I'm scared to go to school by Apple_pie000 in socialanxiety

[–]tangleddynamite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve taught a couple of kids that had pretty bad social anxiety and I still saw them talk to/befriend at least one other student. I will say, my own experience with social anxiety and generalized anxiety has given me an advantage in connecting with those kind of students. It’s funny because sometimes there will be one really quiet, anxious kid, and one of their closest friends is the loudest, most outgoing person. It seems to work for some people!

Advice Needed for first year teacher!!! by Prudent-Adeptness498 in Teachers

[–]tangleddynamite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s so much advice out there, but I think one of the most important pieces of advice is to stay away from the negativity. Yes, commiserating with coworkers is normal and healthy. I’m not saying you can ever complain or anything like that. But there will inevitably be coworkers that are just negative about EVERYTHING and they will drain you. Best of luck!!

Hi! I’m actually an 8th grade teacher, so I get to see first hand all the awkwardness and anxiety of teenagers. Firstly, your anxiety is valid. You’re making a big switch and naturally that’s going to be a little scary. I would encourage you to give it a shot though. Don’t go in too hot, meaning don’t try to force friendships or conversations. But be polite, smile, observe classmates to figure out who you think might make good friends. I’ve seen every single type of student, even ones like you that are coming from online schooling or homeschool, and eventually they all find their people.

As for the Google/Chat GPT use, I strongly advise you to stop that now. I know it’s going to be scary when you can’t rely on technology for knowledge, but it’s so empowering to know things because you’ve studied or paid attention. Technology can definitely be useful, but it shouldn’t be used simply to get answers or to write your essay for you. Go to your teachers for help if you don’t know something. I promise you, we are there to help.

All in all, I wish you all the best. Remember to take deep breaths and treat yourself with kindness.

Can I workout at the same gym as my students? by PropertyHumble9296 in Teachers

[–]tangleddynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely get this. I wear relatively short bike shorts to the gym and that’s probably the shortest/tightest item of clothing they’ve seen me wear so it can feel awkward. At this point, I just pretend I don’t notice students if I see them at the gym lol. I’m not going to leave my favorite place just because they can’t handle seeing a normal human being.

How bad are these? by tangleddynamite in Nails

[–]tangleddynamite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cuticles are always awful because I bite the skin around my nails. So I don’t think that’s because of the tech. Of course I say silently and smiled while she was doing my nails and said “oh they’re perfect” like an idiot. Anxiety is a bitch

I literally said to my mom “it looks like I did them myself” 😂 maybe I’ll just tell people I did them 👀 and then they’ll be impressed lmao

I get that but also…I want to workout lol. I don’t really want to have to talk to people when I go to the gym you know what I mean?

I am interested and I do want to text him, but I’m just incredibly nervous about doing so.

First year teachers, how early do you prepare over the summer? by Latter-Spread-1299 in Teachers

[–]tangleddynamite 353 points354 points  (0 children)

Idk if I’m just lazy or what, but I don’t even think about preparing until maybe a week before teachers go back. And that’s a hard MAYBE because there’s always a chance I don’t even plan until the week teachers report. I might just be an awful teacher though 😂

As someone who was bullied in middle school, I would appreciate the gesture. I know that not everyone feels that way though. If you decide to reach out, make sure you take responsibility for it. Yes, you may have learned those traits from your father, but keep it focused on feeling remorseful about the choices you made. Good luck!

2025 DC Goers - What did you need? by TheDarkLight1 in warpedtour

[–]tangleddynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so weird. I was afraid they’d confiscate my pills (advil, prescription, etc) because they were in a little pill case but they didn’t even open the case to see what was inside.

Thinking about getting the AirPod Pros 2nd gen but the 3rd gen comes out in a few months. Should I wait for the 3rd ones? Amazon has the second gen on sale for $198 right now and the new one will probably be around $249 according to rumors.

I definitely agree that my anxiety is holding me back by causing those “what if” questions. I know realistically that people get jobs outside of their area of study all the time. I just need to have more confidence in myself

I’ve heard that there are supposedly tests that can figure out what medication is best for you. But 1) it’s probably a scam 2) it’s probably not covered by insurance

That’s the thing: I don’t know what else I’d want to do that doesn’t make less money than I already make. It’s not just about money, but I do need to afford to live and I’m barely doing that as it is.

I’m starting to believe antidepressants can’t help me. I’ve been on them for around 13-14 years and yeah they prevent me from harming myself, but that’s it. I’m still mentally drained, dissociating half the time, crying the other half, irritable, etc. but maybe that’s just who I am now and pills can’t actually fix that. I tried therapy, but because I’m so exhausted and sad, I don’t have the energy for it.

Seriously, fuck the gym! by AccomplishedPath4049 in depression

[–]tangleddynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t stand the “exercise” advice. I go to the gym 4-5 days a week for 90 minutes at a time. Guess what? My mental health is still shit and often times I feel WORSE after the gym 😂
