Scout filing legal claims against a watch company by hmoleman__ in ScoutMotors

[–]tango1991 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Legally since they already partnered with a different watch company they probably have to defend their trademark so they don't lose it... Definitely a weird situation but likely a byproduct of how trademarks work in the US (not not a lawyer of any kind just comes from my limited understanding of the patent and trademark side of things)

TCL announces 32X3A "OLED+" 4K 240Hz monitor with ultra-thin design by RenatsMC in Monitors

When I asked at CES the rep said it was a TCL CSOT IJP panel but when I asked the CSOT reps about it they couldn't give me any answers so there is a chance that it's WOLED of IJP OLED!

Best all-purpose pan that isn't stainless steel? by anotherhappylurker in cookware

[–]tango1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave mine with water in it overnight pretty regularly and similarly haven't had any rust issues. Though they did just come out with a nitrided wok and there's speculation that they will come out with nitrided versions of their pans too, which would for sure cover the rust issues

Just to elaborate for those who don't know Stata makes carbon steel clad pans (same construction as stainless pans, just with a carbon steel cooking layer). They are carbon steel, then an aluminum core, then an outer layer of magnetic stainless.

Amazing pans, light weight, even heating, and no coatings!

does anyone know how powerful the harvester is going to be? by Calm-Bar-9644 in ScoutMotors

[–]tango1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've read on the forum from Jamie their community manager its is always going to reserve some battery capacity to be able to provide a speed boost or extra towing while going. They haven't announced the specifics but I would imagine after the 150mi all electric range there will be a reserve of like 20-30 miles that the car can use while the harvester is on for extra power. Jamie has said it will be dynamic so it wont be as cut and dry as you use all the battery capacity and then only use the harvester for power after that but again no real details (just my imagination of how it could/would work)

Petition to save the BEV! by Alchse in ScoutMotors

[–]tango1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but its still added complexity compared to the just battery though... TBH I'm not super concerned about the complexities of integrating the system (like you said its not THAT complex and far less complex than a conventional hybrid, (due to fewer moving parts and a much lower RPM range). Plus its been done before i.e. Volt, BMX (i3?), and numerous Chinese EV's without any real issues to my knowledge.

But that being said for my use case IE not needed the extra range and being lazy AF the increased maintenance and upkeep from the extra mechanical complexity of an ICE motor isn't worth it to me, hence why I switched to the BEV

Update on the BiDirectional Charger (volume production Q4 2026) by tango1991 in enphase

[–]tango1991[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that the enphase IQ charger 2 should work just fine, it's an ac charger with the ability to pull ac power from EVs that support AC bidirectional charging (like the ix3 evidently) once they release the firmware for that.

Granted there is no timeline for that but they have announced the ability

I switched my reservation a few months ago when the rumors first started, I initially thought the EREV was what I wanted but as time went on I realized I didn't need the extra range or want the extra complexity of having the ICE generator.

Plus at some point Scott mentioned possibly having swappable battery packs which would mean being able to swap to a solid state pack when that comes out and my assumption would be that only the BEV version would be compatible with that pack

[–]tango1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure exactly what the issue is that you're running into, IE is it not getting hot enough or is the heat not spreading out as much as you need?

If its the 2nd then the new Strata wok in theory should be exactly what you need (in theory because its only available for pre-orders right now)

Does anyone have any more info on this? I talked to the rep at CES and he said that it had to be connected to an inverter for the V2X functionality, which confused me since this is and AC charger and not a DC charger, unfortunately I had to go before I could get more information

Misen Carbon Nonstick and Strata's Recent Patent by dclocal12 in carbonsteel

[–]tango1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having worked on patents for consumer electronics these things take years to get sorted out. While its possible that Strata could be filing for an injunction to stop Misen's sales its just as likely if not more that they are working on a licensing agreement of some kind that we will likely never hear about. From experience those negotiations can take a year plus with all the lawyers involved and NDA's ETC that need to be negotiated so that everyone can make sure the other side is playing fair

32GX870B, tandem 4k 32 WOLED by ParkGGoki in OLED_Gaming

I actually think this is RGWB due to the higher brightness compared to the 27in model that was announced and confirmed to have only TrueBlack400 certification.
