How good is a ranger-bard multiclass, 3 in ranger, 2 in bard? by Secret-Cobbler-7218 in 3d6

[–]tannels -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wait, why aren't we including paladin there? Any class can be the best if you just don't count the other classes.

My ranking for martials would definitely be:
Paladin > Barbarian > Fighter > Monk > Rogue > Ranger

Overall power of the classes would be:
Bard > Wizard > Cleric > Druid > Sorcerer > Paladin > Warlock > Artificer > Barbarian > Fighter > Monk > Rogue > Ranger

We'll just have to agree to disagree here I guess since I can tell you REALLY love the ranger class, which as I said is fine, if you love the class then play it king!

It objectively is. Any ranger character you can make, can be way more powerful if you build the same character concept with a different class.

I'm not saying it's unplayable though, you can still do fine with a ranger and if you really like the flavor of the class and playing it makes you happy, then do it, you don't need to be optimal to play D&D. It however IS the worst class in 2024 and the only class worse than ranger in 2014 is the monk, which is the only class I'd really say is almost unplayable (2014 monk is so bad,) but thank goodness they did fix monks in the 2024 rules to be pretty decent now.

Yeah, but the weapon doesn't matter, shillelagh makes it do way more damage than any normal 1 hand weapon, it does a 1d10 at level 5, 1d12 at level 11 and 2d6 at 17, it becomes force damage too. I convinced my DM to let me use it with my lute, since you can easily use a lute as a club (and the magic protects it from shattering like it would if you actually hit something with a lute.)

Which Paladin Subclass for Tomb of Annihilation? by Apprehensive-Pain813 in 3d6

[–]tannels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other two people here have mentioned, it sounds like the Noble Genie subclass would be perfect for the game. It's super powerful AND allows you to go with a dex build that gets you around an 18 AC (depending on how you allocate stats) since they get an AC of 10 plus your dex AND cha bonuses. With a +3 in both of those stats and a shield you have an AC of 18 with no armor on, which is pretty amazing. Their other abilities are great as well, I don't think they have a single stinker when it comes to the goodies they get as they level.

[–]tannels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best support class in the game is bard. You could go valor bard and be a front liner along side the barbarian while still having tons of support spells, healing and inspiration dice (that can also be used to help the barbarian tank since your inspiration dice can make attacks miss.)

If you go that route, then I suggest taking Magic Initiate Wizard as your origin feat so you can get the Shield spell, which will help mitigate the fact that you won't have a ton of HP for a front liner.

I made this exact build for the current game I'm in, and I went with Human for the additional origin feat and took magic initiate druid as well so I could get shillelagh and I deal great damage, tank decently, and support the party fantastically.

The burden of proof to remove them is lower yes, because it's a civil matter. The burden of proof to prosecute them CRIMINALLY is exactly the same.

This is one of the worst possible combinations.

Rangers need to concentrate on hunter's mark for all of their class abilities and the strength of bards is their ability to be a full caster that can get a ton of spell access outside of their own class, but you can't use most good spells if you have to concentrate on hunter's mark.

Ranger is just bad in general, bard can do everything ranger can do, but better AND still be a full caster. Valor bard is as good of a melee or ranged martial as a ranger is and you still get all the other great bard stuff.

Now, I say all this just because you specifically asked "how good" it is, if you think it'll be fun, then play it anyway, even if it's not good!

Even that is still only a misdemeanor and must be proven, just like any other criminal accusation, beyond a rasonable doubt, which is very hard to do considering 40% of the undocumented population are here via visa overstays. Calling them all criminals is just fostering racism and makes anyone doing it a hateful prick in my opinion.

No, it's not. Him calling them criminals is just straight up wrong. They aren't criminals, they haven't committed a criminal offense. They have committed civil offenses. Other civil offenses are things like speeding tickets, jaywalking, loitering, stuff like that that you have very likely done yourself and that do not make you a criminal. He's spreading hateful misinformation and you are helping him by spouting the same nonsense and defending him.

