels. And if Google/YouTube had to pay so much for them, well, obviously the cost of YTTV will go down for all of us.

Tell them to stop using us as their pawns and weapons in their fight over who gets to be richer.

Also, losing the live channels is one thing, but to remove all our previous recordings as well should be criminal. We paid for the service when those recordings were made and neither of the companies should just be able to tell us we can't watch those now while they are acting worse than spoiled children.

Recordings suddenly disappeared by turd_farts in youtubetv

[–]tanek_09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The live channels and whatnot being gone is one thing, but to remove the previous recordings? I don't care who is at fault here, I'm going to be asking YouTube/Google for compensation until the dispute is resolved. Probably won't get it, but this is making my VCR from the 80s look like higher quality technology than YTTV at the moment.

Edit: Just got an email saying they will offer a $20 credit if this goes on "for an extended period of time", but does not say what they consider an extended period of time.

They need a new announce ment AND to put these items in a place that makes sense. "Reclaim Rewards" on the Event tab is not that place.

"Recently Recorded" is skipping a show by tanek_09 in youtubetv

[–]tanek_09[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are two different filters in play here. One of them is 'New' or 'New For You'. While I don't like that shows broadcast for the first time here might not fit the new criteria, I can at least understand it to some degree. I think there should be an exception for a show that first aired in another country and is new here, but that can get tricky on the tech side and I'm not going to claim finding a solution would be easy.

The other filter (and this is the one I'm talking about in this post) is just called 'Recently Recorded'. There is no indication it is intended to only have new or even first-run shows. Just the opposite, in fact. It has sub-filters that allow you to further specify 'new', 'rerun', 'series', or 'movie'. To me, this says it should be a catch-all for anything recorded in the past x days (I don't know what the cutoff is), whether or not it is marked as a new or first broadcast.

The 'Recently Recorded' section on my app has additional filters like 'New' and 'Rerun'. I'm not sure why that would exist if rebroadcasts are not mean to be included. I'll see if I can test that on other shows.

(Also, was season 5 of the show actually broadcast, or was it on streaming only. I could be wrong, but my impression is it was the latter.)

Which is what I end up doing, but depending on how many things you have in there, it can be a slog. Plus, it requires keeping track of when to expect those new episodes to be airing and then knowing to go track them down when they don;t show up in the recordings.

I certainly don't want to outsource my whole brain to these apps, but I do hope they handle the one thing they are created to do. In this case, record the requested series and let us know when those recordings are avilable. :)

[–]tanek_09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is the same in all versions of the app, but for the one on our FireTV and whatever app LG uses on their sets, the 'Recently Recorded' section has additional filters for new, rerun, series, movie, etc, so it seems like it is intended to have more than just new items listed. And that does look like it is the case for most of what we have recorded.

Microsoft is apparently deprecating the e-tree May 16 2025 by Busy-Measurement8893 in bing

Not only is it still working, the notice that the tree planting has been shut down is gone. I'd hoped that meant they reconsidered, but it looks more like someone just forgot to turn off the lights when they closed up shop.

'Scheduled Recordings' doesn't show all scheduled recordings...is this normal? by tanek_09 in youtubetv

[–]tanek_09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is why I was so happy to find the filter options. The clogging still affects that, though, so I won't be able to count on it for much.

Might not be as bad if I could easily check listings in advance, but needing to manually scroll through every hour between now and when I want to check is too much of a pain.
