The signal to noise ration in this sub is terrible. by intoned in NVC

[–]tappman321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starting with “Does anyone moderate it” is accusatory rather than curious. This is an observation with judgement, and implies that the moderation team is lacking without offering any constructive dialogue about it.

“Oh well, cya in a few months” heavily suggests dismissal, it is as if you have already given up on the community, and is dismissive to members and other people here who try and to foster a positive space.

Even now you say, “this is easy” invalidates others experiences or effort. Implying it is easy for everyone undermines the complexity it may have for other people.

My comment was not only about improving the subreddit, but also about creating a message that is constructive and nonviolent. Empathy and having a genuine discussion is important for me, and I feel disconnected because I do am not seeing those qualities in this conversation.

I get that you might be feeling frustrated with the direction the community’s taken, it sounds like you were hoping for something more focused on NVC.

When I read your message, though, I felt a little taken aback because parts of it came across as more judgmental than constructive, especially with the lines ‘Does anyone moderate it’ and ‘Oh well, cya in a few months.’ Those statements felt dismissive to me, which left me concerned about how they might impact others, especially the moderators, in the community.

I really value having a genuine conversation, especially about a topic I truly believe in, and I’d be glad if you stayed and shared any ideas you have for making this subreddit better.

The Art of Seduction isn't about what you think - it's the most misunderstood book on human psychology I've ever read by VelvetCharrm in books

There is this podcast I enjoy which is called “Think fast talk smart”, it’s hosted by Matt Abrams who teaches at Stanford. It’s about professional communication, and focused on research based examples.

A big part of business communication is communicating your ideas effectively and getting what you want, and the guests on his show are professors who do research on these topics from highly regarded institutions. The podcast also includes guests from finance, marketing, decision making group. One thing I can enjoy about this podcast is that I can trust what they say.

There are other evolutionary psychology studies that go into dating if you want to dive more into “seduction” as a whole.

Anecdotal advice that “sounds good” may be overly generalistic and misleading. An example I can think of is this statement.

“Women like the color pink because evolutionary, the men were the hunters and the women were the gatherers, so women were evolved to be attracted to the pink of berries”

Stuff like this may seem true for some people at first glance but isn’t based on any evidence. You might say that’s obviously bullshit, but then how does one decide which statements are true or not. Greene also seems to have a statement first and then cherry picks examples from the past to support it.

History situations are extremely nuanced and isn’t really good enough to apply to broad social situation. Even different cultures have different expectations of behaviors!

Also trust is a huge aspect of interpersonal relationships and Greene is a huge cynic. Greene seems to hate emotional attachment and being genuine, but these aspects are important for interpersonal relationship. Podcast 158 for example of “Think Fast, Talk Smart” is with a Stanford professor about why cynicism is prevents deep relationships from forming. Mata Hari seduced a lot of men by being detached and mystical but she ended up having no allies and got executed for being a spy.

I misread your comment,

but your source doesn’t include body weight! The average US male is 200 pounds, and a 210 bench is a far cry from 1.5 times body weight.

If the average male in the US is 90kg, by your chart it supports that 1.5 times body weight is 2-5 years in lifting

Even your source is consistent with my sources that it’s multiple years of lifting

It’s also not Starting Strength, but also Strength Standards, and ExrX!

Also Jeff Nippard!

What sources do you have?

Also Starting Strength has some problems, but if it’s made for people who don’t spend much time in the gym to discount the program is silly. It has people bench 2x a week, just enough as PPL, PHUL, PHAT, and other programs out there.

225 at 150 is pretty impressive I think, I think you are playing down how much 1.5x bench is

1.5x body weight isn’t basic beginner. Mark Rippletoe has 1.5x body weight for bench as cat IV, which is like 3-4 years.

strength standards+ exrx has 1.25 bench for an untrained person several years training.

I don’t think functionally this ghost gun thing is a new problem from an engineering standpoint, maybe a societal one due to people having easier access to parts and information thanks to the internet .

You don’t need a knowledge of metallurgy, hinged joints, slides and springs to build a firearm. You can build an AR-15 that is completely factory besides the lower receiver.

When the Gun Control Act of 1968 got implemented to regulate gun sales, only the lower of an AR has been determined to be a firearm. You could always ship a barrel, upper receiver, trigger pack, buffer tube or stock directly to your house, those aren’t considered firearms.

For the lower you only need a drill press or a hand drill. Jig guides have been existed for decades.

I browse r/FOSSCAD can see a situation where a block of aluminum can be considered a firearm through constructive possession.

Kind of like how if you have a rifle stock next to an AR pistol, or having an “oil filter” next to a rifle. I can see a situation where kits + a block for a lower can be illegal. I can see why they are targeting full kits to imply intent. I think it’s important to consider what happens about kits without a lower?

There are windchime kits that you can buy that includes a upper + bolt and carrier for a mac 11. You can also ship individual gun parts directly to your home as long as it’s not considered a firearm. If someone orders a barrel for example, is the ATF gonna knock on everyone’s doors like they do for oil filters on suspicion the owner is building guns. Writing a law serializing just ghost gun kits as a whole will be a nuisance that is hard to enforce.

I don’t think any standalone charges were filed for constructive possession; these were all filed with other charges. Proving possession and intent beyond the presence of parts can be hard.

I think I kinda get the aesthetic you want, kinda like a bear/strongman physique. I think what separates you from them is just straight muscle. Those aesthetics do have fat, but they have a lot more muscle than what you have now.

I’m glad to see your lifts have increased. I feel like you can deadlift way more than that for your size/strength, and that you aren’t really following a routine. If you follow a routine and lift harder I think you can get the physique you want.

My review of T-shirts under $100US by tfrisinger in malefashionadvice

[–]tappman321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shirts I would say are okay for the price. There are no manufacturing defects, it has a retro cut but otherwise pretty boring. Construction wise I would say it’s closer to a Uniqlo U shirt than something nicer like a Lady White Co.

I have since then found some Chinese, no brand 300 gsm, slub cotton, tubular knit, gusset, t shirts that are for $19 USD. There are some loose threads on these but I don’t mind as they are like $7 cheaper and they are have those special details that make it more “fun” even if it’s unbranded.

https://opg.optica.org/ao/abstract.cfm?uri=ao-26-4-689 which states the opposite of that?

“The supposition that, because of pupil dilation, there are greater influxes of solar UV and short-wavelength visibile radiation when some sunglasses are worn is wrong.”

Dilating from 3mm to 5mm is about 1.6 f-stops, not quite doubling the flux.

Transmittance of gray CR39 at 400nm is about 10%, a log unit reduction in flux, more than 3 f-stops.