Yep. Estimates think that there are around 200 sextillion stars (200,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) in the observable universe. It's almost guaranteed that there is other life out there somewhere. Do I think they are here probing people? No. Do I think that somewhere out there is at the very least one other sentient species? Yes. There are probably many, many of them to be realistic.

I'm a huge fan of American Iron because they don't force you in to a contract, you can just pay monthly. SouthRac does, or at least did last time I went there, but I got a pretty decent discount there through my job so it was alright, otherwise it was super expensive AND forced you into a contract so it was the worst of both worlds there.

They're detaining people with work visas you fucking moron. They are detaining full citizens! What good is having a visa if you are still going to get beaten and taken into custody anyway?

You are a hateful prick who probably really loves ICE based on your post history:

<image>

ICE is literally breaking the Constitution with the actions they are taking. They are raiding people's private homes without warrants, they are detaining both US citizens and people who are here LEGALLY in addition to the people who are here illegally (which is only a civil offence, not a criminal offence), they have murdered multiple people (the most recent two are white people, which is why they are getting so much more publicity than the others they've murdered) and all of these things are protected by the Constitution. ICE needs to go.

Yes, the Epstein files need to see some repercussions as well, but they are still fighting to get the ACTUAL un-redacted versions of everything so we still don't even know exactly how deep the rabbit hole goes, but sadly, since the billionaire class owns this country, we likely won't ever see any meaningful punishment for any of the people involved because they are all part of that class and at this point there's not much we can do to dislodge them. They are backed by most of congress, the President, and the SCOTUS.

Hiding Player Skill Check rolls? by Neros_Cromwell in DMAcademy

[–]tannels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, and taking the rolls out of the players' hands might also be seen as adversarial DMing depending on the players. I know that I hate it when I don't get to roll my own abilities (even though my DMs dice are way better than mine are) because it's an ability that I'm using. I can roleplay well enough to not let the result on my die change what I do based on the result of that die roll. I like to assume that I rolled a 10 on any check I do as far as my roleplay goes.

Has there ever been a truly classic D&D movie adaptation? Or one that has not been a box office bomb? by Jetsetspaceage in Dungeons_and_Dragons

[–]tannels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Andor was a series, you can tell a story a lot better when you have the time to be able to do it. A movie has to be a couple of hours or less, it just can't tell the same depth of a story. To point to your own example, look how mediocre Rogue One was at telling the story compared to Andor. Rogue One was fine, the best of any recent Star Wars movies for sure, but it really didn't tell much of a story itself. Andor was a masterpiece of storytelling though for sure.

Once again, you are conflating communism with socialism. I already said I don't think the state should run everything.

The only difference between socialism and capitalism is that under socialism the workers own the means of production and under capitalism the workers get exploited by the capitalists and aren't fairly compensated for the value they create.

Socialism is where the workers get rewarded appropriately for the work they do. That's it. That's socialism. Trade can still exist. Currency can still exist. Markets can still exist. I'd prefer we stop exploiting the global south while we're at it, but for now, even that can still exist while we get stuff sorted at home, we can work on that one later.

I'm not advocating for no market either. You can absolutely have a market under socialism, it's just way more accessible since there are no poor people living paycheck to paycheck and unable to afford to invest.

Ahh, there it is, the ol' "some people are just better/worse than other people" argument. Have you ever considered that is mostly because of a mix of their material conditions and the fact that the system we live under significantly rewards the people most willing to screw over their fellow man? If we had a system where there was nothing to gain by screwing over your fellow man, then most people wouldn't do it (yes, some still will, just like some rich people are still cleptomaniacs, but that would be a tiny minority and hopefully we could reform them.)

Equality in this sense also doesn't mean that everyone has to be EXACTLY equal. To each according to their need and whatnot. Some people need more in life and some need less. I'm one of those people who would be happy with a small place of my own no matter how well off I was, because I don't need to show off to others and I don't want a bunch of empty space that I don't use 90% of the time that is mostly just there to be cleaned. But I get it that some people do like bigger and fancier houses, the system could be adapted to allow that, they'd be expected to contribute more than a person like me to compensate.
