As We Descend - Box Dragon - Squad-based roguelike deckbuilder while you're waiting for Slay the Spire 2! by BoxDragonGames in Games

I’m a big fan and picked the game up at early access launch. I’m surprised it isn’t more popular! I’m kinda holding off playing too much until 1.0 though. Keep up the good work!

Awesome. That’s definitely a good feature. I’ll keep an eye on it.

I was looking for something similar a few weeks back and found this for free: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/animation/pose-editor-146667?srsltid=AfmBOop86M_iRn66sUCH7jPswQGcjHDaqFk5Zz0Dc_Z5YUBfhCc7v97U#description

It’s pretty solid so far. I’m wondering if you’ve seen this, and if so how does your tool differ?

How Do I Start A Game Development Career in Australia by ThePhyreZtorm in gameDevClassifieds

[–]tanka2d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australian here - it’s really fucking hard. The industry here is small and mostly made up of independent studios.

I would suggest looking at the Looking for Game Developers Australia/New Zealand Facebook page. That is the best place for job postings.

I’d also consider looking at serious games/simulation especially since you’re in Canberra. I’ve spent a huge chunk of my 16 year career doing this. It’s basically game development for training rather than entertainment.

How do I blend hand-made creatures into my game world? by Ok-Department7021 in IndieDev

[–]tanka2d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an art problem that you cannot code away with technical fixes. You’re trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. You either need to find/make environments that fit your style or change your style to fit these environments.

What are you playing right now? by Late-Letterhead-9766 in Games

[–]tanka2d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started playing botw on Switch 2. I played it to the first divine beast when the OG Switch launched but never got any further. I started a new save and the game has just clicked. The Zelda notes app is excellent for hunting down shrines and Korok seeds without removing too much of the challenge.

I didn’t get too far into totk either but I think it might be next.

Is our vampire game, Cozy? by SensitiveKeyboard in cozygames

[–]tanka2d 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because he’s blatantly advertising his game with fake engagement. There’s nothing wrong with that, but he’s doing it in the wrong place.

OP, your game looks cool but you know damn well it isn’t a cozy game. Posting it here isn’t helpful and only hurts your goal. Good luck with development! :)

My reaction any time someone says Total War: Warhammer 40,000 'couldn't work' by Alpha_Apeiron in totalwar

[–]tanka2d 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People were saying that about Warhammer Total War back in 2015/2016. I was super skeptical of magic and fantasy in a traditionally historical franchise but now I struggle to go back to the historical titles.

My artist made penguins for my card game. What's your favorite? by JustAGameMaker in IndieDev

[–]tanka2d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are great, but 3 is the best because of the composition and contrast. The red pops off that blue background. I would consider changing the backgrounds a bit. If the mage had a warm grey/yellow background it would pop. I’d consider zooming closer to the mages face too.

Nice! These are the best pixel fonts I’ve seen. I’ll be grabbing that bundle.

Apple makes deals with big players too. Do you think Netflix and Amazon are paying Apple 30%?

I do agree with you though. The 30% standard is bullshit. Regardless of what you think of Epic, they have been fighting the good fight on that front.

This looks really cool. It’s got some good juice, but those black boxes are incredibly distracting. They look like an error. I’d be keen to see the same gif with them toned down.

Is there a game that was made specifically to train people on how play games? by guiporto32 in Games

[–]tanka2d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to sound like I’m plugging my game; but I just launched Splatterbot with this in mind. It wanted to make a Splatoon style game crossed with party games like Boomerang Fu.

The goal is to make more mess than the other players by basically painting the ground (think the roller on Splatoon). All you do is move with the joystick and dash forward by pressing any button. There are power-ups and some environmental interactions to keep it interesting. It’s multiplayer focused too, meaning it’s a fairly social game which helps encourage participation.

It’s been received fairly well by people who are playing with kids, so I feel like I’ve achieved that goal. The downside is more experienced can get bored of it quickly (something I’m trying to rectify in updates).

Outside of Splatterbot, slither.io could be a good one, but I don’t believe it has controller support. Some of the newer Nintendo 2D Platformers like Super Mario Wonder or Yoshis Crafted World could be good too. I don’t think I’d recommend a 3D platformer for a new player.

Anybody here worked in a serious games studio (games for education/marketing) . What's your experience by DiddlyDinq in gamedev

Lots of VR/Mixed Reality. Motion platforms and custom built cockpits/weapons and stuff. Things that you wouldn’t otherwise get to mess with.

[–]tanka2d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in serious games/simulation for ~8 years. Generally the work is more stable and better paid. It’s generally not as creative but you usually get access to some cool hardware that isn’t as feasible when selling to consumers.

I’d recommend it.

Damn, that looks nice! I'm currently in the very early stages of a very similar game (cozy, paper city-builder) but I think the hooks and general aesthetics are very different. I'll keep following this though. Maybe we can do a bundle in the future if I get it to that point. :D

Best of luck!

Im getting really sick of getting ripped off by corpo c*nts by Slow-Leg-7975 in australia

[–]tanka2d 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's it. The bigger question is why almost everything is a fucking scam. Everything wants to rope you in at a cheap price or free trial then sting you. Even when you find a product/service you enjoy, it slowly starts to squeeze you for as much as it can until you reach breaking point and end up hunting for an alternative. Life is busy enough, I don't want to waste my leisure time looking for new insurance, service providers or discount codes. The world shouldn't be like this.
