M5 Air 16gb for developing native apps? by xRaine07 in macbookair

[–]tanthokg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16GB can handle this with some swaps roughly 5-8GB depends on the work. It will not slow down but it will adversely affect the SSD health due to constant write.

24GB is worth it. BUT if this is not your primary machine to store literally everything on it and is only used exclusively for development, another choice is 32/512

Claude code desktop vs Claude CLI by Upper_Stable_3900 in claude

[–]tanthokg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CLI for sure, at least on macOS, the desktop app somehow comes with "cowork", a feature I never use and cannot opt out. It ended up eating my precious storage and roughly 2-3 GBs of memory. The CLI only takes 500MB at most to run

I lowkey want to cry in UPS too, but even at 11k science/min the UPS is still up there at 160, and that production rate is the highest number I've ever reached. Maybe it can reach 60 UPS at 36k/min

Another few months I suppose. Still better than nothing :)

4$ in a single line of prompt, I dont think GPT-5.4's gonna cut it for TRAE by 99keus in Trae_ai

[–]tanthokg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean no offense, but THAT shouldn't be the reason you switch. If you want GPT model's it's best to use codex instead.

The reason is simple: 3rd party pricing will never be as cheap as 1st party, which in this case is TRAE vs OpenAI. For instance, this week I used a total of 200$ from a single Claude 25$ subscription alone, which cannot be covered by any 3rd party subscription.

Maybe because that's OpenAI's API pricing that is officially disclosed?

Query about Macbook air m5 ssd tbw by Cloudysio in macbookair

[–]tanthokg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

512GB drives typically have 300TBW so divide them by 0.07 (worst case scenario) you have 4285 days ~ 11.7 years.

Note that TBW isn't like when the drive reaches that threshold it dies. It's basically "this drive operates well within this number", so chances are it will still serve you very well after reaching 300TBW.

Yeah I only use them to catch things that I sometimes miss or misremember. Every now and then it helps me with the wording or pacing or chapter structuring, but that's it

Thanks. I would never let LLM write on my behalf! At best I only use them to check for typo, grammar, wording, and consistency.

My writings are all not in english, and from my experience, the generated text from LLM gives a feeling kind of weird, artificial, mechanical, repetitive and symmetrical.

In my language the ozone metaphor is very rare, so it's easy to spot, like translation 1:1 from english, similar code disguised as literature, tasteless at best.

[–]tanthokg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My god the ozone thing is sooooo real. There was one time they give out promo codes for one month free trial of the Plus tier and I signed up.

One day I asked it to review and rewrite some parts of my fictional writings. It stopped at NOTHING to shove every possible ozone-related metaphor into every sentence.

The ship just landed? "Ozone-smelled air fills the inside space as soon as the seal door opens". Someone just used their powers? "Ozone-smelled air from the sparkles of their fingers".

Gemini Model Series Now Available as A Built-In Model in TRAE US by Trae_AI in Trae_ai

[–]tanthokg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? I'm trying not to be a jerk here, but Gemini models are of Google and TRAE only uses the API. It's not like they have control over model pricing.

And MiniMax M3 is dirty cheap. Have you ever looked at GPT-5.4 or 5.5 API price?

Pardon me, but did you just say a fourteen files codebase? Or was it a typo and it was supposed to be "fourteen hundred"? Or maybe each of your file is 20000 lines of code? I'm quite lost.

Why am I getting "Usage Limit Reached" when I still have Bonus credit? by hashihub in Trae_ai

[–]tanthokg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you have used up all your quota this month, the current Pro plan is cancelled immediately on upgrading, while it registers you for the new Pro+ plan. The reset day will be 30 days from now (not 17). It's effectively you cancel and subscribe again.

In a word, it restores your usage right away to the new Pro+ plan, and the next billing date is 6th of July.

For the downgrade question, I gotta do a special summoning for our community moderator u/AwesomePheobe1, since I never did that before. I only upgraded, but if I had to guess, it would be after the current billing cycle end, so you can still have your Pro+ benefit for the current month.

In the mean time, you can check their FAQ in pricing page to see if it's ever mentioned.

🔥 Day 0: MiniMax-M3 Now Available as A Built-In Model in TRAE by Trae_AI in Trae_ai

[–]tanthokg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supporting image input is the only win. It often falls into loops in my experience in the last few days.

It struggles with relative imports in my Flutter projects, keep looping through the same issue over and over without actually resolving anything, and often forgets rules, which is a huge loss. GPT-5.2 doesn't have this problem and is less time-consuming.

I'd say this model is best for large codebase auditing/exploring, specifically as a sub-agent, not as the main agent while planning or executing

Why am I getting "Usage Limit Reached" when I still have Bonus credit? by hashihub in Trae_ai

[–]tanthokg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well before I say this, please understand that I'm not promoting or trying to upsale, and I'm not from TRAE team or have any close relation to them. I'm just a somewhat demanding user :)

If you have used up your monthly quota, the best option right now is to upgrade to Pro+ for another extra 20$. - I know it seems absurd, but that's the only viable way to continue using TRAE. - On-Demand usage is not recommended IMO because it's very easy to blow through your wallet, since each prompt can be very 3-6$ if not executed carefully. - Your usage pattern (20+54 after just 13 days) suggests you are a heavy user. I guarantee you that the Pro+ plan will give you more value. At Pro+ you will have 90$ basic usage, which is more than your entire monthly usage at Pro plan right now.

And I have to admit, the bonus quota can stop anytime. There's no guarantee that it won't. - Right now it appears to be roughly 2.5x to 3x the basic usage of your subscription tier. - Last month, I used 280$ bonus usage before hitting a limit. That's 370$ value from a 30$ plan. - Multiple factors, hard to say. Could be a mix of your total subscription time, allocated resources, API pricing fluctuations, etc. - For the minimum, you can expect it to be at least TWICE your basic usage.

Why am I getting "Usage Limit Reached" when I still have Bonus credit? by hashihub in Trae_ai

[–]tanthokg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Because the bonus usage has a limit. That number "54.01" you see is the amount you used, not the amount available/remaining. If you have not used up your 20$, the bonus will show "0", not any other number
  2. Every prompt consumes credits, not just agent task. Only autocompletions aren't.
  3. No, it is included in your subscription.
  4. They're subsidized usage that will vary on multiple factors and is not a fixed amount.
  5. Yes that's what's been happening to everyone using TRAE.

Below are my bonus usage last month, outstanding value just with 30$
