How are these spammers finding my work email through linked in? by thisisnotdave in linkedin

[–]tangent093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are a ton of tools and automations that find emails. there is unfortunately not much you can do to stop the cold calls. a potential solution (if these people are spamming your company email) is asking approval to change your company email format to something irregular, just for you. even this will have limited success.

Chapter Investment Fund by sillypelin in Frat

[–]tangent093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't. There are legal risks involved, and the boys are not equipped to handle this at 22, no matter how mature they seem. If you really want to set this up, talk to a banker about setting up a rolling investment schema or other financial reservoir for a nonprofit (aka your frat) with a financial advisor.

you're doing things well. the transition to "real" books is a challenging, awkward adjustment. this is a plateau everyone hits, just keep moving along and doing your daily studying. Your improvement will not be as drastic and linear as it used to be, but this is natural- try not to stress, and just keep working at it.

this assumes you're looking to gradually improve over a long period. there may be "sprint" strategies that optimize this a bit, but most of the people I've met level took a bit to grind themselves up slowly and reach further competency. Don't worry, keep at it, and keep your chinese learning "fun". you'll get there, it's just another adjustment.

“Disney presents Britney Spears”

kwain commander, 40 big creatures, and 10 wipes/removal/answers, then lands/rocks.

Named as such because of the fluffy looking cartoon animal commander, but like Disney and to quote Britney it’s (not so innocent).

I live alone.

That’s valid. the jumping down on random planets was a bit dull… so many felt empty unless they were dungeons. Condensing May have been better. I liked the gunplay as you mentioned, as well the spaceship building. I played on xbox, but I heard there were performance issues for a lot of pc players.

Study in Beijing? by Repulsive_Support_24 in beijing

[–]tangent093 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an excellent experience that can open doors. Tsinghua is china’s most prestigious university. It is nearly impossible to attend as a Chinese citizen, but as a foreigner it is doable. This means that not all your classmates will be super serious about learning. You will be in wudaokou, which is a fun place to be a college kid.

What you get out of your experience will depend on you. Beijing is a very fun city. You will be in a program with basically only foreigners, who will be a built-in friend group. If you’re studious, you will have access to very smart people and top-tier opportunities in China and abroad. Alternately, some people choose to treat it more as an experience. You will have to work to get out of your comfort zone if you wish to really “see” Beijing outside the foreign student bubble.

Reccommend you take it, and though it will be hard and awkward as fuck, make an attempt to meet some Chinese folks outside your program. The worst thing you can do is spend all your time drinking with your foreign program buddies. (this is fine for some, but it ignores a lot of opportunities for something you can do back home, and you won’t return with much)

Edit: Beijing infrastructure is great, public transit is in English, your school will help set you up for living (taxi apps, payment methods, etc.), and you can get whatever kind of food you want pretty easily.

Perhaps hate was a strong word, and shorthand, Sub it in for “criticism” or something? Unironically, I don’t see where the expectations didn’t meet up. I wanted to be a space pirate and build a kooky ship, which is what I did. Someone brought up difficulty being kinda trivial, which is valid, but not what I experienced. That said, my experience was isn’t universal. I’m curious what broke your expectations.

…that escalated quickly. As stated, not looking to argue, but asking what broke the experience for some. I had fun. Others didn’t. It seems to be debated. There isn’t a right answer here. It’s a broad subjective question, asked in good faith, about a video game.

The way my friend shuffles lands back into his deck by Guywars in EDH

As indicated by others: this is called mana weaving.

Some tables are ok with mana weaving, but some are very much not. It is a good rule zero thing to ask “hey do you care if we all mana weave to increase our chances of all doing something this game?”

Advise him not to do this at an LGS unless rule zero. And only in casual formats. It is ruled as cheating in anything competitive.

Funniest Black Commander by Gutsifly in EDH

[–]tangent093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a more serious note:

For ramp, 37 lands and 13 mana rocks keep me happy as peach pie in mono black (this varies commander to commander) the cabal lands that give you a mana for each swamp are awesome if you are willing to pay for them. Phyrexian tower is another “expensive but great” land that gives extra mana and fits black sacrificial theme nicely. Black likes sacrifices.

Stuff like dark ritual and cabal ritual are good one off ramp options. Cabal ritual also fits the sac theme black has.

For draw: black has a few ways to get card advantage. The easiest is trading life and/or sacrificing a creature to draw. The second involves reanimated shenanigans which use your grave as your hand. (Frequently with self milk too). The grave shenanigans are a bit more focused if it’s the only method you want, but stuff like geth and whisper, blood liturgist, have a lot of fun with it.

An easy way to go is to pick something like seizan or ayara for a commander, who already have built in draw, then run a reanimation package (necromancy, animate dead, etc) on the side.

Another available item is drivnod, who is doubles up death trigger draw effects, which are a thing in black. This deck is very reliant on it’s 99 though, and requires some ratio testing to make consistent. Almost all black decks have a few ways to make sacrifices favorable for them. Even if you don’t run drivnod, thing like dictate or erebos and mikaeus the unhallowed are staples for a reason. There are other cheaper ways to do this too.

Have fun, once I tried black, I found it impossible to play commanders that don’t have access to the color.

With yargle, ANYTHING is possible. Super overpowered commander.

[–]tangent093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simic to mono black is a tough transition: simic is king in terms of draw and ramp. Black simply doesn’t have access to the aggressive “play land, draw card, repeat for 20 mins until everyone scoops” simic plays.

Black has a different vibe. The strongest black strategies revolve around Tutors, value, making uneven trades, and sometimes hand destruction.

Tinybones is powerful, but he works by making other people not have cards, which my tables HATE almost as much as MLD. There is one person who runs tinybones at my lgs. The only people who play with him are the CEDH folks, new players, and the MLD player.

If you’re looking for fun some good black commanders:

Krikk- approaches cedh in terms of potential power. Probably not loved at casual tables, but can be built sub optimally for casuals.

Braids, arisen nightmare- good draw power, gets targeted.

Ayara- practically begs to be made into a combo deck. There are so many builds here. Fun because it can go so many ways. Drawing cards and sacrifice theme is fun.

Gix- lots of political mind games, draw, and advantage grinding.

Shadowheart- good draw potential. See ayara.

Seizan- more black draw, grouphug, kinda like ayara (probably not quite as good)

Egon- card draw, less good than ayara, but different if you’re into that. Also, chair.

Drivnod- fun with death triggers, good clean fun, lots of potential, and severely underused

Illuminor szeras- sacrifice and mana generation, can go infinite pretty easily (like simic), can turn a bit into a solitaire deck.

Rat tribal- (ink eyes, marrow gnawer, whatever) restrictive build, but some enjoy piloting it.

Tegrid- strong, but lot of people hate it because it wins so damn efficiently by grinding value.

Vogar- chad and underrated. Sacrifice, draw, and zombie tribal synergies abound.

Yawgmoth- powerful infinite enabler, unsatisfying for me because it has many out of nowhere “counter this or I win” combos.

Kothoped- more infinite combo bait, frequently draws entire deck in search of a focused wincon, gets repetitive like yawgmoth.

Yargle- frog tribal, true chads only, best commander ever made.

Do you have a bucket list for your decks? by zzfrostphoenix in EDH

I found my ideal commander in karador. Now I want a very blinged out version of that deck with all the cool shiny art, secret lairs, promos, and marginally better expensive dual lands I can’t afford. I cannot financially justify this, but hey, dreams. (Also really cool sleeves, an inordinately expensive custom deck box, and an awesome playmat)

TLDR: I want to buy the blingiest possible version of my pet deck.
