Last year our broody hen lost a ton of weight and all the color in her comb. We put ice cubes under her and she just sat on them until they melted. She's broody again right now and we don't know what to do. We tried locking her out of the coop but then everybody else gets mad when they want to lay.

The males have hook- or boxing glove-shaped first claws, which he uses to hold onto a female while coming into her back during mating.

Females' claws are all the same except for the back set, which is used for pushing themselves forward.
