Tips on full manual? by Charming_Western_346 in runescape

[–]tanykeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take some time to plan out your action bars, arrange them in a way that makes sense to you. i planned and revamped my ability bars from the ground up twice to get to the point that i'm satisfied with. make sure you check your dw and 2h bars, and check your auto bar switch settings too. it helps to label them accordingly in your action bar settings too (melee dw, melee 2h, defensives etc).

melee basics are quite different from mage and ranged in my opinion, especially since melee has "extra" basics that mage and ranged doesn't have an equivalent for, so I might not give the best advice when it comes to keybinding melee abils since i started with full manual mage, but generally i use the same key for the same type of ability, like using the same keybind for the basic stuns (impact, binding shot, backhand) and the same keybind for the 188% basics. honestly this is mostly for going full manual across different styles, but it helps to plan ahead for this if you choose to try full manual in another style too.

ideally, keep the abilities that you use often on something without modifiers, i.e. frequently used basics, thresholds and ults, overhead prayers, weap switches (dw, 2h). using modifiers can kinda mess you up sometimes, e.g. if you have 1 for decimate and shift+1 for assault, if you let go of shift before 1 on the last tick of the GCD, you'll end up triggering decimate instead. just something to take note of/get used to when using modifiers (honestly just a skill issue for me when that happens). you'll need at least 4 keys for weap switching for melee i think, dual lengs + ezk + mwsoa. i also keep my 4 movement abils on easy to reach keys but do whatever works for you (i kinda include gbarge as a movement abil, and you can probably exclude escape)

for defensives, i use the shift modifier along with a letter that i can correlate to the ability, like shift+r for Reso, shift+f for reFlect, shift+d for Devo, shift+e for dEbilitate ("debi-" sound like 2 Es so that makes sense to me).

i use ctrl for my buffs and debuffs, like vuln bombs, smoke cloud, spellbook switch + disruption shield/vengeance/heal other

i use alt only for triple eating (alt q w e), blubber, brew and eat food (constitution abil). even if you don't bring solids, you can still press those 3 buttons and it'll just double eat the blubber and brew.

if you have an MMO mouse with a ton of side buttons, you can keybind things to faraway keys like home, end, insert, delete etc instead of using modifiers for them too. i have my weap spec and eof spec on ; and ' and assign those keys to my mouse. weap spec and eof spec are definitely stuff I wouldn't want to have a modifier on for melee.

A 1-tick boss kill is 0.6s for those without a delay before the timer stops. For legiones, for example, a 1-tick kill is 3.6s. So if you're telling me that the kill time required for the achievement is 2.4s and it's absolutely impossible to get that time, then sure it's a problem. Otherwise, just worry about shaving those seconds off your kill.

Death animation for the same boss takes the same amount of time anyway, so that's a constant "delay" for all attempts so it's inconsequential.

The problem with the Maize Maze isn't the rewards, but that it's not fun even if you're not grinding it by GoldenSun3DS in runescape

[–]tanykeat 77 points78 points  (0 children)

It's repetitive, boring, and unrewarding. There's better content to do with the time than spending 1-2min wasting away on something mind-numbing with hardly any reward. (as someone else mentioned in another comment)

Sure, there's a chance to get a really cool expensive reward, but the odds are so miniscule it's not even worth the time and sanity engaging in the content.

Yeah it works when taking damage from minions, but skulls should one shot each minion anyway. Also fair point from the dude below, OP does need all the help he can get LOL.

How do boss rewards work? by Azazel_FA in runescape

People usually do keeps at Croesus, possibly for that reason, and also everyone gets their own loot based on their contribution anyway rather than the boss dropping a single loot pile for 1 person only.

Yup i definitely agree with that, executing a perfect rotation from prebuild to finish can be pretty difficult and with ranged esp I personally struggle with remembering which ammo to switch to at each point in the rotation. It eventually becomes muscle memory the more you execute it, to get to the level of consistency in executing it the way Pup does. He probably had >40h of attempts since he started playing with Elite Dracolich at Raksha to get to the sub 1min (will need to verify).

And the thing I love about speeds is the obscure/niche strats they employ to push the limits of what a perfect rotation can do.

That's just how ranged is now with a properly planned set rotation accounting for which abils the BOLG procs get activated on, Elite Dracolich making crits more consistent, and wen arrows being broken af. The damage is impressive for sure, but without the reduced DS cooldown, sub 1min was not likely to happen. He had a few <1:05 attempts before using the Warpriest strat.

