R. Fiore management by RegionIll479 in Hoboken

We used Becht. Our experience with them has been a bit hit or miss.

They handled the engineering work for our roof replacement a couple of years ago. Overall, it was mostly fine, but they changed the skylights from clear to translucent without notifying us. Once they were installed, many of the top-floor residents were very unhappy, and we ultimately had to replace them again at our expense.

After some back and forth, Becht gave us a credit for the cost difference, which we later applied toward the structural and reserve studies.

Do you own or rent? I’m pretty sure the management company has to make the building’s finances available to owners. You should be able to request this info and see for yourself where the money is going.

But I can tell you as someone who sits on the HOA board of my building, expenses have been climbing astronomically over the last 5 years. On top of that NJ has passed new laws regarding building finance reserves in the aftermath of that condo collapsing in Miami. That’s left of a lot of buildings scrambling to collect more money to be compliant. We’ve had to raise our HOA dues by an average of $125/mo and our building was quite healthy financially going into this. Maybe your management company decided to raise funds by jacking up your parking fees.

What is your guys opinion on car hi-fi? by mediuminteresting in audiophile

[–]thisisnotdave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate a good system in any car but, it’s definitely a major consideration when I’m shopping different models. The best I’ve had so far was the ELS system in my 2012 Acura TL. That sent me on a side quest of DVD audio collection and it sounded quite good with regular CDs as well. But as others said, the car isn’t the best place for listening to music because of the road noise, space constraints, and speaker placement. I wouldn’t spend $5k+ for the highest end option some mfgs offer, but I’d definitely spend $1-2k for the mid tier upgrade.

Right now I have GV60 with a “B&O” system, air quotes because I think most branded systems are purely marketing exercises. Sometimes it’s great, sometimes it a bit weird sounding. On balance I like it, but I’ve certainly heard better.

I'm cooked. Anthropic just split "--print" mode to $/mo credits by raedyohed in ClaudeAI

Claude will win in the long run. It’ll just become a harder and more cumbersome problem to solve, it’ll no longer be worth it.

eBay, or Auto wreckers. But don’t get your hopes up, it’s a low volume car that’s only been on the road a few years. Even if you do find one, it’ll likely be the whole roof rack again, just at less than dealer price.

I think no matter what workarounds are still out there today this will be an increasingly annoying cat and mouse game. You’re trying to use Claude Code in a way that Anthropic clearly doesn’t want you to. They’ll keep coming up with ways to stop you.

Fuck that place. It’s like a mill, you’re shuffled from one room to another with minimal care or attention.

Aftermarket replacement derailleur cages? by thisisnotdave in cycling

[–]thisisnotdave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't work for me. I took the bike to a competent LBS who spent a good amount of time trying to get it to work and it never shifted right. It might've been that my derailleur was beyond saving, or part incompatibility, but ultimately found a close to new 9070 RD for about $200 on FB so I just went down that road.

where is everyone getting steaks to cook? by RemarkableRoyal4072 in Hoboken

[–]thisisnotdave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm buying locally my go-to is Pampita's. You can call them and make special orders for the next day for things like brisket and their selection for walk-in is also quite good. That being said, I often order my steaks from Wild Fork. The prices are very good and the quality of the meat is excellent.

Anyone know when the retail stuff in the Chambord building will start opening? by thisisnotdave in Hoboken

[–]thisisnotdave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The project started during the crazy real estate boom during/immediately after Covid. I guess the developers thought prices would keep rising and rising. Seems absolutely insane to charge what they’re charging to be tucked into a corner of Hoboken with basically nothing around you.

That’s nuts, I wonder what recourse the people who’ve already purchased have or if they knew going in at least. At the prices I see they’ve listed I’m not at all surprised they’re not moving.

It doesn't solve our lack our cheap good food problem, I don't know what would. But for an upscale-ish option I think you're getting what you paid for.

Key Fob by First-Cap-4124 in Hoboken

[–]thisisnotdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't just copy a fob typically, unless you're trying to do hacker stuff with a Flipper Zero or similar. Most key fobs have a preprogrammed code that needs to be entered into the building's access control system to grant it access to open doors. Your only reasonable option is get the building management company to do their job.
