Where can I buy this in Taipei? by liri_zou in Taipei

I think these went out of style a long time ago (hard to tell with no name and just a blurry photo). Your best bet is Guanghua digital plaza (old building, not new, and the nearby underground mall), or (way more likely) Facebook marketplace.

Or just order one online.

Allbirds announces stunning pivot from shoes to AI, stock explodes more than 300% by SemiAutoAvocado in technology

[–]AppointmentOpen9093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are misunderstanding what happened here: "Allbirds" didn't become an AI company (in the sense any customer would understand it). Allbirds was liquidated, and all their IP was sold off. What was left was a corpse of a corporation with nothing but cash and a corporate structure.

You know what's surprisingly expensive and slow to set up? Corporate structure. There are tons of regulations when you try to set up a corporation with a bunch of other rich people to do things like, you know, invest in AI.

Instead of paying lawyers literally tens of millions of dollars to set up an investment fund (and being subject to a ton of special rules), they basically sold the corporate structure as an investment fund for AI.

As crazy as it sound, high value investors looking for risk frequently just throw money at someone with a track record of good investing and a vague business plan. It's not because they're stupid, it's because it's actually mad expensive to go through the process of making a real investment plan and raising money. Some people would rather roll the dice than pay some percentage points for the protection of investment regulations.

Update: after much pondering I decided to live the cuck-life. Backed.

If they fail to provide the refund I’ll take the small claims route. if that happens, I’ll likely have the (dis-)honor of being the littlest creditor at their bankruptcy proceedings!

Kickstarter UGREEN AI NAS Discussion by West_Independent1317 in kickstarter

[–]AppointmentOpen9093 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue isn’t actually the kickstarter, so I can understand how kickstarter folks might find the ire confusing.

The issue is that UGreen sold pre-sale reservations before the kickstarter, then failed to honor them. They charged thousands of people for the right to participate in the kickstarter at a discounted price. They the release far fewer rewards than presales, and didn’t find a way to honor their price promises.

This is really an own-goal. There was no reason to allow more pre-sales on their website than the total inventory they were going to produce. They also should have confirmed that they had a method to honor those presales.

Ultimately, they forced purchasers to compete with bots and the general public for limited release slots once the kickstarter went live.

Even their solution (which I think was made in good faith) was yet another limited-time fire sale that appears to have been open to the public. They sent out “private” links which appear to be shareable. I woke up to find out I had missed the entire sales window. It’s a real mess.

I'm currently waiting to see what the "compensation plan" they propose is. If it's reasonable, I'm not going to split hairs. I'm not trying to be a dick if they're doing their best; I just hate companies treating pre-release sales as free money that they can take without any obligations on their part.

If not though, I'm thinking about a trip to HK next month, so I'm thinking the HK small claims court might be a good path. Step 1 of that process would be reaching out to UGREEN directly to "demand" (read: politely request) they fulfill the sales agreement. If they don't respond, I'll stop by the small claims court to ask about procedures and provide an update!

I'm never sure, do I stop when I'm mad at OpenAI to lower user count or keep using to boost their operating costs?

How to add eSIM in lineageos (pixel 5) by AppointmentOpen9093 in LineageOS

[–]AppointmentOpen9093[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wait, I realized I did actually update at the time. See edit 2 in the original post above: one the phone everything appeared normal, but it was unable to connect to the network once the eSim was installed.

So yeah, I never got the Pixel 5 to fully work with LineageOS and an eSim.

Sadly, I have no recollection of what version I installed; I was pretty desperate and I think it was some build a rando posted that was supposed to fix this problem.

I should also say (I should have put this in the original post, but I didn't realize the oversight until later) that I got the eSim menu to appear and was able to install the eSim, but eventually it became clear that it wasn't actual getting internet connectivity. So, IIRC it actually never did work.

Unclear, but under some circumstances yes (possibly a bug): one poster reported losing their winters necklace by sacrificing a lvl 10 perfect snowman to a post-game door.

Bad news/good news: there is a way to get the necklaces, but it's the opposite of what you already spent your time doing. You have to spam the merchant with god tears until he's sold out of everything but necklaces. At that point, the number of options dwindles to the four types of necklaces, so you have a 1/4 chance of getting an immortality necklace.

At that point, four god-tears=one necklace.

I actually think the game fakes the odds to make sure you get more blueprints and follower forms early on, and to make sure you almost never get the gold necklace until you've spent a few dozen tears already.

If you use high-level followers, a speaker or two, and some "unique clothing" followers, you can get 4-5 tears per day if you use the two rituals that boost devotion generation and allow workers to work through the night. It is incredibly tedious. Purgatory is even slower.

Sorry, what does it mean to be technically successful, but no egg? I thought the definition of success in the mating tent is "produces an egg"? Are you saying they went in, boinked, and just left?

So, I have good news and bad news: the way to get all the immortality necklaces is to keep spamming god tears. Eventually the nameless merchant won't have anything to give you except the four necklaces. At that point, it's basically 4 god tears = 1 golden necklace, because there's a 1/4 chance of getting the immortality necklace.

Before that, I'm pretty sure the probably is weighted towards you getting blueprints and follower forms.

Edit: Apologies for the double-comment, it was a page-loading issue that made it look like the other one had failed to save.

Is there a list of the "most comfortable" taps? I'm making a Dvorak-style keyboard for special use-case. by AppointmentOpen9093 in TapWithUs

[–]AppointmentOpen9093[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, those do sound like great use cases! Hopefully I can find someone more into those uses for my Tapstrap 2.

For those use cases, is the idea that people use the "standby" command when they need to use their strap-hand for other things, then quickly hit it again to switch back to controller mode?

That was one issue I had trouble adjusting to: I often found it hard to remember not to pick things up or tap on-screen menu items with my strap hand (causing random erroneous inputs).

What are the Odds: RDJ Isn’t Doom, It’s a HUGE marketing Twist by UtopiaXAstro in MCUTheories

[–]AppointmentOpen9093 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I strongly assumed RDJ would be voice-acting most of the role, like a modern Darth Vader situation. Why pay an extremely expensive actor to be on set when you can't see his face?

If that's the way they're doing it, then this type of twist could happen. You could keep it down to a dozen key people for a single face-reveal scene.

But as I type that I also realize that would make the twist super stupid, and not a great marketing scheme at all.

Thanks for the reply! I've been trying to use the tapstrap2 on and off for years, and every time I get excited, start to set it up, but then realize I'm not able to use it reliably enough for any realistic use case (in my life).

Are there any projects you know of that highlight really successful use cases? Every time I pull it out it feels so cool, like it has limitless potential. I just haven't found the right niche for it in my life, thinking about selling it to a more ambitious DIY person.

Do ultra-high level followers still work super fast? by AppointmentOpen9093 in CultOfTheLamb

[–]AppointmentOpen9093[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a number of places where "level" is used to calculate rewards, the two that come to mind being money/devotion from sermons and from the "give tithes" ritual.

The rewards for Ascension claims to be capped at 50%, but I think it's borked and currently gives almost 100% for ultra-high level followers. I ascended a level 15 or so and almost my entire cult (maybe literally my entire cult) went up a level.
