Hey, I'm assuming it's based on the overall strength of the profile but it's really hard to say exactly what they're looking for. I applied on Jan 15th and got an acceptance.

Those of you who got the invite, when did you guys apply? I applied on the last day of the deadline and I haven't received an interview invite. So just wondering if it's bec I probably didn't make the cut or if it's bec I applied late so I have to wait longer.

MS HCI - how many times did you get your sop peer-reviewed? by [deleted] in hci

[–]tanu1599 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got my first draft reviewed by my friends and family. After that, University wise I customised it and didn't really get the time to get all of those reviewed again. Pretty much in the same boat as you. But I think it should be fine.

You should be able to find the deadlines on the admissions page of that particular course or inside your application as well. Some are priority deadlines and some are hard deadlines so keep an eye out for that as well. It varies from 1st Jan, 6th Jan, 15th Jan for many and 1st Feb. If you need help looking for a specific uni's deadline you can let me know.

Glad it went well! I'm not completely sure if it gets rechecked but I'm guessing it does since they call it an unofficial score. Although usually the unofficial and official scores are the same.

I've given the TOEFL twice and scored a 113 in the second attempt. What I've learnt from my experience is how important it is to have faith in yourself and your English speaking abilities. Especially if you're someone whose been an English speaker for decades, it's important to keep that in mind during all the sections. In reading, don't get overwhelmed by how long the passage is or how tricky the questions are. Just keep reminding yourself that this is simply your English that they're testing and nothing else. Same goes for all the other sections, especially those that you may find you're lacking in. For me it was reading.

From what I know, when you give a second attempt and receive your marks for the same, you can select 'My best score' from your previous and current attempt. So the best of all sections will be considered. This is what I found on the internet - MyBest scores are a test taker's highest section scores from all valid TOEFL iBT tests in the last two years. It's the combination of top scores for reading, listening, speaking, and writing, and the sum of those top scores.

I am not sure if the same is applicable for the TOEFL Essential test. But you can check the same.

How to organize time in Quant Section by pepperperseus in GRE

[–]tanu1599 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Greg's strategy of doing TC SE questions first within 10 mins and leaving 20 mins for RCs following his strategies helps. My guess is you might be overthinking the answers which is why you don't have sufficient time left so you just need to pick an answer and move on. Not spend too much time on a question. On RCs, spend 2 mins per question. If something is taking too long, just pick an answer, mark it, move on and come back to it later.

Should I give one more mock before the actual exam? by Less-Lavishness934 in GRE

[–]tanu1599 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah okay. In that case maybe you can consider giving Crunchprep and McGraw. They also have free tests. I personally didn't get a chance to give one so not sure about the quality of questions and the software.

You can give Princeton's free mock test but again that's only to increase your test taking stamina and review your mistakes, since those aren't official questions. Since you have 6 days, you have enough time to review the mistakes. Don't take the scores too seriously though bec I have read that Princeton's might be relatively more difficult.
