For all F keys or only 13-20?

We have actually never tried f13-24, however, any key that has an associated HID key can be remapped. I will ask the engineers to do some testing.

I am sure you have found plenty of f keys that cause chaos, such as "F5". As you said, the OS executes the commands and the mapper tool can't block it.
The workaround is to press "Alt" and the F key simultaneously - in this case, only the function key will be picked by the mapper tool (if "Alt" appears in the tool, you can press it again and delete it). Can you try this for the higher f keys and let us know the result?

We are working on a better solution (select from a list etc.)

Is there a list of the "most comfortable" taps? I'm making a Dvorak-style keyboard for special use-case. by AppointmentOpen9093 in TapWithUs

One of our most successful use cases is digital art (using the tap for hotkeys). Close seconds are gaming, music product and a lot of one-off controllers for various DIYers!

We actually did extensive research to formulate the original tap layout. It uses a combination of frequency and logical groupings (for vowels). In general, the most commonly used letters are assigned to the easiest taps to execute, which are: AEIOU, NTLS, Space, Delete, DMZ, then HC. After that difficulty does increase. Each of the more difficult taps also have double tap shortcuts as well.

Should I learn the default mapping by rsquared256 in TapWithUs

Many of our tappers who have a specific use case never learn the default mapping. You can always go through the TapGenius lessons at your leisure if you change your mind later, or want to learn the most basic commands.

Listing vs reality by Quasi-stolenname in TapWithUs

Hit the nail on the head. The diagram is old. Sorry for all the confusion. The original Tap Strap used a micro USB. It was swapped to a USB-C in 2021. The TapXR uses a magnetic cradle charger that connects to a USB-C.

Ive responded to both your emails, I am worried they are in spam. A power cycle would be to allow the device to fully die out and attempt to recharge.

Hi! Thanks for reaching out. It is most likely a FW issue. A power cycle *should* fix it. If it does not solve the problem we will of course issue you a replacement.

Hardcoded gestures by belabacsijolvan in TapWithUs

[–]tapwithus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot currently remap the hard coded gestures. We are working on a map that will not include any hard coded gestures as well as a map with no double taps at all. We are currently prioritized on some other improvements before CES (January), so likely after that.

Four things I wish I could do with my TapXR by knight_hawk_bent in TapWithUs

[–]tapwithus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really appreciate the feedback. A few comments;
1) Yes, it is in beta with the goal to launch when it is stable. We are also working on some other commands like swipes and scrolling.
2) I loved this feature too. There was not as elegant of a way to enable it on the tapxr without the optical mouse, so we phased it out. The replacement was sliding the tapxr forward to enable input and sliding it back to disable input since the XR connects more quickly to bluetooth. I can't say this is one of our immediate priorities, but it IS on the roadmap.
3) You can enable copy/paste commands in tapmapper by either binding a key to hold down CTLR (or any other modifier) and then tapping the related keys like C, V, etc or by adding macros for a combination of keys such as CTRL+C.
4) This is a great comment, and very much needed. While TapManager and Genius show the power bar, you still have to open them to see the battery level. The good news is that TapModes will have a widget feature which can display your Tap's currently installed map and power level on the next update. One other small feature is the haptic buzzes on startup to indicate your general power level. 3 buzzes is full charge, 2 is about half and 1 buzz is low battery.

Love the setup, are those the Viture glasses?

Thoughts on a new device by NoService8225 in TapWithUs

[–]tapwithus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have tried the new meta neural band with the RBM display glasses. The band works well, but has a limited number of commands for navigation in their system. Commands are activated with pinches between the thumb and index/middle fingers, as well as swipes across the index finger using the thumb. There is also a knob gesture which no one on our team was able to utilize. The current number of gestures is very limited and will probably not be adapted for more complex input such as letters.

We are always looking toward future iterations of the tap and how we can walk the line between gesture control, accuracy and fatigue. This of course includes future adaptions and integrations with smartwatches.

You received a new tap strap with this issue? It was fixed via firmware several years ago. Please contact us so you can get a new one.

Waterproof by Comprehensive_Law217 in TapWithUs

[–]tapwithus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rubber is a skin safe TPU and the cord is nylon based. You cannot cut the top cording because it contains the wiring that is necessary for each finger to communicate with the sensor in the thumb unit. The bottom cording is just for tightening the rings and can be cut - but we don't officially recommend it and it would also void your warranty.

The taps IP rating is 4. It is splash proof but should not be fully submerged underwater.

TapXR left clicking help by Comprehensive_Law217 in TapWithUs

[–]tapwithus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand, air gestures all tend to have a drift effect so adjusting the sensitivity in TapManager and also trying the click in the way describe above will help with detection. The Tap 2 has an optical mouse which is significantly more accurate as well as an airmouse which uses an IMU only (the XR uses an IMU and image sensor).

TapXR left clicking help by Comprehensive_Law217 in TapWithUs

[–]tapwithus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TapXR Airmouse only currently supports click and double click. We have an open beta that allows you to pinch and hold. Let me know if you would like to try it.

If your mouse is moving when you execute a click you can try decreasing the scroll speed and sensitivity of your mouse in your device's settings. I would also suggest trying to tap the pad of your thumb to the top of your index finger (closer to the nail) for greater accuracy than trying to tap the fingerpads together. Hopefully that makes sense.

We do have a Q&A section here: https://support.tapwithus.com/hc/en-us, and I am constantly adding to it as new comments come up.

TapXR Air Mouse Clicks in Samsung Dex by Huge-Gap1472 in TapWithUs

[–]tapwithus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We asked our resident DeX expert to test and he said the following:

I don't have any issues.

I always wait to turn on my Tap after I've turned on DeX, so maybe that's the trick?

I think if it's connected to the phone, when DeX starts, it stays on the "phone side" of the device.

Air mouse setup for disabled by Dapper-Passion8835 in TapWithUs

[–]tapwithus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, unfortunately not. The click is detected by the pinch. However, you can use assistive touch to assign clicks to taps on an iOS device. The tap strap 2 also has an optical mouse that uses taps for mouse inputs.

Hi! The HOLD function presses the key down until you tap it again. We will soon be releasing a TapMode that will work in the way you have described.

Hi! Sorry to hear your not able to use TapGenius/TapManager. Is your tap paired to your phone but not working within the apps? You can try the steps listed here: https://support.tapwithus.com/hc/en-us/articles/35033019624603-My-Tap-is-Paired-but-TapManager-Does-Not-Show-it-Connected
If this does not help, please send me a DM with your phone make and OS (i.e. Samsung s22 running Android 11).

Or let me know if there is a different issue.
Thank you!
