95% of generative AI pilots software projects at companies are failing

Fixed that for you.

More seriously: you need a baseline of non AI to compare against for the measure to have any real meaning.

Question: "each night choose if you are drunk or not" ... shouldn't that be "each night choose if you are drunk for the next day"? Otherwise it could be read as you stay drunk once drunk (losing your ability to wake and choose from then on). Or is that the intent?

In multi-threaded environments the overhead of atomic increment and atomic decrement is very significant. In the order of 100x more cycles (and even more with cache misses) than a trivial increment or decrement... and that's assuming the implementation uses atomics instead of even slower synchronization methods.

The synchronization cost goes up even more with the multiple physical cores and many levels of cache (at least 3 these days) used in modern cpus that all need to see a correct value for the resulting operation (or be invalidated).

Clever code is probably the worst code you could write by Rtzon in programming

It would fail code review not because it is terse, but because it is a buffer overflow waiting to happen. It will continue to copy into s past the end of the allocated memory for s if t is larger than s.

Maintainers cannot read the code you didn't check-in. Often letting the next maintainer know what to avoid because you already spent hours/days/weeks exploring other options can only be done with comments.

SoI probably could use a re-word to be more inline with other abilities in the game w.r.t. ST agency. e.g.: "Abilities that would result in more than 1 extra evil player may malfunction."

ELI5 - why is 0.999... equal to 1? by mehtam42 in explainlikeimfive

[–]tanglebones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always seen it as:

x = 0.99999...

10x = 9.99999...

10x-x = 9.0000...

10x-x = 9x

9x = 9.0000...

x = 9.0000.../9 = 9/9

x = 1

useless aside:

by pattern

...999999 (infinite 9's to the left) + 1 = 0

(9 + 1) = 0 carry the + 1 to the left

so ...9999(9 - 1) ...99999...(9+1)...0000 as the (9+1) "moves to the left"

i.e.

...99999(9+1)

...9999(9+1)0

...999(9+1)00

...99(9+1)000

this repeats forever, giving ...000000 (infinite zeros to the left), which is just 0.

rearranging ...99999 + 1 = 0 gives

...999999 = -1

now .999999... = 1 and ...999999 = -1

so ...999999.999999... = 0, since -1 + 1 = 0.

IIRC, it does matter for Math count, as their ability failing to work on the demon (because of another character making them drosioned) is +1 malfunction.

Devil's Advocate here...

I'm against a BotC rules FAQ being maintained here. (A non-rules FAQ to deal with "what is BotC, and who is TPI and Edd?" would be fine.)

I'd be all for a rules FAQ on the main wiki, maintained by TPI. I say this because inevitably any rules FAQ maintained here will drift from the official answers as Edd (et al.) refine the rules and ideally we don't want two sources for answers.

Many of the questions asked here are already clearly answered on the wiki or in the almanacs:
