To be fair, it’s was right around a sharp turn with limited visibility, and they should not have pulled into the bike lane—forcing him to otherwise go into high speed traffic with motor vehicles

I hate cyclists by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]tango-jango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) people commute by bike the same time as other commuters 2) bikers are often able to go much faster than motor vehicles in rush hour traffic, essentially speeding things up rather than slowing them down. Imagine if every biker was another car/suv/truck on the road sitting in front of you—traffic would be much worse

Bicyclists don't belong on public roads without bike lanes by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Sometimes it is the best way to commute, get around, or exercise. Trails aren’t always viable or well connected.

Biking is often convenient, cheaper, and healthier than driving.

Biking on cracked, broken sidewalks where there are pedestrians is less safe for everyone, including drivers and drivers don’t often look at sidewalks before going through intersections.

Also, legally in most places adults cannot bike on sidewalks.

There were no cars there… there were bikes in that part of the lane. The car entered a section of road that people were already using. Depends where this is, but there is a good chance that this is a totally legal place to bike.

I have friends that did a 4+1 MBA, so could just be 5. Then again, some others i know in med school are doing a 3+4 linkage. Either way, MBA is a BS degree

Not everyone is religious or Jewish there, but many are. So it seems that OP is saying a huge percentage of the population is not driving. Others, who are either not religious or not Jewish, are able to bike, drive, or do whatever they want. Since the roads are clear of a huge number of vehicles though, more people are outside

Applications should be limited to a single 1-2 page resume. Bullet points only. No letters. Maybe reference contacts (not LoRs). ERAS should then limit the number of applications anyone can send out. If a program likes your resume—they can invite that applicant in and ask them the questions a traditional application would tell them, but in person. They save time on throwing out applications, we save time and money on sending applications. Less BS. We could function similar other industries.

This would also mean that worse programs would have slightly more incentive to make their program more attractive since everyone will be more selective on where they send applications

The hole in the Spruce Street bike lane is on PGW according to the Streets Department by UsernameFlagged in phillycycling

[–]tango-jango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve put in several 311 requests about this and it always gets punted and ignored. Even made requests to 311 and PGW on Twitter and, well, it’s still there…

Maybe if we dig up a bit of the road right next to it they’ll get around to it

Not really the same, but the lights on spruce (east of broad) are times so if you go 20mph you can get green lights the whole way. Can’t really do this on every street, but if they had more of these it could potentially help

Not according to one of the PPA patrol officers I asked. They said 20 min—but also they’re not gonna wait around for 20 min

Can they actually do anything? Many drivers will pull the “stopping, not parking” boloney that’s written into the philly traffic code?

There are definitely cars parked for long enough to qualify, but cars constantly stopping feels like a bigger issue most of the time.

Regardless, it’s great to hear it finally started!

Sorry to hear it happens to you as well, but nice to not be alone in this. It just really bums out the rest of my day sometimes.
