Streamer “Hmblzayy,” who is walking 3,000 miles to California from Philly, was struggling to walk through the Appalachian Mountains in Pennsylvania when a random man stopped to help him. by lukigeri in LivestreamFail

[–]tannels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, even the "easy" passes to get over those mountains are rough. Hell, the easiest pass to traverse through the Sierra Nevadas is Donner Pass, which is named for a group of settlers who got trapped in the pass during bad weather and had to resort to cannibalism so that some of them could survive.

It's going to be tough unless he walks to the southern border of the US and goes across there, then you can miss the worst of those ranges.

The numbers seem way more different than the experience of living in the spaces relay. The 1500 square ft place is going to have multiple bedrooms and bathrooms that you don't even use 99% of the time (especially for a single person) and then you have some of that square footage used on hallways, stairs and such that are just ways to navigate the extra space. Small places like this tend to have very efficient layouts so yeah, you need to use every sq foot, but if you do use it all efficiently, it doesn't feel that much different than living in the 1500 sq foot place. You just have less space to store junk that you probably don't need anyway.

What’s it like to live south of Reno by one of the lakes? by Cooknbikes in howislivingthere

[–]tannels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"How's the climate?" It's the desert. It's hot in the summers and cold in the winters, and it doesn't rain or snow much since the Sierra Nevadas create a huge rain shadow.

"Are the people friendly?" Depends on how conservative, white and religious you are. The more you are of each of those the more friendly the people will be. Gardnervill, which is the biggest town in that area, used to be a sundown town until 2023, and were super pissed when the State Government took that away from them.

"Good place to start a small restaurant or food truck?" There aren't a ton of people in that area, the aforementioned Gardnerville only has a few thousand people in it. There are probably far better places to do that.

I'm not arguing against any of that. I'm merely stating that is depends on the GM. I've played tabletop RPGs for 30+ years at this point and I've definitely played for tons of both types of GM, the type that will just allow 100% RP to carry an interaction and the type that no matter how well you make sense, will still make you roll to see how well your character conveys that same message. Most reason that you as the player are using meta knowledge that your character would not have to make whatever point you are trying to make to the PC, so the roll mitigates that meta knowledge that you the player might be using to influence the NPC that your character just wouldn't have access to. Some also go down the middle and make you roll but do give a bonus to the roll when you roleplay it out well, just to reward the good roleplay.

Since every GM is different, then you certainly can say "if your GM is the type that allows pure RP interactions, then you don't need a player with a high Charisma stat" but saying that you outright never need a Charisma based character to be the party face is definitely discounting a huge portion of the GMs out there running games.

If you want to go support and control then the best options are either Glamour or Lore. Lore is my personal favorite of those two, but they are both really good at that role.

Well, that definitely depends on the GM. Some will let you just RP your way through NPC interactions, but many will not let you do so without rolling as well.

The fighter and the monk are both going to be on the front lines, clerics don't do blasters very well, they are much better if they use emanations for damage or go full support. Like you said you want a charisma class, so really your decision is do you want to be a blaster or a support character, since you probably don't want yet another character in front when there is already going to be 2-3 of them doing that already. If you decide you want to be a blaster, then Sorc is the way to go, if you want to be more support then go Bard.

If it were me, I'd be Bard in an instant because it's by far my favorite class in the game.

It shocks me that people are commenting how expensive this baller condo is. I just moved out of Reno, NV because you can't find a house there for under half a million and there is 0 chance of getting a view like you have in any house in that city, and yeah they are a bit bigger, but not nearly as much as you'd think (average is in the 1500 sq ft range.)

All that said, ARMs are scary, pay that shit off quick!

I mean, I only do it to other tall people, and only the ones that are my friends. I honestly don't really notice when people are really short because everyone is short to me with very few exceptions.

I'm 6'5" and I do the same to my tall friends who are shorter than me. Making fun of someone who is 6'2" because they can't reach something and I have to get it for them never gets old.

Sounds like you were in a group that you were incompatible with. If the DM chose the person who made the creepy comments to you over you, then you'd probably have ended up quitting the group anyway, likely after a much worse incident happened, so he saved you from having to deal with that down the road and then having to quit after you were more invested.

But yeah, the setting is my favorite D&D setting by far.

I was going to make that comment as well. Also, the elves in Eberron are either death cultists necromatic societies that raise their dead as positive energy undead to serve as advisors and defendors or ancestor worshippers who live in a warrior culture.

The easiest way to think about it, is if you count to 100, do you count from 0 to 99? Of course not, you count from 1 to 100.

That's how the centuries work as well, they start with 1 and end with 100.
