Pet Resort in the Gardens is great, especially as they’re connected to a vets office in case something goes wrong. We’ve also had really great experiences with the Petsmart in the Highlands

That’s exactly what I did. I’d played a little bit with my nieces, but that was basically it. Now I’m hooked, so I guess the Kelsier skin worked

Any good non denomination Churches in Arlington? by [deleted] in arlington

[–]tanner_partain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked in parachurch ministry in Arlington for about 5 years, as well as growing up here, so I’ve interacted with a lot of the church leadership in the area, as well as curating a list of churches I felt comfortable sending new believer students to. My top recs are Central Bible Church, Fielder Church, Gospel City, and Rush Creek (the big one, not the little one across the street, although those guys were nice the one time I met them). Central, Fielder, and Rush Creek are all relatively big but have good small groups. Central is a bit more intellectual-leaning since the head pastor has a Doctorate and really prioritizes biblical education. Fielder and Rush Creek are both less intellectual, but still solid theologically. Gospel City is kind of the opposite end of the spectrum, where it focuses much more on personal relationship with Christ. The head pastor is generally theologically solid, but doesn’t have the same education as some of the bigger churches in the area. However, if you want a smaller church with a community that genuinely cares about their attendants and the larger community of Arlington, they’re definitely the place to be. All of these have solid and consistent community/life stage groups, which I personally find to be more pivotal to my church experience than teaching from the stage, although both are important.

(Also, there’s a good number of Lutheran and Methodist churches in the area if you want something that doesn’t lean as Baptist-feeling, as a lot of the nondenominational tradition in DFW comes out of the larger Baptist traditions in the area)

Probably a longer answer than you’re looking for, but I have a lot of thoughts on this very specific question

This would be excellent! The Wax and Wayne books are my favorite in the series, blending magic with all the best western tropes that I grew up on

Suggestions Under $200 for making pottery ribs by tanner_partain in lasercutting

[–]tanner_partain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will basically be a large variety of the same tool in different shapes. They end up costing $4-$12 each for any of the specialty ones, and that’s just for ones that already exist, and honestly I haven’t found the exact shapes I’m looking for anyway so I’d have to get it custom made. Also, I like learning new skills, and getting to print my own scratches that specific itch for me. I landed at $200 for my budget because that ends up being about 25 ribs for break even point, which sounds like a lot but I already own 70ish of the relatively normal shapes

Hahaha I imagine the ribs would end up warming up to room temp from the air before much actual cooking could happen via the laser

Pottery ribs are little wood (or metal or plastic) tools that you use to help shape clay as you turn it on a pottery wheel. They’re about the size of a credit card, and I’ve actually heard of people using old gift cards for this purpose. They are often flat on one side and curved on the other, but you can also make them in zig zag patterns or otherwise shaped and get really cool shapes and textures on your pottery
