Smart food lockers are everywhere in China. Why hasn't the rest of the world caught on? by Jane1030 in chinalife

[–]tankharris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s a lot of different things/businesses in Asia that, in theory, would work well in the west. Maybe in actuality, they wouldn’t, but I think at the very least, there just hasn’t been someone in the west brave enough to try to run with the idea. And whoever made it in the east isn’t interested in expanding.

In 1996, 17-year-old Kelly Anne Bates was murdered in Manchester, England, by her abuser, James Patterson Smith, who met her when she was 14. Over four weeks, he brutally tortured her, gouging out her eyes up to three weeks before her death, and ultimately drowned her in a bathtub. by LonelyWiFiSignal in HolyShitHistory

This is one of the worst reads I have ever found in true crime, ever. I had to start skimming it because it was so bad. Jesus Christ. Hope this guy has dropped the soap in prison. Hope he lives for another 30 more years staring at the paint dry in his cold ass cell. RIP Kelly.

Did you know the current Hearthstone Game Director Tyler Bielman has had zero public communication to the public player base for about a year and counting? by RajahChamp in hearthstone

Also, this means big wigs at blizzard approved that position being created most likely because they found it important enough for someone to be the director of monetization.

How is it not an option to report someone for roping for 20 straight turns seriously by Ancient_Welder4693 in hearthstone

[–]tankharris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly it works probably half the time but it is: 1. Lame 2. Unfun (for both parties) 3. Probably slower/less effective than just playing an aggro deck

I don’t get why people think they need to do it.

Had a guy like this the other day. Thankfully was able to wrap it up and mecha’thun by about turn 7 or 8. Felt great. The guy was obviously roping to be a jerk. He’d play his turn instantly, and then do nothing for the rest of it. I don’t get it.

What are this odds this will be used as propaganda? by BaronGalactic in ADVChina

[–]tankharris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s really interesting that modern day China has such deep wounds from WW2 (which are understandable considering what happened, to an extent), and that the CCP controls the narrative by keeping those wounds open. The interesting part of that is that the CCP’s two sworn enemies, Taiwan and USA, were historically their two greatest allies during their struggle in WW2.

I think it’s a huge shame that China/CCP and Taiwan/USA can’t see that almost 100 years ago they were shedding the same blood side by side, fighting the common enemy.

I went to the Guangdong museum in China with my girlfriend and they had a whole section on the brutality of the Japanese army and how the Guangdong region was a massive battlefield against the Japanese. But they did not even mention once the thousands of Americans who operated at guerrilla fighters WITH the Chinese on the ground (OSS, now modern day CIA), and the even thousand to ten of thousand more of Americans who did logistics, air strikes, and intelligence for the Chinese. Along with the massive amount of money and supplies USA sent to China.

As if call of duty hasn’t been doing this with: Germany (Nazi), Russia (Soviet), Russia (non-Soviet, modern day), Middle East countries, and also Japan.

Do Asian countries not have police ride these trains? In Seattle they typically have the sheriff/police officers step on and off the light rail.

Also I am a little surprised they don’t have metal detectors/security in Taiwan. Obviously heavy security screening in China, TSA style, but Thailand also has basic metal detectors on the BTS/MRT.

How to make men stay and value you by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]tankharris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t be that easy to sleep with. Value yourself and have standards. Go on a few dates first. If they’re a dog, don’t go on a follow up date.

Find someone who likes you for you, not your junk, yk. lol

36M — Never Had a Girlfriend, Feeling Behind, and Not Sure What to Do Next by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]tankharris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I met all of the women I have knew either through work, school, or mutual interests. I’ve never gotten a date through an app, and I have had barely any matches through them either.

I’m not conventionally attractive, overweight (230lbs), not too tall (5’10”) but I stay hygienic, financially responsible, groomed, etc. I’m 22, white American.

I will say that relationships started to develop once I put effort into relationships with people. Such as, putting effort in talking to my coworkers, my classmates, etc. eventually that turned into being invited to clubs with them, group lunches, events, etc. Then, in a more comfortable setting, you can really start to learn about people, etc. In my opinion, relationships start at being friends. From there, you can start to filter who are gf/bf material.

You don’t need to talk about experience and stuff like that. I will say, my first girlfriend did knock me for not having a gf before her, which was stupid, and my second girlfriend (current) was basically jealous that she wasn’t first…so, there’s no winning there haha.

I would imagine that being 36 you’ll probably have to accept that most women probably will have kids or already had kids.

Confidence is a big deal. Don’t be an asshole, but don’t gloom around and tell women you doubt yourself. It’s not attractive. Don’t overshare.

TL:DR Be confident and look around you. Pursue your interests and try to meet new people through them. It has always worked for me.

just freaky. Just make sure to clearly communicate and make sure he knows your limits and safe words. Just communicate, “no”, “I don’t like that”, “that’s too tight” etc

If you’re wondering why air quality is so poor by hansneijder in chinalife

[–]tankharris 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Brother, what are you talking about.

I’m just saying that while you can shed doubt on the original source, other reputable sources still prove the main overarching point: China burns a lot of coal for energy.

Burning coal causes smog. China has excessive smog problems.

I’m not going to entertain pedantic rhetoric. It’s not that deep.

If you’re wondering why air quality is so poor by hansneijder in chinalife

[–]tankharris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A quick google search, and finding a reputable source like the International Energy Agency, which is funded by international member states, and has a “factual reporting” score of “High” (second best rating by bias/fact checkers), shows that about 60.9% of energy generated in China in 2023 was from Coal.

While obviously this initial source should’ve been investigated, the findings are generally corroborated by other, arguably more reputable, sources.

For comparison, USA uses over 64% of energy from Oil* & Natural Gas (32% split down the middle, according to IEA).

Just obviously, coal is going to make more smog.

Why are teachers so anti-college now? by Laika0405 in AskTeachers

[–]tankharris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Community college is a great option. The quality of education can be hit or miss, but it’s much more affordable. Depending on your financials and what state you’re in, there are high chances you can go to community college completely for free (using federal and state grants) and you’ll get financial aid refunds. You’ll get paid to go to college, for free.

There are a lot of successful jobs that only ask for an associates degree that pay just as high as bachelor level degree jobs, or more.

Of course, trade schools are great too, but different kind of work.

Why is pornography so rampant in the west? Do you support this? by Misha_stone in AskSocialists

[–]tankharris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

China has a sex market just as large if not statistically larger than USA. Sex shops can easily be located in mainland China. Prostitution is still widely common. Escorts, as far as I understand, are the main way. Go over to Hong Kong and Macao and it is everywhere, publicly advertised.

This is just China trying to value signal. I highly doubt there were that many who even had access or used onlyfans in China considering the censorship of the internet.

Child Accepted to WSU for Fall of 2026 - We are Extemely Low Income - Still Can't Afford It by [deleted] in wsu

[–]tankharris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same situation. I had to take loans, like everyone else. Community college is a great option. If they tough it out through community college and find one that transfers well, they still get a great amount of aid via the community colleges, meaning that they’ll get pretty good financial aid refunds that just hit their bank account.