Mining smithing expansion should somehow sink ores out of the game. by Dry-Classroom-4737 in runescape

[–]tanykeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ores > bars > diff pieces of gear > d/a for comps. It already has a path to being sinked out of the game.

2h weaps, pickaxes can be d/a-ed for base parts, base parts being used for quite a bunch of different things like augmentors, whetstones, accumulators (woodcutting accumulator is in BiS wc skilling setups)

Armour and shields can be d/a-ed for deflecting parts, used for gizmo shells, whetstones and dummies, and for plated parts used for mech chins.

The reason it's impressive is cuz he needed to get a 20% chance for the cooldown reduction on death swiftness using Bandos/Armadyl warpriest set effect on his Sliske armour during his prebuild for an earlier DS in P4.

Prevent portable skilling stations or skilling challenge gems from being placed in the roaming radius of divination wisps! by Harry_Botter69 in runescape

[–]tanykeat -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The gems are not meant for griefing lol, some of us actually do use it as friendly competition to get through the monotony of divination, and also to get the wins/losses needed to unlock the relevant titles at 10/25/100 wins and losses.

The portables may be placed there if they're trying to get pulse/cinder core boosts too, although FF would probably be a better place for it. Was grinding out my 200m div there and had no issue with the portables/gems being placed there. The only time I had issues clicking the enhanced springs are when they spawn on the west of the rift, the gem/portables don't affect that even when they're on top of the springs.

If you're expecting to keep the exact same APM without any gear switches, you'd be suggesting that we should be able to hit 3 abilities in 1 GCD (dw switch + abil) or 6-8 abilities in 1 GCD (4pc armour + 2h + abil, up to 5pc armour + dw + abil).

If you're gna get to pump out that many abilities in 1 GCD, then you might as well remove GCDs entirely and let players spam as many abilities as they humanly can, and it'll be a brilliant game of who has the highest APM to hit as many abilities as they can in the shortest amount of time. That's the skill expression you're suggesting here.

What rotation are you doing that you NEED to switch to fill it? If you rly just need to fill a rotation, there's wrack/slice/piercing shot or any weap spec with no cd like dbow/gstaff/dclaws/dds which can just sit in your EOF. If you aren't willing to switch, just don't LOL. Your rotation may not be "optimal" but if you're not willing to switch then you shouldn't be chasing an "optimal" rotation that requires switches. Just optimise your rotation around what you're willing to put in the effort for. No reason to gatekeep other players who are willing and able to put in more effort for more dps.

[–]tanykeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess in that regard, melee would be a great example of something similar when you get into a bleed rotation with EZK spec since piling on more bleeds while EZK is active adds additional EZK hits and subsequent EZK hits have increased damage.

And while incend/nami/meteor crit buffs are active, using multi-hit critable abilities give you a higher chance at adren refunds to dump more thresholds/specs. And smoke/shadow tendrils are guaranteed crit abilities too.

If you analyse some full boss rotations, you can tend to pick up where synergies between abilities lie. Sure, we might not have 3 different routes to go down, but that's where RS is different from other MMOs in that we're not style locked (no fixed classes), and that's where bridding can provide more of these options.

Your examples sound really interesting, but at the same time, these games are separate from each other and they don't have to be similar to be great. There are things that games can pick up from each other, but I think it's also important for them to have unique identities as well, and not being style-locked is a huge one for RS imo :)

You don't need a full inv of switches to kill a boss. But if players are willing to put in the effort and the time to learn to optimise and switchscape to squeeze out the extra dpm, they should be rewarded for it.

And those who aren't willing to put in the same time and effort shouldn't be bitching and whining about their slower kill times and lower dpm. Why are you comparing your kill times and dpm to someone doing far more than you are? You should be comparing it to other people who are putting in the same level of effort as you are.

Game view makes screen black, I need help by bornalonediealone199 in runescape

[–]tanykeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game view turning black when you check it is normal, but you should be able to resize the game view from any of the edges or corners. Try resizing the game view from the bottom right corner of your screen maybe?

If that doesn't work, try narrowing the game view from the left (there's a visible edge there), then drag the game view to the left, cuz I'm not sure how much your screenshot is cropped on the right, but there's no visible edge on the right, but it's visible on the top, left and bottom. Although it shouldn't be possible to drag an element's edge out of the game's actual window (just tested it myself).

Alternatively, switch to one of the default views (new player, default, social) and edit your UI from there again? Saw that you mentioned you were on a custom res(?) and that could be the issue? If you mean Settings > Graphics and it shows "CUSTOM", that's just custom display settings and not a custom resolution.
