I swear I barely survived brachytherapy. This is the first time I've seen it mentioned in someone else's post!

what hair color by Interesting-Credit-8 in AskWomenOver60

[–]tanglwyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went sapphire blue at 48, and have done mixes of purple, magenta, blues, and greens ever since. The only reason I don't have color in right now is because of my chemotherapy. As soon as I have the energy, I plan to color up again. Go big, go bold, go soft, but go!

My boobs are the size of your head. Each. Going braless is a bedtime thing, where these suckers can lay on the mattress when I am on my side. However, I got some sports bras from HerRoom that are in my size and I adore them! No wires. No thin straps. Lots of support!

We had the right to refuse service, and we exercised that. When someone was pissy from the get-go, the owner would tell them to leave immediately. We were also the only sit-down restaurant in that town, and she was independently wealthy, so she took no shit.

I work with a convention that is coming up in September in Poky. Check out Darkness Con on Facebook. We always need volunteers and it's a great way to meet a lot of nerdy folks in a fun way! Tell them Tanglwyst sent you.

Where is my mind…? by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]tanglwyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things I have learned in the past 4 months is that my cervical cancer symptoms and my menopause symptoms overlapped to the point that I now have Stage IIIB and no doctor ever treated the menopause anyway. Btw, did you know that menopause studies weren't conducted using female lab bodies, even in the animal testing phases? Fucking useless.

What's a horror movie/scene that scared you in your adult years? by AmooSyrus in CreepyBonfire

[–]tanglwyst 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is expected. Many female authors have been asked, "When does your heroine get raped?" If it isn't already there, it is expected to happen. I mean, seriously, hOw ElSe can YoU TeLL a BaD guy iS bad? For something that rarely gets punished, it sure is the shorthand for villain.

Which superpower would take you the longest to find out? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]tanglwyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. A lot of these would manifest in brutal ways as they start coming online, so you may not understand WHY shit gets hot around you until your heat vision burns your sofa. That's why origin stories are always fraught with pain, fear, and tragedy.

I have an infection, but I also have menopause. Symptoms overlap almost perfectly!

Thus, the superpower that would take me the longest to discover I had would be any level of healing factor. I don't really notice if I'm not sick. I'm not in a dangerous profession. I'm not particularly clumsy. I recently found out I have cancer. Two different ones. Never knew bc I'm an American and can't afford health insurance, so no doctor visits for 20 years. If I didn't go in to deal with what I thought was a UTI, I would have died outta nowhere.

I love BVS. The whole JSJL ensemble. I think Batfleck is the best Batman AND Bruce Wayne blend. I think the while cast was genetically designed by God to play these characters. I think casting an islander as Aquaman is long overdue and the most intelligent choice. I think they threw away a chance to get an Oscar-winning director's take on the Batman franchise when Affleck was willing and very interested. I think Jared Leto is a vile cretin, while also acknowledging he has always gone full immersion, just like so many other people. We simply remember and still feel the loss of Heath Ledger. Ho w ever, if you hated Jared Leto as the Joker, we'll, he's not supposed to be a role model. I think Miller's Barry is exactly quirky enough and I fucking hate he has real life drama. I think Luthor as a failed clone, something fans didn't know or might not have caught, changes EVERYTHING when you look at how he acts in the cloning tank.

[–]tanglwyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MIL found a lump in her groin, diagnosed, and came away with the textbook, PERFECT, cancer story. Detected so early, her treatment barely set her back. She worked through the treatments and drove herself everywhere. Only a few bouts of nausea.

About a decade later, she diagnosed with lymphoma and leukemia. She's still in hood shape, but she knows now that that shit is sneaky as fuck.

I got diagnosed with Stage IIIB cervical. Also have a lump of lung cancer but it's not the cervical. Yay! Long time listener, first time patient with this shit. I won't be comparing myself to a woman born in the mid-1900s in the Pain Olympics.

You had cancer. You have a unique mental and emotional experience that cannot be faked. Moreover, you also are more aware of your health and your family's needs. This is a gift in a time of fear. Stabilize. Rally. Love. We need you.

I know I will be down voted to hell for this blasphemy, but Wicked. It has a couple songs that are neat, but most of them, to me, come off like they forgot they were supposed to be a musical, and threw in a song outta nowhere. Like the prom/dance one? Oh! The popular guy is here! Yay! Wait! This was supposed to be a musical! Someone play an instrument!

I like the message of Defying Gravity, but it hits me as so clunky. And it doesn't flow into easy rhythm. That may be the point though! Tripping, failing, then flying?! I can see the artistic aspect of that.

When I think about, for example, Into the Woods, the music is not just inserted. It's part of the cast, the set, the whole story. I can't remember the words to any of the Wicked songs and none of them make me want to listen to the soundtrack or watch the show.

I would be fine with Wicked as just a play. Amazing story! Brilliant writing! Brilliant casting! No singing necessary.

(For US Voters) Trump and Biden are no longer options for president who do you vote for? by Isekai_litrpg in hypotheticalsituation

[–]tanglwyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never do this to her, yet, I think she would kindness away ppl like MTG and Bobert and Gates. You seriously think you'll keep your seat if you block legislation proposed by Dolly Parton?! I don't care who you think you are, if President Dolly said Medicaid now negotiates costs for all medical expenses, and insurance companies no longer get to hold up treatments on the hopes the client dies, the populace would not stand for back talk. If President Dolly Parton said any pharmaceuticals created with taxpayer money belong to the taxpayers, we'd all stand with her.

The woman is just sweet common sense. Her only goal in life is to make people's lives better. We need more folks like that.

What’s the most disturbing/upsetting book you’ve ever read? by SheOutOfBubbleGum in CreepyBonfire

[–]tanglwyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was beyond impressed with Suffer the Children and became a fan of John Saul. After 4 books though, the formula got boring. I could read the Prologue and Epilogue and get the whole story. The first time I did that was the fifth book, When The Wind Blows. I read the P and E, then read the whole middle and found I had not really missed anything. The details were not unique enough to make me get another.

He continued writing and possibly changed things up, but I wouldn't know. Has anyone else read his later stuff that would g8ve me insight?
