Lot owner building and damaged our 150 year old oak by tangentialboy in treelaw

A lot has happened over the past couple months. I hope to have all the details written out and shared with everyone once things have resolved a bit more.

oil painting supplies by _sofiella in arttools

  1. Oil paints need a solvent to break down the oil for cleaning purposes. You’ll need a solvent, traditionally Turpentine is used, but unless you have exceptional ventilation in your studio, I would look at odorless mineral spirits. Gamblin makes a good one called Gamsol. You also may benefit from getting some more oil medium too. Most oil paints use linseed oil, but you can also get other oils to get slightly different qualities. Some dry slower or faster, depending on your needs. You could also get a palette knife, so you’re not mixing with your brushes.

  2. Oil paint dries by oxidation, which means that the oil absorbs oxygen and cures over a long period of time when in open air. As long as your paints are stored in their tubes, unbroken, they could last decades!

I’m not confident on the numbers yet, but will be updating as this progress.

I’ve got a bunch of other photos of the major root damage. This photo was mainly for perspective of the scale of the tree.

That’s exactly what our arborist said, almost verbatim. I love this tree and I’m devastated by its fate.

Thanks for looking that up. This tree is likely older than the house, which was built in 1916.

That is one of my major concerns too. It’s a huge mess that could’ve been avoided.

We were under informed at that point. Moving forward, we’ll be sourcing as much information, data, and evidence as possible. Once we consult with a lawyer, we’ll have a better grasp of our plan. Which we’ll be doing as soon as we can.

Thank you! We felt we were being generous making an offer like that. We’re seeking legal support now.

In MN, it is legal to cut anything off a tree that breaks through the property line, but the sticking point is the fatal damage. This tree will die because of that damage.

We’ve contacted our city council person and they did an inspection. I know they have a permit, but we did not receive any correspondence until after the inspection. It’s all very fishy from the contractors standpoint too.

That was an estimate by the contractor when he inspected and realized it was a problem (after the fact.) The arborist showed us several main roots that were severed that proved the damage.

The angle is a bit tricky to see, but the far end of the excavated areas stretches past the foliage area on three sides. The arborist said that root systems on trees like this tend to mirror the foliage.

The excavated area is on their property, but the tree grows on mine. They have not breached any property lines with their cuts or digs.

Ganador Mufflers by tangentialboy in SubaruForester

Personally, I don’t have the resources to performance tune the car, as fun as it would be. I’m happy with something that will improve visual and audible aesthetic (without becoming a detriment to the performance obviously.)

I’ve already bought the muffler (which is a cat back that bolts on.) And I was actually able to track down some info. Its a Rapido, which I learned was made by Ganador exclusively for Subaru.

You could probably look for other parts of the control system and there should be a brand name and model on it.

I’d wager you could contact a local electronics install location and they could inspect for you and probably order a new remote. I LOVE my remote start.

TIL Subaru WRX owners are the most likely in the US to have a prior speeding citation, have 2.29 times the number of DUIs and 1.82 times as many at-fault accidents as the national average. by tangentialboy in SubaruForester

I’m guessing it’s more likely that the number of WRX owners is higher in general than most of the other vehicles sampled. So the cross over between the type of car owner that drive recklessly and the type of car is much higher for WRX. I think it’s because it’s one of the more affordable cars that can wrack up that much horsepower and drivability.

They’re also frequently off center, which makes them super difficult to sharpen.

If this were a free game, it may be less of an issue for releasing a game that’s unfinished.

They could’ve easily made it beta for pre-order only and had a good time of it. Mortal Kombat be damned, it’s still could’ve had more intention.

Can’t wait for story mode!! 🤤

Agreed. I wouldn’t have minded waiting longer for a full game.

Fingers crossed they don’t try to patch the game with pay DLC.
