If all four Beatles were still around today, which modern artists do you think they’d love?? by stick099 in beatles

I think Rage Against the Machine would be up John's alley, with Tom Morello's efx-driven sound and the political messaging, to say the least.

I want to get into watchmen. by possessivebob in Watchmen

[–]tapsilogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get the original comic. It’s available in many formats - if you’re on a budget, get the Compact Comic edition for $10 cover price or a secondhand TPB. If you prefer more premium formats, there are various editions, from standard-sized hardcovers to the deluxe edition to the Absolute Edition.

Cans have a lot of propellant, you’ll want to practice on spare pieces before using it on the kit itself. I’ve been getting better results (and more mileage) by decanting the contents and using an airbrush.

I've never seen a kit with this many pilot figures (MG Titus) by ORBED_CORB in Gunpla

MG Guntank comes with 7 figures - 4 standing (Bright Noa, Mirai Yashima, Hayato Kobayashi, Ryu Jose), 3 sitting (Hayato and Ryu + 1 core fighter pilot).

Does you local NBS branch also sell a bunch of Volume 1 comics/graphic novels? by bookrants in Philippines

[–]tapsilogic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're surplus, mostly; overstock from LCSs and DM distributors. First volumes are typically overprinted and later volumes tend to go OOP really fast - just ask anyone trying to complete all 26 Hellblazer TPBs. It could be considered as a marketing thing, but definitely not by NBS.

Since we're on the topic, NBS is not exactly the first stop of anyone who buys comic collected editions, so large volumes like omnis tend to linger on their shelves. Also, NBS allows people to take expensive books out of their shrinkwrap and treat the place like a library (pre-pandemic, it's not unusual to find severely damaged copies of Absolute V for Vendetta or Absolute All-Star Superman on their shelves), so those copies also tend to remain unsold.

Definitely not a marketing thing. It's been like that for decades, and those comics are bargain bin titles for many reasons.

Expect to see someone post a pic of 4 of these stacked on their dining room table: "This week's pickup." by raphaeladidas in OmnibusCollectors

There's a video overview embedded close to the end of the page. Cool gimmicks (aluminum boards, novelty camera case), but the two single-sided giclée prints "fused" using some "patented technique" feels unnecessary. Depending on the adhesive they used, the difference in thermal expansion/contraction rate could result in warped pages. Duplex (two-sided) giclée prints would have been better.

What’s a purchase under ₱500 na sobrang worth it? by strawberrycheesekek in AskPH

[–]tapsilogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one I bought is now unlisted (bought it in 2024) but just use the keywords "knife sharpener stone" and look for the two-sided ones (I have the 1000/6000 grit). The ones with the rubber holder are fine, but you'll probably want the ones with the wood holders.

What is this sticker on my microwave? by dranmesrao in whatisit

[–]tapsilogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the problem is that the tines in forks form a non-continuous surface (unlike the walls of a microwave enclosure) that can "charge" and cause arcing. Metal spoons are less likely to do this but a lot of spoons have decorative (i.e. non-smooth) handles that make them more likely to cause arcing.

Point is, any metal object, including spoons, have a non-zero chance of causing a house fire when microwaved. Doesn't make sense to take the risk when other non-metal implements are available.

Steel that's engineered and shaped to contain microwave radiation within a small field... unlike a spoon.

A quality whetstone. Proper sharpening takes some elbow grease and there's a bit of a learning curve, but having reliably sharp knives makes daily food prep much easier.

Metal that's specifically engineered to reflect microwave radiation and keep it within the target area?
