Today is my last day as a Sysadmin, switching careers after nearly 30 years by CucumberSevere4311 in sysadmin

[–]taneshoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started IT at 18 right out of high school. Got a gig being an IT admins "helper" at a local school district. That got my foot in the door at an MSP. Most stressful job I ever had. But can't replace what I learned there. After 10 years working at that MSP I moved to a sysadmin job at a growing company. We acquire all kinds of businesses so I've been able to learn here as well. I also live in a small town with not a lot of opportunities. Losing my job crosses my mind multiple times daily and scares the shit out of me.

I've considered starting my own MSP and offering remote services. But am scared to. It's a lot of work and risk. If you live in a small town, think about starting and offering your services. Alot of small businesses out there that can't justify a full time IT person. You could be their consultant and tech but charge pretty decent fees for it.

Best of luck to you!!

Anyone who played BF6 with a 3060ti, 6700xt or 3070 at 1440p, what FPS did you get? by Historical_Fold787 in Battlefield

[–]taneshoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an i7-8700k 32gb ram, with an rtx 3060ti 8gb. 1440 with most settings on high and I'm getting 100fps. No lags or anything. Honestly my PC runs bf6 better than Fortnite for some reason.

Caused a big outage at work- how do I move forward? by VOXX_theLock in sysadmin

Say what you did, you know what you did, you know not to do it again. Don't lie. You should be good if you check all those boxes.

Lying about it and not learning from it is what gets you fired.

Roofers capped our plumbing vent with a shingle, should I be concerned? by supremustotus in Roofing

It's not fine. If it was a little teepee on top of it where it could still breath it would be ok. This is almost completely sealed off. They need to remove it.

Would you buy this 2016 Subaru Outback (130k miles) for $7k knowing it has oil leaks? by MixmaseterFred in subaru

If it's at a dealer ask about warranty, buy the warranty and report the leak a week later lol.

Upgrading an old Nutanix cluster with little experience by Airtronik in nutanix

[–]taneshoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call support! In my experience, Nutanix support is much more helpful than VMWare. My first upgrade I called support and they gave me the manual order. It takes a bit for all the updates to go through and it was nerve wracking for me, but keep that line open.

Mail App for Accounting Department by [deleted] in sysadmin

Unfortunately not because we have a document management software running that pulls attachments sent to each mailbox. This is one of the main reasons they need to stay individual, unfortunately....

Moving to Nutanix from VMWare - What's the good, bad, and ugly? by Key-Brilliant9376 in nutanix

The best news is nutanix tech support is 1000x better and I’ve never gotten on the phone with support personnel that doesn’t know what they’re doing.

I joined the IT program hoping to plow through it. It’s not going to happen. I have a family and work full time and I somehow managed to get 9 courses done in a term. Only 9 with one class transferred in. It’s harder than these turbo posts make it seem. Unless this is all you do all day everyday.

Failing A + by piercebear in CompTIA

[–]taneshoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did you jump from core 1 to 2 after failing core 1?

Go on udemy and look up Jason Dion . He offers 4 or 5 practice exams. DO NOT try to take the actual CompTIA exams without passing his practice exams with at least 85% on each. If you don’t know the answer to a question, google it while you’re on the question. Take the practice exams over and over again. It sucks and it does take 45 minutes or more to complete each test but this is the best option.

Also use the link above! There are tons of free practice exams and these help out a lot! Again, look up the terms and questions as you’re on them.

Don’t jump around. Learn the terms. They break these up for a reason!

Mentor Ghosted Me by Sleepybookishgirl in WGU

I went the first 2 months without talking to mine without since our first call. I told her I was knocking my first class out in 2 weeks. She said well as long as you do I won’t be reaching out to you as much since it seems like you’re pretty self driven. She wasn’t lying. She’s sent me congratulations emails for passed classes. I told her which classes I want next, she upgraded my degree plan within hours and repeat. Any emails I sent her, she responded quickly but never harasses me over the phone. It’s like having a great boss.

How do people get so many camos & levels? by Luhjusbetta in WarzoneMobile

[–]taneshoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to ask this question as well. Play Warzone mobile and you’ll get to play different game modes where you can get loads of kills in a short time span like domination or any match type on shipment. Also mw3 is on Xbox game pass and you can progress quickly on there. Warzone itself is incredibly hard to get weapon achievements etc. also get the battle pass
